1. Safety Regulations Risk of personal injury and damage to property! The RAY-NC 1000 must only be installed and put into service by qualified and certified electricians who are familiar with the applicable regulations regarding occupational safety, accident prevention, VDE and local provisions (safeguards). They must have read and understood the operating instructions. All persons involved (e.g., operators) must be informed about the RAY-NC 1000 protective device. The access areas of gates/doors must be kept free of obstacles. 2. Intended Use The RAY-NC 1000 Closing Edge Safety Device is a non-contact active protective device (BWS/AOPD) for use on power-operated doors. It is solely approved for protecting main closing edges on vertically operated doors (e.g., roller grille doors, roller doors, sectional doors). The sensors should be covered for installation (see 1. Installation page 3). The RAY-NC 1000 is suitable for use as a protective device for the minimum level of safeguarding C and as presence detection for the minimum level of safeguarding E in accordance with DIN EN 12453. RAY-NC 1000 is intended for typical door speeds of 7 7/8 /s (20 cm/s); the maximum allowable door speed is 9 7/8 /s (25 cm/s). Shocks greater than 5 g/33 Hz (VDE 0160) should be avoided. To check whether the over travel distance of the door is suitable, perform the test specified in this manual (see 9. Maintenance page 6). RAY-NC 1000 is only approved for connecting to door control systems with FRABA OSE interfaces and to VITECTOR evaluation devices. The operating instructions of the door control system or FRABA evaluation devices must be taken into account; these are part of the overall safety-related operating instructions. RAY-NC 1000 consists of the following components (for model designation, see model code): RAY-NC-T XXXX (transmitter) RAY-NC-R XXXX (receiver) Release Date: 24.01.2017 FRABA GmbH 2 / 12
3. Use Restrictions The following use restrictions apply for using the RAY-NC 1000. - Do not use on horizontally operated doors (e.g., sliding doors) or doors intended for other uses, such as armored doors, elevator doors, vehicle doors, cabinets, etc. - Do not use in explosive atmospheres - Do not install sensors uncovered in hazardous areas (pinching points!) - Do not use as a pull-in protection device - Do not use as a an access security device 4. Misuse Improper or incorrect use or manipulation is not permitted, since risks to people or damages can result. Unauthorized repair, replacement and use of components that are not approved by the manufacturer, opening of the housing, and unauthorized alteration will void any liability and warranty. Increasing the distance between the light beam and the edge of the door is not allowed. 5. Functional Description The RAY-NC 1000 is a leading photo-eye for the main closing edge. Any interruption of the light beam between transmitter and receiver by an obstacle triggers a stop signal, which stops the dangerous movement of the power-operated door. An automatic restart occurs after the obstacle is removed, depending on the door control used. The door control has to be designed in a way that the movement of the door must be reversed when the light beam is triggered. When the door is closing, the light transmitter and light receiver telescope back into the housing, which serves as an approach stopper for the door. An automatic teach-in of the range occurs during the initial operation (see 1. Range Reset page 5). The RAY-NC electronically suppresses reflections, which can lead to a reflection of an obstacle. Because of this, the detection capability is not impaired by reflections (e.g., on the door or ground). A restriction of the optical angle is not necessary; this is deliberately kept large to avoid a false triggering e.g., by vibrations during the door movement. Release Date: 24.01.2017 FRABA GmbH 3 / 12
6. Installation Installation and electrical connection have to be made by a qualified professional when the sensor is disconnected from the power supply (see 1. Safety regulations page 1). The installation of the sensors has to be made when they are covered (e.g., inside the door frame), since otherwise hazardous pinching points are created. Acceptable installation position Incorrect installation position DOOR DOOR Attaching to the door: using an appropriate screwdriver, screw the screw (4) into the C-profile nut (2). Check and adjust parallel alignment to the door. The sensor must be installed parallel to the C- profile and must not be twisted. 1 C-profile (max. Slot width 11 mm) 2 C-profile nut 3 RAY-NC 1000 4 Screw 1 2 3 4 The installation of a weather closure profile (rubber profile) must be made at the side in order to not cover the light beam (round light emission opening in the middle of the sensor). Acceptable installation position Incorrect installation position Rubber profile Light emission Light emission covered Release Date: 24.01.2017 FRABA GmbH 4 / 12
When using side-by-side door systems (e.g., entry door and exit door), transmitter directions of both door systems should be pointing away from each other to avoid interference. R L L T T R T = RAY-NC-T XXXX (transmitter) R = RAY-NC-R XXXX (receiver) T L R T L R L = Light beam The lens of RAY-NC 1000 should be protected from dust and rain since soiling and damage can impair functioning. Additional safety measures may be necessary to ensure that the sensors do not fail to danger as a result of other forms of light radiation which may be present in particular application. The connection of the cables has to be made according to the specifications of the instructions of the door control system or FRABA evaluation device. Connecting the RAY-NC sensors to the evaluation device is made according to the following schematic sketch. The wires should be connected in parallel to wires of the same color. A 1 2 C 3 B A From transmitter B From receiver C To door control system or FRABA evaluation device 1 Green connecting cable 2 Brown connecting cable 3 White connecting cable The connecting cables must be protected against damage and securely laid (e.g., inside the door panel or a hollow chamber of the weather resistant housing). The cable length to the power supply connection must be no longer than 98 5 (30 m). An extension beyond 30 m is not permitted. Other devices must not be connected to the external or internal power supply of the RAY-NC 1000. Release Date: 24.01.2017 FRABA GmbH 5 / 12
