Delayed Egress System DORMA EMDE
Delayed Egress System EMDE-1000 Series Delayed Egress Systems Designed to meet NFPA Life Safety Code 101, Special Locking Arrangements, these U.L. listed, self-contained systems provide an alarm output contact for remote signaling. This feature makes these systems ideal for deterring shoplifting, employee theft, and wandering patients. The EMDE-1000 provides field-selectable verbal exiting instructions or an audible tone. The verbal instructions are field-selectable as a male voice with security message or a female voice with safety message. Instructions can be programmed by DORMA to be pronounced in two varying languages. The EMDE also contains a visual display counting down the time remaining until the door opens. The programmable language feature makes this unit ideal for use in international airports and applications worldwide. EMDE-1011MS EMDE-1011MS (single model) - For use with single doors equipped with: Mortise or rim mount exit devices Surface or concealed vertical rod exit devices Mortise or cylindrical locksets EMDE-1011MT EMDE-1011MT (tandem model) - For use on pairs of doors when activation of either door unlocks both doors equipped with: Mortise or rim exit devices with mullion Surface or concealed vertical rod exit devices; armatures and magnets are split to accommodate various latch spacing Mortise or cylindrical locksets Annunciation The EMDE-1000 Series incorporates an alternating 75 db tone and verbal message with a digital countdown display and sign that provides clear and comprehensive instructions for persons without prior knowledge of door operation. This is especially significant for those who are blind or hearing impaired. Technical Details Dual voltage 12 VDC or 24 VDC Field-selectable voice notification or tone Voice notification includes alternating voice and 75 db alarm Field-selectable male security message: Tone Exit in twelve seconds, Security has been alerted Field-selectable female safety message: Tone Exit in twelve seconds, Facility Staff has been alerted 1650 lb holding force Digital countdown display Field-selectable nuisance delay 1 or 2 seconds Selectable 15 or 30 second exit delay, may be permanently field fixed Field-selectable door movement trigger only, external device trigger only, or activation by either door movement or external device trigger Field-selectable door prop alarm Field-selectable automatic or manual power up after emergency release or power loss Can be programmed by DORMA for BOCA (Building Officials and Code Administrators) requirements 1 second nuisance, 15 second release and 30 second relock; BOCA cannot be field-modified Integrated key switch for alarm reset, power up, sustained bypass, and timed bypass. Adjustable for 1, 15, 20, or 30 seconds Single or multi-door zone control and reset capability Can be used with a panic devise using a request to exit switch (DORMA MS Switch) and thru-wired hinge Comes with the required door sign, Push until alarm sounds. Door can be opened in 15 (30) seconds. 2
Operation The exit door is normally closed, latched, and secured by the EMDE magnetic lock with the digital display showing 15 or 30 to indicate the door is secure. Applying less than 15 lb of pressure and/or releasing the door latch (accompanied with a request to exit switch) activates the nuisance timer and nuisance alarm tone. If the pressure and activation is terminated prior to the preset nuisance timer (1 or 2 seconds), the alarm stops and the digital readout returns to 15 or 30 to indicate the door is secure. When the activation exceeds the nuisance time (1 or 2 seconds), an irreversible process begins that will unlock the door in a total of 15 or 30 seconds (2 + 13 or 2 + 28). The digital readout will count down and the alarm tone and verbal instructions alternate. Male Security Message Tone Exit in twelve seconds, Security has been alerted Female Safety Message Tone Exit in twelve seconds, Facility Staff has been alerted Tone Only (in lieu of message) Activation: Short beeps Lock Release: Long beeps The door unlocks after the 15 or 30 second time has elapsed and the digital display indicates 00. The alarm tone and verbal instruction continue to alternate. The lock must be manually reset unless the LK Option is selected when ordering the product. This option allows remote reset and on/off controls. BOCA (Building Officials and Code Administrators) Operation The exit door is normally closed, latched, and secured by the EMDE magnetic lock with the digital display showing 15 to indicate the door is secure. Applying less than 15 lb of pressure and/or releasing the door latch (accompanied with a request to exit switch) activates the nuisance timer and nuisance alarm tone. If the pressure and activation is terminated prior to the preset nuisance timer (1 second), the alarm stops and the digital readout returns to 15 to indicate the door is secure. When the activation exceeds the nuisance time (1 second), an irreversible process begins that will unlock the door in a total of 15 seconds (1 +14). The digital readout will count down and the alarm tone and verbal instructions alternate. Male Security Message Tone Exit in twelve seconds, Security has been alerted Female Safety Message Tone Exit in twelve seconds, Facility Staff has been alerted Tone Only (in lieu of message) Activation: Short beeps Lock Release: Long beeps The door unlocks after the 15 (14 +1) second time has elapsed and the digital display indicates 00. The alarm tone and verbal instruction continue to alternate. The door must be opened and closed. After 30 seconds the BOCA EMDE automatically relocks and the annunciation stops. Opening the door prior to end of the relocking cycle will restart the cycle. Includes one standard 1011MS and one additional standard lock with a trigger mechanism, for pairs of doors. Pushing either door unlocks both doors in 15 or 30 seconds. Options BA - Bond Alert Sensor: Provides monitoring of proper or improper armature contact. It detects reduced holding power, tampering, dirt or foreign material between the lock and the armature, or low operating voltage. The bond alert sensor may also be internally wired to activate the egress alarm to indicate tampering, such as an attempt to apply an obstruction. Alarm reset cannot be accomplished until any obstruction is removed and full locking power is restored (two required for tandem units). DPS-101S - Door Position Sensor: Provides remote monitoring of the door open or closed status and indicates the door has actually been opened for egress after alarm activation (two required for tandem units). ATS - Anti-Tamper Switch: Detects any attempt to remove the access cover (two required for tandem units). LK - Less Key Switch: The system is provided without the standard key switch. Reset and On/Off controls may be accomplished by a remote switching such as access control, key switch, push switch, or another lock with a built-in key switch. PS - Push Switch: The standard key switch is replaced by a pushbutton switch for reset. DT - Special Delay Time: 8, 10, or 12 seconds may be specified. 15 and 30 second exit delay times are standard. PRG-BOCA - One second nuisance delay, 15 seconds exit delay, 30 seconds relock (as stated in BOCA Operations). PRG-MEA - Zero seconds nuisance delay, zero seconds exit delay. VOICE-SP - Voice instruction in Spanish. DV - Bilingual instructions for English/Spanish.
