INSTRUCTIONS: This book will be used to verify training in the prerequisite skills that are necessary for a certification test for Fire Fighter I, Module II. When the skill is mastered, it will be initialed and dated by the responsible authority for verification; any person who initials a subject must also place his/her name, position, and initial in the verifier portion of the booklet. This booklet may be used as satisfying prerequisite training when undertaking Fire Fighter I certification. NOTE: Text in italics is not a mandatory Fire Fighter I Performance Task. It is a suggested means of meeting the desired objective. SKILL REQUIREMENTS 5.3.7 Attack a Passenger Vehicle Fire Has Demonstrated the Ability to: Date Performance Skills Identify automobile fuel types - Is able to identify markings used to indicate fuel other than gasoline is being used in a vehicle. Open, close, and adjust the flow and pattern on nozzles - Is able to demonstrate how to correctly control a nozzle while performing the required nozzle operations. How to expose hidden fires. 8 Date Performance Skills Recognize inherent hazards related to the material s configuration - Is able to recognize problem with collapse of stacked materials or hazards related to the contents of small buildings or dumpsters. Operate handlines or master streams - Is able to demonstrate how to operate all handlines and master streams used by the department. If the department does not operate master streams, then the firefighter is able to correctly describe how these are operated. Break up material using hand tools and water streams - Is able to demonstrate overhaul of material such as bales, bags, or stacks using hand tools and water streams used by the department. Operate hose lines and other water application devices - Is able to demonstrate correctly operating all hose lines and water application devices used by the department. Evaluate and modify water application for maximum penetration - Is able to demonstrate obtaining maximum water penetration from all water application devices used by the department. Locate and expose hidden fires - Is able to demonstrate locating and exposing hidden fires utilizing all means available to the firefighter and department. Assess patterns for origin determination - Is able to determine where a fire originated by the burn patterns present. Evaluate for complete extinguishment - Is able to properly overhaul a fire scene. 5
5.3.10 Attack an Interior Structure Fire (Partial) Has Demonstrated the Ability to: KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS Date Performance Skills Attack fires at grade level - Is able to demonstrate correctly entering a structure and extinguishing a fire at grade level. Attack fires at above grade level - Is able to demonstrate correctly entering a structure and extinguishing a fire above grade level. Attack fires at below grade level - Is able to demonstrate correctly entering a structure and extinguishing a fire below grade level. Locate and suppress interior wall and subfloor fires - Is able to correctly demonstrate locating interior wall and subfloor fires using all methods available to the firefighter and to overhaul while causing the least damage. 5.3.7 Attack a Passenger Vehicle Fire Has Demonstrated Satisfactory Knowledge of: Date Performance Skills Principles of fire streams as they relate to fighting automobile fires.
