Instructions The following important safeguards are recommended by most portable appliance manufacturers. IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS To reduce the risk of personal injury or property damage, when using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following: 1. Read all instructions before using the popcorn popper. 2. A popper that is plugged into an outlet should not be left unattended. 3. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs. 4. To protect against fire, electric shock, and injury to persons do not immerse the popper kettle, cords, or plugs in water or other liquids. 5. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. 6. Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn all switches to off before removing plug from wall outlet. 7. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance. 8. This popper will not shut off automatically. To avoid overheating, always add oil and popping corn to popper before operating. 9. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or in the event the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return the appliance to the Presto Factory Service Department for examination, repair, or electrical or mechanical adjustment. 10. The use of accessory attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries. 11. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces. 12. Do not use outdoors. 13. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven. 1

14. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil. 15. Do not use appliance for other than intended use. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS This product is for household use Only. Important Cord Information A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Extension cords may be used if care is properly exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used, it should be a grounding type 3-wire cord with a marked electrical rating at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over. Before First Use 1. Remove all outer packaging surrounding the popper. 2. Position popper on a table, open the cabinet door, and carefully remove the packaging inside the cabinet. Care should be used when removing the inside fillers to avoid damaging the popper components. 3. Become familiar with the various parts of the popper (Fig. A1 and A2) and read and follow the instructions carefully. 4. Prior to making your first batch of popcorn, clean the components as described in the Care and Cleaning section on page 4. How To Use 1. Open the cabinet door and insert the popper kettle so the plug is toward the back of the cabinet. Tilt the kettle slightly so the stirring rod is pointed toward you Stirring rod gear and the kettle knob is on your right. Position the pivots on the kettle in the support bracket hooks (Fig. B). Stirring rod note: If the kettle does not fit between the support brackets, the brackets may need to be adjusted Pivot slightly. To adjust, carefully push the brackets inward or outward until the kettle fits between them. Then, position the pivots on the kettle in the hooks. Cover tab When the kettle is positioned correctly on the bracket hooks, the stir rod gear will automatically engage Fig. A2 with the drive gear (Fig. C). If the stir rod gear is not fully engaged with the drive gear, the stir rod will not rotate. 2. Plug the kettle into the outlet in the ceiling of the popping chamber located on the right hand side of the cabinet towards the front (Fig. C). Do not plug popper kettle directly into a wall outlet. 3. Place the popcorn tray in the bottom of the popping chamber. 4. Plug the unit into a 120 volt wall outlet and turn the cabinet light on by pressing the symbol on the LIGHT button (Fig. A1). 5. Lift the tab on the kettle cover and hold the cover open. Using the measuring cup and measuring spoon provided, pour a level 1/3 cup popping corn and 1 tablespoon popping oil into the kettle. 6. Close the kettle cover and the door on the popper cabinet. Important: If the kettle cover or cabinet door are not closed, hot kernels and oil may be ejected from the popper during popping causing possible injury. 7. Press the symbol on the POP button to turn the unit on (Fig. A1). When using the popper for the first time, a slight odor may be noticeable as manufacturing residue evaporates. This is normal during initial use. 8. Popping will take approximately 5 minutes for the first batch. When making successive batches, popping may be completed in approximately 3 minutes as the unit is already heated up. Important: Never leave popper unattended while in use. When popping slows to approximately 2 to 3 seconds between pops, popping is done. Turn unit off by pressing the 0 symbol on the POP button, then using a hot pad, grasp the black knob on the popper kettle and tilt the kettle down to empty any remaining popcorn. Popper Kettle Parts Fig. B Support bracket hooks Fig. C Stirring rod gear Pivot Kettle knob Kettle plug Drive gear Caution: Occasionally a hot unpopped kernel may be thrown from the popper kettle as you are emptying it. To avoid contact with hot kernels, keep face away from door opening when emptying kettle. 9. Popcorn is ready to serve. Season as desired. 10. Before making additional batches, carefully remove any popped corn that may have gotten trapped in the kettle stirring arm during popping. Then repeat steps 3 through 9. 11. When popping is complete, unplug unit from wall outlet and then unplug popper kettle from popper cabinet. Allow to cool completely before removing kettle and before cleaning. 3

Care and Cleaning The popper should be cleaned before initial use and after each subsequent use. Always unplug both popper kettle and unit from outlets and allow to cool completely before cleaning. Cleaning the Popper Kettle: 1. Remove popper kettle from unit by tilting the kettle down so the stirring rod is toward you and lift up on the kettle to disengage the pivots from the support bracket hooks. Slide the kettle out. 2. Use a hot, soapy cloth to wash the inside and outside of the kettle. Rinse with a clean cloth and dry thoroughly. Never immerse the kettle in water or other liquid or wash in a dishwasher. If necessary, clean the kettle with a nylon mesh pad or a non-abrasive powder cleanser, such as Bon ami* polishing cleanser or Cameo* copper, brass & porcelain cleaner to remove greasy residue. Avoid contacting the warning label. Do not use steel wool or cleaners with chlorine bleach. Cleaning the Popper Cabinet: Wipe the interior and exterior of the popper cabinet with a hot, soapy cloth. Rinse with a clean cloth and dry thoroughly. Do not use steel wool or abrasive cleaners on the popper cabinet. Note: The cabinet door removes for easy cleaning. Open the door and lift it straight up off the hinges. Wash the door in hot, soapy water; do not wash in the dishwasher. Reattach door to cabinet by aligning the pins with the hinge openings and push the door down. Cleaning the Measuring Spoon, Measuring Cup, and Popcorn Tray: Wash these parts in the dishwasher (top rack) or in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Note: If the cabinet light bulb ever needs replacing, use a standard 10 watt, 120 volt, 60 Hertz bulb (type E12). Use of a higher watt bulb could cause a fire. Helpful Hints Always use fresh popcorn. Fresh popcorn pops into larger kernels and with more consistency than older dried out corn. To maintain moisture content and preserve freshness, store popcorn in an air-tight container. If your popcorn does not pop well, it may be too dry. Try adding a little bit of water to the popping corn. Add 1 tablespoon per quart of popcorn. Then place the corn in an airtight container and shake at frequent intervals until the popcorn has absorbed the water. Wait for 3 or 4 days and then try popping the corn. Because of its fine texture, popcorn salt works best. It is available at most grocery stores. Table salt works well too, however. You may use most any kind of vegetable oil for popping (corn, soybean, peanut, canola, light olive oil). Butter, margarine, shortening, lard, and extra-virgin olive oil should not be used, as they burn easily. To maintain the best appearance of your theater popper, clean the popper after each use as described above. *Bon ami polishing cleanser is a registered trademark of Faultless Starch/Bon Ami Co.
