ABSTRACT Abstract The Advanced Discovery System (in short: ADICOS) is used for early detection of fire scenarios in the industrial environment. It comprises different, independent detector units that enable interference-resistant fulfillment of the detection objective defined during planning via suitable layout and parameterization. The detector units are connected using the ADICOS M-bus to a central unit, which enables voltage supply and parameterization of every individual detector, and which stores all sensor data for statistical analyses. The is used in combination with the SOLO 760 battery rack from the company No Climb Products Ltd. (detectortesters.com) as tester for all ADICOS detectors of the type GSME. 430-2410-101 EN10 I

Structure and function 4.2 Function The enables safe smoldering of GTL fire spirals for the generation of typical fire gases. In combination with the SOLO 760 battery rack with telescopic rod, this fire gases can be used for controlled test triggering of ADICOS fire gas detectors of the type GSME in installation situations in industrial systems. For this purpose, the is ignited before entering the installation to be tested, the fire spiral within the fire chamber and the fan unit with the SOLO 760 connected battery rod. If the gas - hopper of the GTL-2 now pressed against the front of an ADICOS GSME, carries the air flow generated by the fan unit inside the GTL-2 released gases into the detector and triggers an alarm. 430-2410-101 EN10 9

Commissioning preparation 5 Commissioning preparation DANGER! The works with a controlled combustion. Improper use can cause fires and explosions. Do not open housing inside industrial systems! 5.1 Inserting the ember filter The GTL ember filter prevents ember and hot ashes escaping during operation. As the filter clogs during operation with fire deposits, the ember filter of the GTL-2 must be replaced prior to every use. A clogged ember filter obstructs proper test gas emission which can lead to faulty test results. Inserting/replacing the ember filter 1 Unscrew the ember filter holder (union nut) from the threaded connection in the GTL cover counterclockwise To facilitate this step, press and compress the gas funnel against the GTL cover with the free hand. 2 Remove and dispose of the used ember filter 3 Insert the new ember filter straight into the ember filter holder 4 Screw the ember filter holder with the new ember filter clockwise on the threaded connection in the GTL cover and tighten firmly 10 430-2410-101 EN10

Commissioning preparation 5.2 Inserting the fire spiral GTL fire spirals are used as combustible material for the generation of test gases for the detector test. Prior to every operation, the new fire spiral should be inserted into the fire chamber to ensure that sufficient combustible material is available for operation. Inserting the fire spiral 1 Open device For this purpose, pull the GTL cover vertically off the base part. Pull firmly 2 Unscrew the knurled nut 3 Dispose of possibly present combustible material residues in a safe and proper manner 4 Place new fire spiral with hole onto the threaded pin in the fire chamber 5 Screw on fire spiral using the knurled nut Tighten knurled nut carefully to prevent damage to the fire spiral! 6 Close device Place the GTL cover straight onto the base part and press on firmly 5.3 Cleaning the ventilation disc To ensure sufficient airflow of the GTL-2, the state of the ventilation disc must be checked prior to every use on the bottom of the fire chamber. If fire residues are present, the disc must be cleaned. Cleaning the ventilation disc 1 Open device 2 Hold GTL base part with the spring washer facing up 3 Brush off the ventilation disc and remove any deposits using the enclosed brass cleaning brush 4 Remove any loosened material from the fire chamber 5 Close device 430-2410-101 EN10 11

Commissioning preparation 5.4 Charging the battery rod NOTE! Before mounting the SOLO 760 battery rack, verify the state of charge of the contained batteries. Charge batteries according to manufacturer specifications! 5.5 Mount the fan unit The GTL fan unit connects the GTL-2 with the SOLO 760 battery rod, which provides the integrated fan unit with miniature fan voltage. Mount the fan unit screw in the fan unit into the thread at the bottom of the GTL base. 12 430-2410-101 EN10

Commissioning 6 Commissioning DANGER! The works with a controlled combustion. Improper use can cause fires and explosions. Do not open housing inside industrial systems! Only operate the device with hot work approval! Only operate the device with the ember filter! Only operate with tightly closed lid! WARNING! Harmful vapors are generated during operation. Do not inhale the vapors! NOTE! Before commissioning the make sure, that the batteries of the SOLO 760 battery rack sufficiently charged! the fan unit is bolted to the GTL base! a new glow-filter is inserted and screwed into the GTL-cover! a new fire spiral is inserted and screwed in the GTL-fire chamber! 6.1 Take fan unit in operation The fan unit of automatically starts working as soon as it is connected to the SOLO 760 battery rack. mount battery rack 1 Insert the SOLO 760 battery rack into the fan unit, by pushing the socket forward until the locking button locks 2 Depress the locking button and push the rod until it stops further 3 Twist the battery rod under applied pressure until it locks with an audible click ZZ The fan starts to rotate! 430-2410-101 EN10 13

Commissioning 6.2 Ignite fire spiral 1 Open GTL cover 2 Lift the end of the fire spiral carefully with one hand 3 Ignite the end of the fire spiral with a lighter 4 Release fire spiral 5 close GTL-lid ZZ The tester is ready for use now! 14 430-2410-101 EN10

Operation 7 Operation DANGER! The works with a controlled combustion. Improper use can cause fires and explosions. Do not open housing inside industrial systems! Only operate the device with hot work approval! Only operate the device with the ember filter! Only operate with tightly closed lid! After operating extinguish fire spiral! WARNING! Harmful vapors are generated during operation. Do not inhale the vapors! 7.1 Test fire gas detector GSME 1 Press GTL-2 with the gas funnel towards the front of the detector and hold it for a test time of two minutes. 2 Remove gas funnel from the detector 3 After the final test necessarily extinguish fire spiral and turn off the fan by pulling the battery rack DANGER! The fire spiral can cause fires at unattended burning. Extinguish the fire spiral after the last test! 7.2 Extinguishing the GTL 1 Open device 2 Loosen the knurled nut 3 Carefully remove the glowing fire spiral and extinguish with water Alternatively: Break off the glowing end of the fire spiral generously and extinguish with water 4 Close device 430-2410-101 EN10 15

Maintenance 7.3 Turn off fan unit The fan unit of is active, as long as it is connected to the SOLO 760 battery rack. Separate battery rack 1 Push down the SOLO 760 battery rack locking button and hold 2 Pull battery rack entirely from GTL fan unit ZZ The fan stops. 8 Maintenance 8.1 Cleaning Cleaning the ventilation disk See Chap. 5.3,»Cleaning the ventilation disc«. Cleaning the fire chamber Clean the metal surfaces of the fire chamber and the inside of the cover after operation using a damp cloth. Use a commercially available oven cleaner as needed. Cleaning the GTL housing Clean the outside surfaces of the GTL-2 using a damp cloth as needed.
