HYDREX * WS Cleaner For Stencil/Misprint Cleaning and Defluxing Description HYDREX WS Cleaner is a blend of solvents and de-ionized (DI) water formulated to offer safe, non-flammable cleaning in aqueous or solvent cleaning equipment. It works effectively for removing uncured surface mount device (SMD) adhesives and raw solder pastes from stencils and misprinted assemblies, as well as reflowed rosin, no-clean and water soluble flux residues from circuit assemblies. Stencil/Misprint Cleaning Applications HYDREX WS is designed to remove uncured SMD adhesives and rosin, water-soluble, and no-clean solder pastes from stencils and misprinted SMD assemblies. It also removes new epoxy solder pastes such as Alpha AP 4000. The product is effective when used unheated or heated. Rinsing can be done with DI water or with HYDREX WS. After rinsing stencils or assemblies, surfaces should be allowed to air dry or be blown dry with forced air. The HYDREX WS cleaning bath life is extended significantly when it is filtered through a 5 or 10 micron filter. Typical HYDREX WS Stencil Cleaning Process Steps Steps 1. Wash stencils or misprinted assemblies in concentrated HYDREX WS. 2. Rinse the residual HYDREX WS and dissolved residues from surfaces. 3. Dry surfaces as necessary. Process Details HYDREX WS works effectively unheated, but the cleaning bath can be heated to 100 F-125 F (43 C-52 C) to decrease cleaning time. Typical cleaning times (unheated) are from 3 to 5 minutes. HYDREX WS rinses easily with slightly heated or room temperature water, or with clean HYDREX WS. Typical rinse times are 1 minute to 1.5 minutes To remove the residual rinse water, use any appropriate method: desiccated forced air, oven, fan, centrifugal force, hand wipe, or other. Page 2 of 5
Post-Solder Defluxing Applications HYDREX WS can be used to remove water-soluble flux and paste residues as well as rosin and many no-clean flux and paste residues after wave solder or reflow. The product is effective when used heated or unheated. Follow washing by rinsing with DI water or with HYDREX WS. After rinsing assemblies, surfaces should be allowed to air dry or be blown dry with forced air. The HYDREX WS cleaning bath life is extended significantly when it is filtered through a 5 or 10 micron filter. Typical HYDREX WS Defluxing Process Steps Steps 1. Wash circuit assemblies in concentrated HYDREX WS. 2. Rinse the residual HYDREX WS and dissolved residues from surfaces. Process Details HYDREX WS works well unheated, but the wash bath temperature can be heated to 115-160 F (46-71 C), depending upon the particular residue to be removed. Typical cleaning times are from 3 to 7 minutes. HYDREX WS rinses easily with slightly heated or room temperature water, or with clean HYDREX WS. Typical rinse times are 1 minute to 1.5 minutes 3. Compatibility Stencils At operating temperatures below 130 F (54 C), HYDREX WS is compatible with stencil materials of construction, including adhesives and emulsions. Always keep operating temperatures below 130 F (54 C) when cleaning stencils. Studies show that stencil materials of construction are much more susceptible to attack at temperatures above 130 F (54 C), regardless of cleaning product. Circuit Assemblies - HYDREX WS is compatible with PWB materials of construction such as epoxies, flex laminates, and other cross-linked polymers. It does not affect cured solder mask. It will attack OSPs (organic solderability preservatives) Equipment HYDREX WS is compatible with metals, plastics and elastomers that are compatible with organic solvents. Safety and Toxicity Wash Bath and Rinse Water Disposal Packaging Shipping Please see Material Safety Data Sheet for detailed information. For internal disposal, used HYDREX WS can be evaporated in commercially available evaporator equipment. For external disposal, contact your current or local environmental service company for wastewater disposal options. While HYDREX WS is considered nonhazardous, materials cleaned such as solder pastes, which contain heavy metals, may make HYDREX WS wash baths hazardous. HYDREX WS is available worldwide in 5-gallon and 55-gallon containers. For samples, contact your Petroferm sales representative. This product is classified as non-hazardous. No special packaging is required to ship by air domestically or internationally. Handling Petroferm recommends that operators always use protective safety glasses and gloves when handling process chemicals such as HYDREX WS. Gloves made of nitrile or Buna N are recommended. Storage HYDREX WS is considered to be non-flammable and non-combustible by the (US) National Fire Protection Agency and therefore its storage is not regulated. The product should be stored in the original container, preferably in a ventilated, fire-resistant building. Page 4 of 5
