Product description 3.2 Principe of operation Area of appication Functiona principe VEGASWING 63 is a eve sensor with tuning fork for eve detection. It is designed for industria use in a areas of process technoogy and can be used in iquids. Typica appications are overfi and dry run protection. The sma tuning fork aows the use in a kind of tanks and vesse. Thanks to its simpe and rugged measuring system, VEGA- SWING 63 is virtuay unaffected by the chemica and physica properties of the iquid. It functions even under difficut conditions such as turbuence, air bubbes, foam generation, buidup, strong externa vibration or changing products. Faut monitoring The eectronics modue of VEGASWING 63 continuousy monitors via frequency evauation the foowing criteria: Strong corrosion or damage on the tuning fork oss of vibration Line break to the piezo drive If a mafunction is detected or in case of power faiure, the eectronics takes on a defined switching condition, i.e. the output transistor bocks (safe condition). The tuning fork is piezoeectricay energised and vibrates at its mechanica resonance frequency of approx. 1200 Hz. The piezos are fixed mechanicay and are hence not subject to temperature shock imitations. The frequency changes when the tuning fork is covered by the medium. This change is detected by the integrated osciator and converted into a switching command. Suppy VEGASWING 63 is a compact instrument, i.e. it can be operated without externa evauation system. The integrated eectronics evauates the eve signa and outputs a switching signa. With this switching signa, a connected device can be operated directy (e.g. a warning system, a PLC, a pump etc.). The data for power suppy are stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". VEGASWING 63 - - transistor (NPN/PNP) 9

Product description 3.3 Operation The switching condition of VEGASWING 63 with pastic housing can be checked when the housing is cosed (signa amp). In the basic adjustment, products with a density >0.7 g/ cm³ (0.025 bs/in³) can be detected. The instrument can be adapted if products with ower density shoud be measured. On the eectronics modue you wi find the foowing indicating and adjustment eements: signa amp for indication of the switching condition (green/ red) DIL switch for sensitivity adjustment Mode switch for seection of the switching condition (A/B) 3.4 Storage and transport Packaging Storage and transport temperature Your instrument was protected by packaging during transport. Its capacity to hande norma oads during transport is assured by a test according to DIN EN 24180. The packaging of standard instruments consists of environment-friendy, recycabe cardboard. In addition, the sensor is provided with a protective cover of ABS. For specia versions PE foam or PE foi is aso used. Dispose of the packaging materia via speciaised recycing companies. Mounting 4 Mounting 4.1 Genera instructions Switching point In genera, VEGASWING 63 can be mounted in any position. The instrument must be mounted in such a way that the tuning fork is at the height of the requested switching point. The tuning fork has atera markings (notches) that indicate the switching point with vertica mounting. The switching point refers to water with the basic setting of the sensitivity switch >=0.7 g/cm³ (0.025 bs/in³). When mounting VEGASWING 63, make sure that this marking is at the height of the requested switching point. Keep in mind that the switching point of the instrument is shifted if the medium has a density other than water - water =1 g/cm³ (0.036 bs/in³). For products <0.7 g/cm³ (0.025 bs/in³) and >0.5 g/cm³ (0.018 bs/in³) the density switch must be set to >=0.5 g/cm³. Keep in mind that foams with a density >0.45 g/cm³ (0.016 bs/ in³) are detected by the sensor. This can cause fauty switchings particuary when used as dry run protection system. 2 1 3 4 Fig. 2: Vertica mounting 1 Switching point approx. 13 mm (0.51 in) 2 Switching point with ower density 3 Switching point with higher density 4 Switching point approx. 27 mm (1.06 in) VEGASWING 63 - - transistor (NPN/PNP) 11

Mounting 1 Fig. 3: Horizonta mounting 1 Switching point 1 2 Fig. 4: Vertica instaation (recommended instaation position, especiay for adhesive products) 1 Switching point 2 Marking with screwed version on top, with fange versions directed to the fange hoes With fange versions, the fork is directed as foows to the fange hoes. Fig. 5: Fork position with fange versions Moisture Use the recommended cabes (see chapter "Connecting to power suppy") and tighten the cabe gand. You can give your VEGASWING 63 additiona protection against moisture penetration by eading the connection cabe downward in front of the cabe entry. Rain and condensation 12 VEGASWING 63 - - transistor (NPN/PNP)

