CERTIFIED BY: p Every home comes standard with a 1.5 kv photovoltaic solar system to offset energy consumption, and all appliances, devices, and electrical fixtures are energy-efficient models. Northern California is well known for many things, including national forests, wine country, and the many acres of farm land that grow the tasty foods we eat everyday. The New Home Company has developed a new community where homeowners can literally live right by the farm for ultra-fresh produce and fruits, and other rural activities, thanks to the seven-acre urban farm built within the community. The Cannery also follows the sustainability model of its home city of Davis, Calif. through reducing the use of cars, allowing for renewable energy production, boosting energy efficiency, and adding to a healthy surrounding environment full of parks and pathways for residents to enjoy. This revolutionary community design has earned The New Home Company the Gold Award for Master Planned Community of the Year at The Nationals. We are extremely proud of receiving the nomination for Master Planned Community of the Year for The Cannery, California s first farm-to-table new home community, stated Megan Eltringham, director of marketing for The New Home Company. The Cannery is unlike any other community in the western United States, and it has truly been a rewarding experience to contribute to such an innovative concept. While this nomination is important to The New Home Company, we share this nomination with all of our development partners for helping us make The Cannery a place that so many will be proud to call home. The Cannery derives its name from the very land it resides on because of the area s history. The New Home Company chose to employ some land recycling by building on the site of the old Hunt-Wesson tomato cannery. The community s location is ideally central and is within minutes of downtown and UC Davis. The Cannery also serves as the first farm-to-table mixed new home community in California, and provides the area with a 7.4-acre urban farm capable of proving the sustainable farming model. The urban farm will also serve as an agricultural classroom for beginning farmers who desire to learn the most modern techniques in growing food. The community s residence in Davis is a match made in heaven since the northern California town is famous for being the intellectual center of the agricultural industry in California, having a hand in everything from wineries to organically grown produce. According to Eltringham, The Cannery features a land plan that is the first of this scale in Davis in more than 20 years. In addition to residences, we have developed numerous community amenities, including retail shops, a recreational center, The Cannery Amphitheatre for musical performances and special events, The Farm House Welcome Center and the Urban Farm. Though The New Home Company developed and built the Cannery, the master planning includes other major builders in the mix to give the community variety and different aesthetics. The other builders with residential properties in the Cannery include Shea Homes and CalAtlantic Homes (formely Standard Pacific Homes), each with their own styles to bring to the table. It should also be noted that the existing 18 floor plans from all three builders have received Liveable Design Seals of Approval for green building practices and making life easier for homeowners, no matter their generation. The community will have over 547 homes available for many budgets, styles, and functions, and come in six floor plan styles: Gala (The University Flats coming in 2016/2017), Heirloom (The Townhomes by The New Home Company), Beech (The Court Homes by the new CalAtlantic Homes coming in 2016), Persimmon (The Bungalows by Shea Homes), Tilton (The Cottages by Shea Homes), and Sage (The Park Homes by The New Home Company).
