[4] I m so glad you liked the plans, and hope to see lots of brag posts very soon from you! Many of you asked for details on the finish I used to for the bedside charging table. I was really going for an aged wood look, with a gray-brown stain - you know, so very Restoration Hardware inspired. I love how the finish I used did just that: took brand spanking new boards and turned them rustic and vintage looking! The aged finish also helps hide how smart this bedside charging table is! You can follow along with my step by step tutorial to achieve similar results on your own furniture. Having experienced great results with past projects, I once again teamed up with my friends at Minwax [5] to bring you this tutorial. Shopping List: Foam brush Natural bristle brush Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner (Oil based) [6] Minwax Wood Finish in Weathered Oak and Special Walnut [7] Minwax Paste Finishing Wax [8] Medium and Fine Grit Sand Paper Step 1: Project Preparation Page 3 of 17
I started with a project just built using brand spanking new pine boards. I sanded the project starting with medium grit sandpaper, working in the direction of the wood grain. Satisfied with the sanding, I vacuumed all sanding dust up from both the project and workstation, and then quickly wiped the project down with a slightly damp cloth just to make sure I got everything. Then I applied Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner [6]with a foam brush to the project. I let the wood conditioner soak in for about 15 minutes before beginning to stain. Step 2 Instructions: Stain Application My friend Hillary [9]stained this amazing farmhouse table using Page 5 of 17
Minwax Wood Finish [7] Weathered Oak, And I ve been dying to try it out myself, so I was super excited to pick up a can. Page 6 of 17

Just like any other Minwax Wood Finish [7], I mixed the stain well before application. And then I just began applying the stain, with a natural bristle brush, working in the direction of the wood grain. Page 8 of 17
I then let it soak in for about 15 minutes. Page 9 of 17
And then began wiping excess stain off the project. Page 10 of 17

Man, this color is really lovely! But it was a little on the modern side for my country Alaska home, and wasn't quite right for my space. I need to both darken and warm up the stain color. One of the greatest things I've learned about staining is you have so much control of your finished project. After testing an area, I added a layer of Minwax Wood Finish [7] in Special Walnut over top of the Weathered Oak. Page 12 of 17
Having the Weathered Oak under the Special Walnut brought a gray tone to the stain, exactly what I was looking for!!! Happy with my stain color, it s time to finish the project! Step 3 Instructions: Page 13 of 17
I love Minwax Paste Finishing Wax [8] because it protects but you can barely tell it s there! It s also super easy to apply. Just dig in and start rubbing it on! Page 14 of 17