Mounting water can thus drain off. This appies mainy to mounting outdoors, in areas where moisture is expected (e.g. by ceaning processes) or on cooed or heated vesses. Fig. 6: Measures against moisture penetration Transport Pressure/Vacuum Handing Do not hod VEGASWING 63 on the tuning fork. Particuary with fange or tube versions, the tuning fork can be damaged just by the weight of the instrument. Transport coated instruments very carefuy and avoid touching the tuning fork. Remove the protective cover just before mounting. The process fitting must be seaed if there is gauge or ow pressure in the vesse. Before use, check if the sea materia is resistant against the measured product and the process temperature. The max. permissibe pressure is stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement" or on the type abe of the sensor. The vibrating eve switch is a measuring instrument and must be treated accordingy. Bending the vibrating eement wi destroy the instrument. Warning: The housing must not be used to screw the instrument in! Appying tightening force on the housing can damage its rotationa mechanica parts. To screw in, use the hexagon above the thread. VEGASWING 63 - - transistor (NPN/PNP) 13

Mounting 4.2 Mounting instructions Weded socket VEGASWING 63 has a defined thread starting point. This means that every VEGASWING 63 is in the same fork position after being screwed in. Remove therefore the suppied sea from the thread of VEGASWING 63. This sea is not required when using a weded socket with O-ring in front. Keep in mind that this weded socket is not suitabe for coated instrument versions. Screw VEGASWING 63 competey into the weded socket. The ater position can be determined aready before weding. Mark the appropriate position of the weded socket. Before weding, unscrew VEGASWING 63 and remove the rubber ring from the weded socket. The weded socket has a marking (notch). Wed the socket with the notch facing upward, or in case of pipeines, aigned with the direction of fow. 1 Adhesive products Fig. 7: Marking on the weded socket 1 Marking In case of horizonta mounting in adhesive and viscous products, the surfaces of the tuning fork shoud be vertica in order to reduce buidup on the tuning fork. On the screwed version you wi find a marking on the hexagon. With this, you can check the position of the tuning fork when screwing it in. When the hexagon touches the sea, the thread can sti be turned by approx. haf a turn. This is sufficient to reach the recommended instaation position. With fange versions, the fork is directed to the fange hoes. When used in adhesive and viscous products, the tuning fork shoud protrude into the vesse to avoid buidup. For that reason, sockets for fanges and mounting bosses shoud be avoided when mounting horizontay. 14 VEGASWING 63 - - transistor (NPN/PNP)

Mounting Infowing medium If VEGASWING 63 is mounted in the fiing stream, unwanted mismeasurements may resut. Mount VEGASWING 63 at a ocation in the vesse where no disturbing infuence from e.g. fiing openings, agitators, etc. can occur. This appies particuary to instrument types with ong extension tube. Fig. 8: Infowing medium Fows Agitators To minimise fow resistance caused by the tuning fork, VEGASWING 63 shoud be mounted in such a way that the surfaces of the bades are parae to the product movement. Due to the effects of agitators, equipment vibration or simiar, the eve switch can be subjected to strong atera forces. For this reason, do not use an overy ong extension tube for VEGASWING 63, but check if you can mount a VEGASWING 61 eve switch on the side of the vesse in horizonta position. Extreme vibration caused by the process or the equipment, e. g. agitators or turbuence in the vesse can cause the extension tube of VEGASWING 63 to vibrate in resonance. This eads to increased stress on the upper wed joint. Shoud a onger tube version be necessary, you can provide a suitabe support or guy directy above the tuning fork to secure the extension tube. This measure appies particuary to appications in Ex areas category 1G or WHG. Make sure that the tube is not bent by this measure. VEGASWING 63 - - transistor (NPN/PNP) 15

