SAFEYE XENON 700 Open Path has been designed to detect hydrocarbons in industrial applications. They are used most often in addition to point type gas detectors to monitor a wider area. The SafEye Xenon 700 consists of an advanced Xenon Flash infrared transmitter (source) and infrared detector (receiver), separated over a line of sight from 13 ft (4 m) up to 460 ft (140 m) to detect and quantity flammable gas presence, even when challenged by extremely harsh environments where dust, fog, rain, snow, or vibration can cause a high reduction of signal. The open path analyzes atmospheric absorption at three selected spectral bands, two in a region where the target gas absorbs and one where it does not absorb. The ratio between these absorption lines can provide accurate information of the gas concentration along an optical path. When no gas is present, the two signals are equal whereas if gas is present, measurement and reference signals are different. These three detectors contribute to the reduction of false diagnostics and assure high immunity to false alarms. Moreover, thanks to infrared technology, the SafEye Xenon 700 can maintain operational integrity up to 90% obscuration and accepts up to 1 misalignment tolerance. The SafEye Xenon 700 includes heated optics on the transmitter and receiver to address icing, condensation and snow. The SafEye Xenon 700 is an ideal Open-path whatever your application. Examples Example 1 Source 20 meters 5% LEL Receiver Example 2 Source 1 meter 100% LEL Receiver Not all gas clouds are hazardous. Only if a flammable gas cloud or plume is wide enough to allow flame acceleration to speeds greater than 100 m/sec, does it become a significant threat. Contrary to point type gas detectors, the open path measures the gas cloud concentration over many meters. Thus, the unit of measurement for Open Path is LEL.meter instead of % LEL. In the example, a cloud of 100% LEL concentration on 1 meter will give the same signal than a cloud of 5% LEL on 20 meters. 100% LEL x 1 meter = 5% LEL x 20 meters = 1 LEL.meter Location of the SafEye 700 is less important than with point type detector as it provides a warning alarm from a diluted gas cloud and does not need to be close to the leakage source. Fewer Open Paths are needed to secure the site, reducing installation costs. Advantages Detection of a wide range of gaseous hydrocarbons such as Alkanes, Alkenes, Alcohols, LNG, LPG, Ethylene SIL 2 approved by TÜV according to IEC 61508 Ex Approved for hazardous area location Fast response time Heated optics for operation in harsh weather conditions Multiple output options : ma, relays, RS 485 ModBus, HART Solar blind and immune to false alarms from industrial environments Resilient and excellent performance withstanding extreme vibrations, displacement and shock Dirty optics compensation Rugged, stainless steel structure 10-year warranty for Xenon flash bulb One-person commissioning and installation
Open path gas detection System Applications The new SafEye version is based on proven technology and performance. Thousands of first generation SafEyes have been installed on offshore platforms, refineries and other onshore applications. Offshore platforms SafEye Xenon 700 provides alarm and shutdown signals that enable emergency and preventive measures. Oil and Gas Many process and storage areas in the modern refinery are protected by the SafEye systems. Process plants and pipelines Hydrocarbons, LNG/LPG or Ethylen detection in LEL.m. Other applications - Onshore industry - Pipeline - Paint-booths - Bus terminals (natural gas powered) - Storage areas - Waste disposal and processing SafEye Xenon 700 combines performance, strength and reliability. www.oldhamgas.com
