DX100 Field Maintenance Guide This guide has been created t help yu maintain yur DX100 printer s peak perfrmance and quality. It is imprtant t utilize these maintenance prcedure based n yur envirnmental usage f the printer. The frequency f sme f these maintenance items may need t be perfrmed mre ften based n these cnditins. 1

DX100 Field Maintenance Guide Glssary f Tasks Dusting ff the paper rll When a new rll f paper is pened. It is imprtant t utilize a lint free clth t wipe the edges f the paper ff prir t inserting the paper spindle flanges. Emptying waste paper bx Ding s will help t minimize the amunt f paper dust being ingested int vital printer sectins. It is imprtant t empty the waste paper bx when the paper is changed. If the paper slugs build up in the bx they can be ingested by the printer and cause damage t the cutter, fans, and als cause paper jams. Clean the utside f the printer Every start f the day the printer s exterir shuld be wiped dwn with a damp clth. Being certain the area where the prints exit the printer kept clean f debris. Clean the rll unit Daily, it is imprtant t clean the rll unit. Utilizing a lint free clth. First, by wiping ut the rll units. Then lift the rear plate and wipe ut frm behind this plate t remve any dust r lint. Next, lift the frnt plate t clean behind this unit. It is als imprtant t wipe acrss the felt pads t help lift sme f the paper dust that may have accumulated in these pads It is imprtant nt t vacuum this sectin. The suctin frm the vacuum can disldge the small white rllers Cleaning ink/paper dust frm upper platen Daily, the upper platen shuld be checked fr excessive ink and paper dust. T clean this sectin it is recmmended t use a bemct mistened with water and lightly dab the absrbent material where the paper dust has accumulated. Next, uses a new bemct mistened with water and wipe the plastic sectins f the upper platen. By keeping this sectin clean f debris and ink build up will prevent ink frm being transferred t the prints. 2

Clean ink frm upper paper guide rllers Daily inspectin: If the upper platen is nt prperly maintained, ink may be transferred t the rllers f the paper guides. Utilize a bemct mistened with water t clean these rllers. It is extremely imprtant nt t push dwn n these rllers, pushing t hard can disldge them frm the guides. Vacuum Anti-cndensing fans Bi-Weekly: These fans shuld be inspected weekly fr any dust r debris build up vacuuming them bi-weekly t keep the dust and debris frm cllecting in and arund these fans Vacuum air filters Mnthly vacuum the air filter fr the pwer supply and cling fans. Keeping these filters clear f dust and debris will imprve the efficiency f keeping the vital bards cl and perating. Cleaning the feed rllers (rll unit) Mnthly, at the end f a wrk day, it is recmmended that the rubber feed rllers be cleaned with a damp bemct. By ding this at the end f the day will allw the rllers t dry prperly. Trubleshting: Ink lines n prints When lines appear n the frnt and back f prints it is imprtant t check and clean the upper platen and upper paper guides White edge n prints 3

When a small white edge appears n the prints, this may be a result f the paper meandering while bee fed thrugh the printer W-1108: Paper Size Errr Check that the paper is tight n the spindle by pressing the black and grey flanges tgether s that they tight against the edges f paper Check the paper guides in the rll unit t be sure the frnt and rear paper guides are set and lcked int psitin fr the paper size laded. If yu encunter with a W-1108 errr this may be caused by the paper flange nt being tight against the edge f the paper. Remve the paper frm the rll unit and press the grey and black flanges tightly against the paper and relad the paper verify bth the frnt and rear paper guides are set crrectly. If the errr persists please cntact the help desk. W-1102: Paper Jam (Rear Cver/ Tp Cver) W-1102 indicates that a paper jam has ccurred. After remving the rll paper verify bth the frnt and rear paper guides are set t the crrect paper width. Inspect the rll unit fr any debris such as paper slugs, trn pieces f paper, excessive dirty rllers. Inspect the inlet rller by fllwing these steps E-2101: Tube Maintenance Errr The E-2101 message will be displayed when the ink tubes are clse t being t their service life. It is recmmended t cntact the help desk fr further instructin. It is als imprtant t understand yur printer s warranty. E-9901: Fatal Errr A fatal errr ccurs when there is a mechanical malfunctin. It is imprtant t cntact the help desk fr further assistance n a ptential remedy fr the specific errr cde. Service call errr 1102 This errr will be assciated with an E=9901 indicating the ink tubes will need t be serviced, at this pint the printer will need t be serviced. Yu must cntact the help desk fr further instructins. 4

Dusting ff the Paper Rll Paper dust can accumulate n the ends f the rll paper during manufacturing. When the paper is remved frm the packaging. It is imprtant t wipe ff bth ends f the rll prir t placing it n the paper spindle. Imprtant: These step shuld be fllwed fr every paper change. 1. With a lint free clth set the paper n end as shwn and wipe arund the tp f the rll t remve any dust. 2. Carefully turn the rll ver and dust ff the ther end. 5

Empty the Wastepaper Bx It is extremely imprtant t empty the wastepaper bx after every rll f paper. By having the paper slugs cllect in the bx can result in the slugs being intrduced back int the printer causing mechanical failures and paper jamming. 1. Remve the wastepaper bx then discard the paper slug in the trash. 2. Re-install the wastepaper bx 6

