Meeting your requirements - for a truly efficient use of solar energy Increased requirements for energy efficiency, individual comfort and reliability in solar systems require an innovative installation concept. The Danfoss solar solutions secure safety in design, which is crucial for optimization of energy efficiency and costs. A correct system design will always enable the highest net value. The concept of the Danfoss solar solutions is independent of the auxiliary energy source. It is flexible and can be applied together with any energy source available for any building. The solutions, which Danfoss provides, shall serve as inspiration for the user, who acknowledges the advantages of prefabricated building modules in installation work. The prefabricated building modules - or units - secure performance, good quality and ease in installation. All in all the Danfoss solar solutions will benefit both design and installation, which will lead to high end-user satisfaction. Danfoss solar solutions - for apartments and commercial buildings Danfoss is focused on system-oriented development. This means that we are always looking to develop and explore the possibilities inherent in developing fully-integrated heating systems. Danfoss offers main building modules for numerous solutions: Solar charging modules for heating: SLM-units Instantaneous domestic hot water (DHW) modules: FWMunits Charging domestic hot water (DHW) modules: F-units Solar charging modules for heating and swimming pool: SLM-SWP-units Flat stations for apartments Instantaneous water heaters for apartments In many cases solar supported heating is the most optimal solution in connection with heat sources like biomass, district heating, heat pumps or gas. Application principle

Central boiler solar supported system with flat stations for HE and DHW For an apartment block with a central boiler/heat source and with flat stations in each apartment producing DHW instantaneously and controlling the heating, solar energy can support the heat source centrally. FUNCTION Solar energy is transferred from the panels via a heat exchanger module SLM-unit into a buffer tank for boiler water. If a sufficient flow temperature is not achieved solely by the solar energy supply, the central heat source switches on and secures correct flow temperature for the building. ADVANTAGE The advantage of this system design is, that the instantaneous water heaters in the flat stations require very low flow temperatures for DHW production and also generate a low return temperature, which together with a correctly designed SLM-unit and a correctly connected buffer tank secures the highest solar energy efficiency. In this design the control valve for the water heaters in the flat stations can be pressure and/or thermostatically controlled. For this design Danfoss can provide you with the flat stations and the SLM-unit.

Central boiler solar supported system with a central instantaneous water heater For an apartment block or a commercial building like a hotel, a factory or an office building with a central boiler/ heat source and with a central instantaneous water heater, solar energy can support the heat source centrally. FUNCTION Solar energy is transferred from the panels via a heat exchanger module SLM-unit into a buffer tank for boiler water. If a sufficient flow temperature is not achieved solely by the solar energy supply, the central heat source switches on and secures correct flow temperature for the building. ADVANTAGE Heating is distributed from the buffer tank in the traditional way to all the radiators. Domestic hot water is produced in the FWM-unit instantaneously for the circulation base load up to the peak load demand. The FWMunit drafts its energy from the buffer tank into the heat exchanger, activated by a signal from a flow switch, and secures a perfect domestic hot water comfort. The advantage of this design is that the FWM-unit requires very low flow temperatures for DHW production and also generates a low return temperature, which together with a correctly designed SLM-unit and a correctly connected buffer tank secures the highest solar energy efficiency. For this design Danfoss can provide you the FWM-unit and the SLM-unit.

Combigas boiler solar supported system with pressure controlled flat stations for DHW preheating For an apartment block with combi boilers/heat source in every apartment, solar energy can support the heat sources in each apartment centrally. FUNCTION Solar energy is transferred from the panels via a heat exchanger module SLM-unit into a buffer tank for boiler water. The boiler water is from there distributed into an instantaneous water heater in each apartment. The cold domestic water is then preheated in the instantaneous water heater before it continues to the combi boiler, where the water will be afterheated by use of a mixing valve until the required domestic hot water temperature is achieved. The energy for the heating is covered 100% by the combi boiler. ADVANTAGE The advantage of this system design enables combi boilers to be used in combination with solar energy. Especially for warmer climatic conditions, where the heating need is low and the need for domestic hot water is high, the system offers the advantage that solar energy can be specifically targeted to cover the domestic hot water need. The instantaneous water heaters always generate a low return temperature, which together with a correctly designed SLM-unit and a correctly connected buffer tank results in a high solar energy efficiency. The control valve for the water heaters must have a pressure control function. For this design Danfoss can provide you with the instantaneous water heaters and the SLM-unit.

Central boiler solar supported system with flat stations for HE and DHW For an apartment block with a central boiler/heat source and with flat stations in each apartment producing DHW instantaneously and controlling the heating, solar energy can support the production of domestic hot water decentralized. FUNCTION Solar energy is transferred from the panels via a coil in domestic hot water cylinders placed in each apartment. The cold domestic water is then preheated in the cylinder before it continues to the flat station, where the water will be afterheated until the required domestic hot water temperature is achieved. The energy for heating is covered 100% by the central boiler, and is distributed into the radiator via the flat station. ADVANTAGE This system design enables use of solar energy, if there is absolutely no space for central buffer tanks or if some tenants agree to have solar energy and others disagree. The flat station enables individual energy metering and allows system designs with low flow temperatures. For this design the control valve for the water heater in the flat stations should be thermostatically controlled or combined thermostatically and pressure controlled. For this design Danfoss can provide you with the flat stations.

Central boiler solar supported system with a central DHW charging system For an apartment block or a commercial building like a hotel, a factory or an office building with a central boiler/ heat source and with a domestic hot water charging system including a cylinder, solar energy can support the heat source centrally. FUNCTION The function can be described as follows: Solar energy is transferred from the panels via a heat exchanger module SLM-unit into a buffer tank for boiler water. If a sufficient flow temperature is not achieved solely by the solar energy supply, the central heat source switches on and secures correct flow temperature for the building. Heating is distributed from the buffer tank in the traditional way to all the radiators. Domestic hot water is produced in a charging module the F-unit - with a primary mixing shunt securing a moderate flow temperature to the heat exchanger, which again guarantees a temperature stable production of domestic hot water into the cylinder. ADVANTAGE This system design provides efficient solar support for heating and domestic hot water by use of a SLM-unit and a buffer tank. Further more the domestic hot water cylinder can cover very high peak loads, which is normal in commercial buildings and the primary mixing shunt reduces the risk for scale in the heat exchanger. For this design Danfoss can provide you with the F-unit and the SLMunit.

Central boiler solar supported system with heated swimming pool and flat stations for HE and DHW For an apartment block with a central boiler/heat source and with flat stations in each apartment producing DHW instantaneously and controlling the heating, solar energy can support the heat source centrally. A swimming pool can also be heated and serve as a safety buffer. FUNCTION Solar energy is transferred from the panels via a heat exchanger module SLM-unit into a buffer tank for boiler water. If a sufficient flow temperature is not achieved solely by the solar energy supply, the central heat source switches on and secures the correct flow temperature for the building. If the temperature in the buffer tank is becoming too high the solar heat will be diverted via a heat exchanger into the swimming pool. ADVANTAGE In this system design the instantaneous water heaters in the flat stations require very low flow temperatures for DHW production and also generate a low return temperature, which together with a correctly designed SLM-SWP-unit and a correctly connected buffer tank secures the highest solar energy efficiency and contributes to a higher functional security and comfort by use of the swimming pool. For this design the control valve for the water heaters in the flat stations can be pressure and/or thermostatically controlled. For this design Danfoss can provide you with the flat stations and the SLM-SWP-unit.