Connecting to power suppy 5 Connecting to power suppy 5.1 Preparing the connection Note safety instructions Take note of safety instructions for Ex appications Aways keep in mind the foowing safety instructions: Connect ony in the compete absence of ine votage In hazardous areas you shoud take note of the appropriate reguations, conformity and type approva certificates of the sensors and power suppy units. Seect power suppy Seecting connection cabe Connect the power suppy according to the foowing diagrams. Take note of the genera instaation reguations. As a rue, connect VEGASWING 63 to vesse ground (PA), or in case of pastic vesses, to the next ground potentia. On the side of the instrument housing there is a ground termina between the cabe entries. This connection serves to drain off eectrostatic charges. In Ex appications, the instaation reguations for hazardous areas must be given priority. The data for power suppy are stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". VEGASWING 63 is connected with standard cabe with round cross section. An outer cabe diameter of 5 9 mm (0.2 0.35 in) ensures the sea effect of the cabe gand. If cabe with a different diameter or wire cross section is used, exchange the sea or use an appropriate cabe connection. In hazardous areas, ony use approved cabe connections for VEGASWING 63. Seect connection cabe for Ex appications Take note of the corresponding instaation reguations for Ex appications. 5.2 Connection procedure With Ex instruments, the housing cover may ony be opened if there is no exposive atmosphere present. Proceed as foows: 1 Unscrew the housing cover 2 Loosen compression nut of the cabe entry VEGASWING 63 - - transistor (NPN/PNP) 17

Connecting to power suppy 3 Remove approx. 10 cm (4 in) of the cabe mante, strip approx. 1 cm (0.4 in) insuation from the ends of the individua wires 4 Insert the cabe into the sensor through the cabe entry 5 Open the terminas with a screwdriver 6 Insert the wire ends into the open terminas according to the wiring pan 7 Tighten the terminas with a screwdriver 8 Check the hod of the wires in the terminas by ighty puing on them 9 Tighten the compression nut of the cabe entry. You can set the required mode according to the "Function chart" (A - max. detection or overfi protection, B - min. detection or dry run protection). With this DIL switch (3) you can set the switching point to iquids having a density between 0.5 and 0.7 g/cm³ (0.018 and 0.025 bs/in³). With the basic setting, iquids with a density of >0.7 g/cm³ (0.025 bs/in³) can be detected. In iquids with ower density, you must set the switch to >0.5 g/cm³ (0.018 bs/in³). The specifications for the position of the switching point reate to water - density vaue 1 g/cm³ (0.036 bs/in³). In products with a different density, the switching point wi shift in the direction of the housing or tuning fork end depending on the density and type of instaation. Keep in mind that foams with a density >0.45 g/cm³ (0.016 bs/ in³) are detected by the sensor. Nevertheess fauts can occur during operation. These may be caused by the foowing, e.g.: Sensor Process Suppy Signa processing The first measure to be taken is to check the output signa. In many cases, the causes can be determined this way and the fauts rectified. However, if these measures are not successfu, ca the VEGA service hotine in urgent cases under the phone no. +49 1805 858550. The hotine is avaiabe to you 7 days a week round-the-cock. Since we offer this service word-wide, the support is ony avaiabe in the Engish anguage. The service is free of charge, ony the standard teephone costs wi be charged. Checking the switching signa? VEGASWING 63 signas "covered" when the vibrating eement is not submerged (overfi protection)? VEGASWING 63 signas "uncovered" when the vibrating eement is submerged (dry run protection) Suppy votage too ow à Check the power suppy Eectronics modue defective à Press the mode switch (min./max.). If the instrument then changes the mode, the instrument may be mechanicay damaged. Shoud the switching function in the correct mode sti be fauty, return the instrument for repair. à Push the mode switch. If the instrument then does not change the mode, the osciator may be defective. Exchange the osciator. 24 VEGASWING 63 - - transistor (NPN/PNP)

Maintenance and faut rectification à Check if there is buidup on the vibrating eement, and if so, remove it. Unfavourabe instaation ocation à Mount the instrument at a ocation in the vesse where no dead zones or air bubbes can form. Wrong mode seected à Set the correct mode on the mode switch (max.: overfi protection, min.: dry run protection). Wiring shoud be carried out according to the quiescent current principe.? Signa amp fashes red Eectronics has detected a faiure à Exchange instrument or return instrument for repair? The signa amp fashes aternatey red and green instrument defective à Exchange instrument or return instrument for repair 7.3 Instrument repair If a repair is necessary, pease proceed as foows: You can downoad a return form (23 KB) from our homepage in the Internet www.vega.com under: "Downoads - Forms and Certificates - Repair form". By doing this you hep us carry out the repair quicky and without having to ca back for needed information. Print and fi out one form per instrument Cean the instrument and pack it damage-proof Attach the competed form and, if need be, aso a safety data sheet outside on the packaging Pease ask the agency serving you for the address of your return shipment.
