1 Description and key features 1.1 Description The Cryovac Darfresh R275CD is one of the models (together with R175CD and R575CD) of the new generation of Multivac Darfresh packaging machines, jointly developed by Cryovac and Multivac. R275CD is designed for medium output capacity and a variety of pack sizes. Applications are typically high quality cuts of meat, processed meat, paté, fish, etc. The Darfresh process uses two films (webs) joined together to form the finished package. The edges of the lower web are gripped by chains and moved in cycles by the positioning drive, the lower web is heated and formed into trays in the forming station. The adjacent corner cutting device produces a loose edge on the pack to facilitate opening. The product is then loaded onto the formed trays either manually or automatically. The upper web is unwound and guided by chains through the pre-heating station, where it is softened by contact heat. With the next advance, both the upper and lower webs enter the skin station, the chamber is closed and evacuated. Once the upper web has been heated in the dome, it is total surface sealed to the lower web under vacuum without the formation of wrinkles. The cutting units separate the individual packs. The R275CD incorporates a memory for 200 program settings. All machine functions, temperature control, timers, etc. are controlled by microprocessors. Programming is simple and made via a soft touch control panel and LCD display. With this latest generation of machines special attention has been given to a perfect hygienic design both outside and inside the machine. All critical parts are treated against the corrosive environment often found in food production and packaging rooms. Designed with ergonomics, safety and hygiene in mind it is easy to use and clean, simple to maintain and meets all relevant European legislation for safety and hygiene. 1. The air in the sealing die and pack is evacuated. The preheated top web clings to the dome, is further heated and becomes flexible. 2. Soft ventilation lets the film slide into gaps and spaces. Full ventilation creates pressure, the bottom and top web are sealed to each other. 3. The dome opens. The top web covers the product skintight. Top and bottom web are sealed all around the product over the whole surface. 1.2 Key features The Darfresh films are available with different specifications to suit all skin packaging applications (see 3.4.1 Film details, page 5). Easy-peel corner for consumer convenience Total surface sealing prevents juice migration and keeps surface decoration in place Stainless steel modular frame Hygienic design makes cleaning easy and effective Good access for maintenance Robust high quality build standard using food approved materials throughout Utilises well proven and reliable mechanical systems 2
