1. Technical Data: Type: AS 50 Voltage AC 230 V dimensions Depth 650 mm Frequency 50 Hz Width 630 mm Power 0,88 kw Height 1280 mm Mains fuse 10 A Weight (w/o accessories) 25 kg Filling amount Clear water container and process container approx. 50 litres, Filter box approx. 60 litres 2. Installation 2.1 Set-up and Safety Check Place the AS 50 on a firm base and secured as required if to be in a fixed position. The AS 50 should be positioned so it that it can be accessed from the front and at rear for draining Run mains cords and water hose to the outside of the unit using the provided openings at rear. The spray gun requires unclipping from its hose thread through aperture and feed to top of unit. Replace spray gun and secure in hands free clip above wash up area. Take the pneumatic hose off the pneumatic footswitch (push fit) and run it too outside / front of AS50 using the opening provided at rear Plug the 2 x earthed mains plugs into an approved mains socket with 230V/ 50 Hz/ 10 A FI* (* differential switch with min. 30 ma in 30 ms ) Position the pneumatic foot switch so that it can be easily accessed from the front of the unit. Fill base 50 Lt. reservoir with fresh water, (water level is approx. 1 cm below container edge). N.B. Before first operation of the AS50: Prime the pump with fresh water Remove black vent screw from top / front of pump housing Fill with water until chamber is full and overflowing Replace black vent screw and tighten (do not over tighten) WARNING!!! An incompletely de-aerated pump may affect operation of the system. Dry running of the pump leads to pump damage!! Filters: For best filtration results we recommend the simultaneous use of two filter bags Insert filters into filter basket as follows: Fit Grey felt filter first followed by fine White. See Specific install and User instruction sheets for full details AS50 operating manual, 2013 Page 3
3. Operation WARNING!! Do not use the AS50 for Solvent based Paints and Lacquers, Do not use unit to dispose of old paint and coatings - The AS50 is not a bin!! 3.1 Cleaning of Tools Ensure that the Red gate valve closed, otherwise untreated water will run straight through to filter Spray Gun: Operation is by pressing the footswitch: the pump draws the water out of the clear water reservoir and delivers it to the hands free spray gun via high pressure hose. Press spray gun lever to start the water jet, adjust spay volume and pattern to suit. Roller cleaning: Place paint roller behind the splash guard with handle to bottom. By opening the control valve above and press foot switch, the water will flow from the jet rail. Moving the roller in front of water jet will cause the roller to spin and the paint to be spun out of roller cover. With practice the Sweet spot for attaining best roller rotation will be found. Turning the roller 180º behind splash guard enables the complete cleaning of of the roller. When all paint has been removed release foot switch and allow roller to spin dry. Before cleaning paint rollers, remove as much paint as possible. After cleaning roller cover remove from the roller cover from frame and rinse both under spray gun to complete cleaning process. The cleaning process can continue until the reservoir water has transferred to the upper processing sink. When the water level in the clean water reservoir has reached its minimum level the pump ** will automatically cut out and water purification of the dirty waste water in the process tank needs to be undertaken before proceeding. ** If using high pressure roller cleaner at this point the pump can sometimes become vented and require repriming. 3.2 Water Purification (Flocculation) ATTENTION!! Before starting the purification process make sure that the processing tank contains no particles larger than 3 mm. Do not start the agitator before the processing container is completely filled as air not water is drawn into the agitator and will damage impeller. Start the agitators by pressing button on the left side of the filter box. The control lamp illuminates to indicate that the agitator is stirring the dirty water. While the agitator is running, disperse required fission powder onto surface waste water with supplied scoop. The amount of flocculation powder aquafloc 7 is determined by the type and density of paint being treated. AS50 has 50 litres water, allowing 1% paint dispersion requires 70 grams Fission powder - ¾ scoop The amount of flocculation powder aquafloc 7 is determined by the type and density of paint being treated. Ensure the flocation powder is thoroughly mixed into the water to avoid clumping. The built-in timer switch automatically turns off the agitator after approx. 15 min. You can use the push-button to manually turn the agitator on or off at any time. Leaving the water to stand for approx.10 mins, the sediment and water will be seen to separate and the water appearing totally clear with the flocked solids laying in base of sink. If not completely clear repeat the cleaning process as described above with a further 50 grams of fission powder Experience will in time guide your purification / agitation times and volume of flocculation powder required AS 50 operating manual, 2013 Page 4
3.3 Disposal of Sludge Make sure the filter is correctly positioned beneath the drain outlet Insert special raised plug into the central drain point and slowly open the associated red handled gate valve on front of unit. By doing this it will ensure the majority of clear water drains off first and returns more quickly through filter and into base reservoir. When water has drained to top of raised plug remove plug. This will allow the remaining water and flocated sludge to run off into filter box. When fully drained remove the remaining residual sludge and clean all paint deposits from the process sink with spray gun and a cleaning brush to complete process. Ensure all flocated paint residue is washed down the drain. It is good practice to thoroughly rinse the agitator unit via the small hole in right hand side of unit. Finally give sink a wipe down with a clean damp cloth. If this method is followed it will not only sped up the filtration process but gain the highest possible filter capacity. Before starting the next cleaning process, check water level for loss due to evaporation and top up reservoir. WARNING!! Under no circumstances should the pump be allowed to run dry! After 3-4 cleaning processes exchange top white filter for a fresh one. Removed filter can be left to dry out, sludge should be then be shaken out and disposed of as solid waste, observing the official regulations. The white filter can then be rinsed, dried and reused 4 Transportation, Care and Maintenance 4.1 Transportation The AS 50 is equipped with heavy duty castor wheels making unit extremely portable. Impacts on the housing should be avoided, especially at temperatures below 5º C when material becomes more brittle and has higher risk of breakage. The AS 50 is made of high quality polyethylene. This material has outstanding features in resistance to solvents and chemicals. The mechanical stability is designed for professional and industrial use. 4.2 Drainage Periodically the water should be replaced. Place AS50 adjacent to a suitable floor drain. At rear of unit rotate drain pipe downwards and remove plug to allow water to run away, unit should be tipped backwards to remove last of the water. Replace plug and return drain pipe to vertical position.. Alternatively unit can also be drained by using spray gun into an adjacent sink or drain, last vestiges can be removed using discharge pipe as above 4.3 Frost Protection Store and operate the unit only in a frost-protected environment. If the storage location is not frost-free, all residual water must be completely removed from main unit, pump and all accessories. 4.4 Maintenance The AS 50 has been designed for long lasting problem free use. To maintain functionality a minimum of maintenance is required, thorough cleaning after every process and the occasional cleaning of the impeller is usually sufficient. All plastic parts need to be cleaned with water and soft brushes. Don t wait until paint has becomes completely dry!! AS 50 operating manual, 2013 Page 5
