Dunham-Bush Hydrocourse trench heating comprises powder coated steel casings, finned tube elements and satin anodized aluminium grilles. Hydrocourse provides natural convective heat and produces a warm air current which can be used to off-set local down draughts and heat losses. It is suitable for operation with pumped hot water systems. SELECTION & APPLICATION General Dunham-Bush Hydrocourse trench heating is designed to cover a broad range of casing sizes, grille styles and outputs. Heat is emitted by natural convection and provides evenly distributed warmth, ideal for preventing down draughts on cold surfaces such as outside walls and glazing. Standard casings are supplied in fixed lengths of 500mm, 1000mm, 1500mm. Telescopic casings with an adjustment range1 000-1500mm length are supplied for made-to-fit installations Similarly, trim casings with a range 0-1000mm can also be supplied for cutting on-site. Standard, telescopic and/or trim casings are fixed together on site to form a continuous heating run. End caps are available for finishing the ends of Hydrocourse trench cases. Where specified Hydrocourse trench heating can accommodate flow & return pipework. When using L.P.H.W or M.T.H.W as the heating medium in long lengths, consideration must be given to the change in output along the length due to the reduction in water temperature from flow water temperature to return water temperature. On long runs consideration must be given to accommodate the expansion of the element/pipework. Dunham-Bush can supply expansion bellows and guides upon request. Step 1. Select a model to suit to the desired dimensions that the floor void/trench will accommodate. Base the selection of the model firstly by the model s casings height. Trench heating is supplied with an additional height adjustment of up to 50mm (with factory-fitted M6x70 levelling screws) Adjustable casing supports can also be supplied for floor voids greater than 150mm in depth, up to the depth of 450mm. Special, bespoke casings can be considered contact your Dunham-Bush represetative. Step 2. Once the desired model is selected, calculate the nominal output per length, using the correction factors. Step 3. Decide the location of the trench heaters and consider floor grilles. If heaters are to be installed in areas of high foot traffic, rigid grilles are more suitable than roll grilles. The standard grille offered for all applications is the Y-Bar roll grille. Step 4. Consider finishes as well as control accessories; contact Dunham-Bush for further guidance. 9

10

SELECTION & APPLICATION Provision for expansion, general considerations. When the elements and tubing are connected to form a continuous run, provision must be made for the resulting expansion when the heating medium is applied to the system. It may be possible, in some circumstances, to arrange for a small amount of expansion to be taken up within the casing by allowing the pipework to float. But it is usually necessary to provide expansion bellows & guides to compensate for the expansion. As a basic rule the maximum float should not exceed 6mm. Because of the limited space available within the trench casings it is not always possible to fit proprietary expansion bellows, and for this reason Dunham-Bush offer purpose made expansion joints and suitable pipe guides. Quantity of Expansion Joints and Guides To decide on the quantity and suitability of Dunham-Bush expansion joints & guides for a particular application. The total amount of movement or expansion of the elements and tubing in the run being considered. This will depend upon the difference between the minimum installed and maximum operating temperature and the coefficient of the linear expansion of the tubing material. Each expansion joint & guide kit is capable of accepting up to 6mm maximum of expansion, i.e. 3mm from each end. 11

CONSTRUCTION Handling The purchaser is responsible for off loading. Heaters are grouped together and loaded upon a pallet up to 2.0m x 1.2m. When a significant quantity of heaters is delivered, they may be palletised and shrink wrapped, so a fork lift truck or some form of lifting equipment is strongly desirable. Care should be taken to ensure the heaters are not dropped or knocked under any circumstances. Storage Heaters should be stored under clean, dry conditions. The shrink wrap should not be removed until heaters are required for installation, unless damage in transit is suspected. Note the purchaser must examine the heaters promptly upon receipt and any claims for damage will only be accepted if, at the time of delivery, the consignment note is endorsed with a note detailing the damage and counter signed by the transport driver. Installation details Hydrocourse heaters are supplied with a copy of the Installation, Operation & Maintenance Instructions, which provide full details for installing, connecting and commissioning the unit. Additional copies are available upon request, or can downloaded from www.dunham-bush.co.uk. Preparation A suitable trench void should be prepared ready to accept the trench heating system. The trench void should be straight, uniform and level and free from obstructions that encroach on the casing, grille trim or grilles. If the trench system is to be cast into the floor, the installer must take adequate precautions to protect the dimensional stability of the casing assembly. Suitably sized plywood shuttering must be fitted to the grille recess prior to casting taking place. PRICES & CONDITION OF SALE Prices Dunham-Bush Ltd do not issue price lists but will be pleased to supply a written quotation upon request. Condition of sale The standard conditions of sale appear on all quotation and order acknowledgement forms. Additional copies are available upon request. Availability Hydrocourse trench heaters are supplied direct from our manufacturing plant. The availability varies with demand and should therefore be checked at the time of ordering. Packaging Heaters are placed on the pallets and given individual labels for referencing and then they are shrink wrapped. Each heater is marked to show the model, figure number, serial number and any reference given on the order for site identification. This information also appears on the consignment note. Delivery to site Hydrocourse heaters are delivered to site in accordance with our Conditions of Sale. The purchaser is responsible for the off loading and proper safe storage. Ordering and enquiry detail To allow us to process your order promptly, please refer to any quotation we have supplied and any relevant correspondence. Please send your order to our Agent or Sales Engineer who provided the quotation, remember to include the coil handings as incomplete information will delay manufacturing process. TECHNICAL SUPPORT SERVICES Product support In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Dunham-Bush has a network of Sales Agents, situated at strategic locations, to provide local support.
