OPERATION AND INSTALLATION MANUAL Manufactured & Serviced By: SunPumps, Inc. 325. Main St. Safford, AZ 85546 /M* gf& (928) 348-9652 Made in America

1.0 Introduction Thank you for selecting a SunPumps SP series SunSwitch, a solar insolation meter and relay system. The SR series solar insolation relay controller with the accompanying sensor panel is a great way to automatically turn on or off devices with sunlight. This insolation relay is designed to allow switching of small loads at userselectable predetermined sunlight intensity. Warning Never supply more than the rated current/ voltage of the relay. SP-SSR1 is rated for: 1 Amp at 30 VDC,.2 Amps at 60 VDC,,5 Amps at 120 VAC. SP-SSR2 is rated for: 4 Amps at 30 VDC,.2 Amps at 60 VDC, 4 Amps at 120 VAC. Although these SR series SunSwitch systems are easy to install, please read this manual to become familiar with the switch features, functions, connection points and various configurations. For future reference, keep this manual and other relevant product information in a safe place. PRECAUTIONS Safety First - Always understand what you are doing when working with any form of electricity. Guessing at something is not worth the potential of product damage and/or severe personal injury. Shut down all power when working on the system. Do not attempt to feed live wires into the unit. Product damage and/or personal injury may result. Do not exceed the voltage/current rating of the switch. Do not splash water on the unit when the cover is open. 2.0 Product Overview SunPumps SP-SSR controller is a relay switch and a sun insolation meter. Sun insolation is the amount of the sun's radiation at a specific point in time. It can be thought of as the intensity of sunlight. With this meter, the intensity of the sun is measured in percentage of full sunlight with 100% being 1000 W/m2. (Watts per square meter) When properly installed and configured, the unique features incorporated into this unit will automatically activate a relay based on a pre-selected percentage of sunlight. 2.1 Product Features 1. Easy to read LED array. 2. Simple operation. 3. Configurable activation set point between 15% and 50% in 5% increments. 4. Relay "ON" indicator. 5. SPDT relay with NC, NO, and COM connections available. 6. Rising clamp screw terminal blocks - no fork terminals required. 7. Weather resistant enclosure with a hinged door.

4.0 Troubleshooting Sun Pumps, Inc. is dedicated to its customers and will gladly help you trouble shoot any problems with your system. However, especially during the busy summer pumping season, we may not be able to help you right away. Using this trouble shooting guide as your first resource when your system is not working properly can save you valuable time in getting your system fully functional. If at any time however, you are not comfortable performing any of these tasks, or do not fully understand the system, it is better to call than to guess. Before calling please go through the section below labeled "Before Calling Sun Pumps" and complete the steps there. UNIT DOES NOT TURN ON 1. In very low light conditions there will be no indication that the unit is receiving power. This is because the unit uses the power coming in from the solar sensor to power itself. If there is not ample light available, you should check again preferably in the middle of the day with full sunlight available. If at that time there are no LEDs in the controller on, check the voltage of the solar sensor. If it is between 4 and 6 volts call Sun Pumps for further assistance. 2. Disconnect the solar sensor and check the open circuit voltage (Voc) on the solar panel. Compare it to the rated open circuit voltage listed on the back of the panel. If it is not at the rated voltage + - 10%, then call Sun Pumps for further assistance. 3. Now check the short circuit current (Isc). Compare it to the rated short circuit current listed on the back of the panel. If the reading is less than the rating by more than. 1 amps, call Sun Pumps for further assistance. (Note: Make sure you have full sunlight when you run this test.) 4. If the panel seems to be good then there may be a problem in the insolation relay unit. Call Sun Pumps for further assistance. UNIT MEASURES SUNLIGHT BUT RELAY DOES NOT ACTIVATE 1. Verify that one of the switches on the dip switch is in the "ON" position. 2. Look at the LED solar insolation indicators at the top of the controller to see how much sunlight is available. Now check to see which dip switch is on. For the relay to activate, the dip switch setting must be set at or lower than the available sunlight. If it is not then you can use a lower setting and the relay should activate. If this does not work then call SunPumps for further assistance. 3. If the "Relay On" LED lights up and the relay does not activate, call SunPumps for further assistance.

BEFORE CALLING SUNPUMPS If at all possible when calling Sun Pumps for technical support there are a few things which will help to speed up the process and help us determine the cause of and solution to the system failure. The best way to get help is to call while you are physically at the location of your pump, have good sunlight, and have a multimeter and a screwdriver with you. Furthermore, please fill out the form below before calling. This information will provide us with most of the preliminary information we need to help you. If you cannot physically be at the site, filling out the worksheet is a must.
