Recreation Programming The Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation Department offers various activities throughout the year. These activities include: Community Celebrations, Open Swimming at the Spratt Park Pool, Preschool Programs, Senior Citizens Program (Club 60), Summer Day Camp and Swimming Lessons. We also work with several other groups to provide programs like youth baseball and youth soccer to town residents. What additional programs would you like to see the Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation Department offer? The Recreation Department does not have indoor program facilities. This limits the programs the Department can run. Please rate your feelings about each of the following statements concerning a POSSIBLE Community Center/Indoor Program Facility. Town Parks The Town of Poughkeepsie operates 22 Town Parks. They range in size from 1/2 acre to 159 acres. Three are community parks (Red Oaks Mills, Stanley Still and Greenvale) that provide more extensive facilities for the whole town. Peach Hill Park is our Park Preserve. It has four miles of hiking trails that provide for passive recreational activities like hiking, bird watching and environmental education. The remainder are neighborhood parks that are designed to serve the needs of neighborhoods. They have limited facilities that generally include a playground and a ball field. Our neighborhood parks are: American Legion; Carriage Hill; Country Club; Crestwood; Crown Heights; Fairview; Hagantown; Hillis; New Hamburg; Overocker; Pine Echo; Riverfront; Riverview; Rochdale; Sheafe; Sunnyside; Townsend and VFW Parks. We also have with three parks owned and operated by Dutchess County in the Town of Poughkeepsie (Bowdoin Park, Quiet Cove and the Dutchess Rail Trail). How can the Town of Poughkeepsie's existing park system be improved?
