2016 District 5 Annual General Meeting Saturday, April, 23, 2016-9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The East York Garden Club is pleased to host the 2016 OHA District 5 AGM. The day includes two speakers, a flower show, a lunch featuring a selection of sandwiches, salads and desserts, door prizes and theme gift baskets, and the opportunity to mingle and chat with fellow gardeners and horticultural society members from across District 5. All of this for only $30. Registration forms are enclosed. Please be sure to indicate special dietary needs and designate those members who are voting delegates. Registrations received by Saturday, March 5 will be eligible for a special Early Bird Prize of $100. The deadline for receipt of all registrations is Friday, April 8. No registrations will be accepted at the door. Those attending are asked to check in at the registration desk between 8:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. The meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis. Door Prizes Each registrant s name will be entered in a draw for a door prize. Each Society is asked to bring a gift that matches the sense assigned to it in the list below. The item should be valued at approximately $30 to $40. Please attach the enclosed theme-tag to your gift. Door prizes will be awarded at various times during the day. The Kursa Hall will open at 7:00 a.m. for floral designers. Horticultural and design entries will be accepted between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. sharp, and may be removed after 3:00 p.m. Each Society is invited to submit a yearbook, newsletter or any other printed material for the annual competition. Entries must be received no later than the District 5 Presidents Meeting, to be held on Saturday, March 5 to allow appropriate time for judging. 2016 District 5 Annual General Meeting Saturday, April 23, 2016-9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Our Speakers: Margaret Nevett Margaret Nevett s interest in horticulture became a passion when she joined the Toronto Master Gardeners in 1992. She developed her skills and knowledge through studies in horticulture at the University of Guelph, a garden design master class with international garden designer John Brookes, as well as Horticultural Therapy training in Ontario and British Columbia. Margaret is a Registered Horticultural Therapist. Her company, Gardening For Life, provides Horticultural Therapy consultation and individualized programs in long term care and rehabilitation facilities. In 2014 she created and developed a Horticultural Therapy Certificate program now available at the Toronto Botanical Garden. Margaret is dedicated to helping gardeners of all abilities keep gardening for life. Margaret s talk will be called Gardening for life...finding the nature prescription in your garden! David Hobson David Hobson is a humorist, storyteller, and weekly garden columnist for The Waterloo Region Record and The Guelph Mercury, a contributor to Grand Magazine, and the creator of the Garden Humour Website. He has also written for Canadian Gardening magazine and Garden Making magazine, and is the author of Diary of a Mad Gardener, a year in the life of a passionate, obsessive, and absolutely mad gardener. A lifelong gardener, David happily shares his passion speaking to many horticultural societies and gardening groups, over the fence to neighbours, innocent bystanders, in fact anyone who will listen. He has spoken at venues such as Canada Blooms, The Canadian National Exhibition, and The International Home and Garden Show. David will speaking about The most important sense for a gardener a sense of humour (a look at the lighter side of gardening). Page 3 of 6