Cleaning utside surfaces f the DX100 T keep yur printer lking its best. It recmmended t clean the utside f the printer t cntrl the amunt f dust and debris that can cllect n its surface. 1. With a clth mistened with water wipe the frnt and sides f the printer. Be sure t wipe slightly inside the print exit sectin. 2. Wipe the rear and sides f the printer. 7

Cleaning the Rll Unit The rll unit is a vital part f the DX100 s paper transprt sectin. It is imprtant t maintain this sectins cleanliness by fllw the steps belw. Imprtant: D nt vacuum near the white rllers f the rll unit ding s may disldge the small white rllers. 1. Remve the wastepaper bx 2. Release the blue lck lever t pen the rll unit. 8

Cleaning the Rll Unit 3. Utilizing a list free clth r a bemct. Gently wipe the inside f the rll unit t remve any dirt r debris. 9

Cleaning the Rll Unit 4. Lift up the rear plate by placing yur finger in the teardrp hle and lifting upwards. 5. Gently wipe this area in an up and dwn manner t dust and clear the area f any debris. Nte: Be careful nt t disldge any white rllers 10

Cleaning the Rll Unit 6. Lift up n the frnt plate, by placing yur finger in the hle and lifting upwards 7. Gently wipe this area f any dust r debris. Brush lightly acrss the felt pads t remve excess paper dust. Nte: When yu have cmpleted the cleaning f the rll unit. It is recmmended t inspect the unit thrughly fr any missed debris, such as paper slugs, trn paper, r any lse r disldged rllers. 11

Cleaning ink/paper dust frm Upper Platen Ink may build up n sme area f the printer. It is best t inspect these areas and clean them as necessary. A daily inspectin f this area will ensure superir image quality. 1. Remve the tp cver t expse the upper platen. 2. With the cver remved. Inspect the upper platen are fr excessive ink. 12

Cleaning ink/paper dust frm Upper Platen Imprtant: D nt smear ink arund this area, be very careful nt t use dwnward frce when dabbing the absrbent material. The absrbent is the clth like material. 3. Utilizing a lightly mistened bemct, if there is any debris n the absrbent material wipe/dab it gently twards the frnt f the printer t remve it. 4. Utilizing a lightly mistened bemct, Wipe any residual ink frm the hard plastic platen. Nte: the image t the right is a zmed prtin f the plastic platen t be cleaned. Be sure t clean the entire area f the platen. 13

Cleaning ink frm upper paper guide rllers These rllers can accumulate ink transfered frm the upper platen and cause lines n the prints. It is recmmended t inspect these rllers daily t ensure high image quality. 1. Remve the tp cver t expse the printing sectin. 2. Inspect the gray rllers fr any ink and clean them as needed. 14

Cleaning ink frm upper paper guide rllers 3. Open the rear cver Nte: T better clean these rllers it is best t push dwn n the paper guides t raise the rllers frm the main feed rller. 4. Behind the rear cver and abve the rubber feed rllers. Gently place yur hand t feel fr a cmb r segmented fins. 15

Cleaning ink frm upper paper guide rllers Here is a guide remved t shw the fins r cmbs. 5. While hlding the guide dwn the rllers will raise up. 16

Cleaning ink frm upper paper guide rllers Imprtant: when cleaning these rllers d nt push dwn. The rllers can becme disldged. 6. Using a bemct mistened with water gently, very gently wipe acrss the rllers at an angle t rtate them while yu are cleaning them. 7. Repeat prir steps fr each f the fur guides rller sets. 17

Cleaning Anti-Cndensing fans The anti-cndensing fans are imprtant t keep clear f debris. This will keep the heater sectin f printer running at nrmal temperatures and prevent sme fan failures. 1. Turn ff the pwer t the printer. The anti-cndensing fans are lcate n the left and right side f the printer. 2. Vacuum these luvers, if there is any residual debris wipe it away with a damp bemct t keep the area clean. 18

Cleaning Air Filters It is imprtant t keep the tw air filter f the DX100 clean and clear. This will ensure prper cling f the internal circuit bards. 1. Turn the pwer ff then while facing the frnt f the printer n the left side f the metal frame cver yu will see the tw air filter luvers. 2. Vacuum these tw luvers t ensure the dust and debris has been cleared. 19

Cleaning the feed rllers (Rll Unit) The rll unit is a vital part f the DX100 s paper transprt sectin. It is imprtant t maintain this sectin cleanliness by fllw the steps belw. 1. Remve the wastepaper bx 2. Release the blue lck lever t pen the rll unit. 20

Cleaning the feed rllers (Rll Unit) 3. Mve the rear paper guide t expse the gray sft rller behind it. Then with a bemct mistened with water hld it n each rller while rtating the shaft by hand. 4. Place the rear paper guide back t the crrect psitin. 21

Using a bemct mistened with water. Place the bemct n each gray rller utlined while turning the gray knb backwards and frwards t ensure 22

Cleaning the feed rllers (Rear Cver) Paper dust can accumulate alng with ther debris t sil these rllers. T ensure prper paper transprt it is imprtant t clean these rllers. 1. Frm the rear f the printer pen the rear cver by squeezing the blue release levers. 2. Using a bemct mistened with water place the bemct n the sft rubber rllers and rtate the shaft by hand. Then clse the rear cver. 24
