WHAT A BLENDING TANK DOES A blending tank is installed in a private well water system along with a Sears Solution Dispensing System and a Clarifying Tank Filter. The Solution Dispensing System adds chlorine (household bleach), Sears Neutralizer Compound, or a mixture of both into the water to treat iron, hydrogen sulfide, acid, or combinations of these. For the chlorine and/or neutralizer compound to do a good job, it must mix and blend with the water for a short time. When the well pump is running, the solution pump is feeding the chlorine or neutralizer compound into the water system. With todays fast recovery well pumps, most water bypasses the pressure tank during peak water use times. This does not allow enough time for the chlorine and/or neutralizer compound to mix with the problem water. The blending tank, installed in the water system AFTER the pressure tank, (FIG. 1) provides the needed mixing of chlorine and/or neutralizer compound with the water. Water, along with the chlorine or neutralizer compound, enters the blending tank and sprays out in different directions through holes in the inlet tube (FIG. 2). Complete mixing takes place as the flow travels upward through the tank, to the outlet tube, and out to the house pipes. NOTE: The blending tank does not contain a bladder, or fittings for connecting an air pressure control. DO NOT USE AS A STANDARD OR CAPTIVE AIR PRESSURE TANK. Place as close as possible to a water drain such as a floor drain, laundry tub, sump or standpipe. DO NOT install in a place where freezing temperatures occur. Freeze damage voids the warranty by Sears, Roebuck and Co. Put the blending tank in a place water damage is least likely to occur if it develops a leak. Sears or the manufacturer will not repair or pay for water damage. 3
BEFORE YOU BEGIN TO INSTALL THE BLENDING TANK TOOLS, PIPE, FITTINGS AND OTHER MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED (See FIG. 3) In and out pipes to the blending tank must be at least 3/4 in. size. Some local codes may tell you to use no less than 1 in. pipe size. Use copper, brass, or galvanized pipe and fittings. Some codes may also allow CPVC plastic pipe. Copper and galvanzied pipe corrode fast when connected together You can buy adaptors to go from a copper or threaded main water pipe to CPVC in and out pipe. ALWAYS install bypass shut-off valves so you can turn off water to the blending tank, but still have water in the house pipes. TOOLS NEEDED: a slip-joint pliers, a tapemeasure or rule. Check your work for leaks, and repair if any are found. 9. Turn on the gas supply (or electric) to the water heater and relight the pilot. MAINTENANCE Every month or 2, as needed, purge sediments that have settled to the bottom of the tank. To do this... 1. Fasten a length of garden hose to the blending tank drain valve. Place the outlet of the hose at the floor drain. 2. Fully open the drain valve and allow water to run 1 to 2 minutes, or until water from the drain hose runs clear. 3. Close the drain valve and disconnect the garden hose. NOTE: If complete draining of the tank is necessary (to protect from freezing, to move, etc.) you may have to inject air into the tank so it will drain. To completely drain, turn off water to the blending tank and...... Fasten a garden hose to the drain valve and run to the floor drain.... Open the drain valve.... Disconnect outlet side plumbing at the outlet fitting.... If water does not drain from the tank, blow air (Max. 20 psi) into the outlet fitting until water runs freely from the drain hose.
