A. Safety Instructions I. Basic Assembly and Operation IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS APPLIANCE WARNING: The manufacturer cannot accept responsibility for damage caused when the appliance is not used according to the instructions, or for uses other than those for which it was intended. To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury: DO NOT plug the heater into any other cord connected device such as a power strip, surge protector, multiple outlet adapter, grounding adapter, outlet-type air fresheners or extension cords. Plug into a 3-prong, 120V 15 amp or higher grounded circuit receptacle only. DO NOT plug the heater into a loose fitting or broken receptacle. DO NOT alter the heater s design or you will void the warranty. DO NOT block the front or rear of the heater. DO NOT place anything directly in front of the heater. DO NOT cover the unit as this may block airflow and cause the heater to malfunction. DO NOT use the heater outdoors or in construction sites. DO NOT force the filter to dry using any alternative methods when performing filter maintenance, doing so could damage the filter. DO NOT run the power cord under carpeting. DO NOT cover the power cord with throw rugs, runners or similar coverings. Arrange the cord away from traffic areas and where it will not be tripped over. DO NOT insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater. DO NOT operate this heater with a damaged cord or plug or after the heater malfunctions, has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Return heater to an authorized retailer for examination, electrical or mechanical adjustment or repair. DO NOT use this heater in areas where gasoline, paint or flammable liquids are used or stored. A heater has hot or arcing parts inside. 3 This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Always unplug this heater when it is not in use. To disconnect the heater, turn controls to off then remove plug from the outlet. To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces, like a bed where openings may become blocked. Keep combustible materials such as furniture, pillows, bedding, clothes, curtains and paper at least 3 feet from the front of the heater and keep them away from the sides and the rear. Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electrical shock or injury to persons. Avoid the use of an extension cord because the extension cord may overheat and cause a risk of fire. This heater is for use on 120 volt grounded outlets. An adapter should not be used. This heater must be located near a socket outlet. Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or invalids and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended. This heater is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas and similar indoor locations. Never locate the heater where it may fall into a bathtub, shower, swimming pool or other water container. I. Basic Assembly and Operation B. Grounding Instructions This heater must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This heater is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. This heater is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit and has a grounding attachment plug that looks like the plug illustrated in Figure B. Grounding. Make sure that the heater is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adapter should be used with this heater. Figure B. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the heater. If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. C. General Performance Keep machine and all accessories clean and in good operating condition. Clean or change filters as recommended to maintain optimum performance and efficiency. Always use genuine filters and parts, as use of other products may result in poor performance. Tacony filtration products are designed for maximum performance. Have machine checked periodically by the retailer Store machine carefully in dry area. Page 3

I. Basic Assembly and Operation E. Easy Removal of Quick Connect Leads Simplicity heaters use UL approved wire connectors for a secure fit. These connectors can be difficult to separate when performing maintenance. Follow the steps below to easily separate tight connectors. 1. You will need two pairs of needle nose pliers. Grasp each of the connectors in the grips of the pliers behind the fulcrum as shown in. 2. Press the tips of the pliers together to separate the connectors as shown in. Page 6

A. Calibrating the Thermostat II. Cabinet and Control Panel Note: Allow time for the heater to adjust to the temperature of the room if it has just been moved from a colder or warmer environment than the current room temperature. 1. Remove the cover from the thermostat by grasping the sides and gently pulling out (Fig.. A.) 2. Remove the knob from the thermostat dial (.) 3. Slowly turn the thermostat dial to the left until it clicks (Fig. C.) 4. Then slowly turn the dial to the right until it clicks Fig. C.) 5. Turn the dial to the approximate middle of the clicks which should be the temperature of the room. 6. Place the knob inside the cover with the indicator line pointing at the correct room temperature. It is important to have an accurate reading of the temperature in the room. Align the knob with the thermostat dial and snap the knob back onto the dial (Fig. D.) 7. Replace the thermostat cover. B. Removing the Cabinet (RSBH) II. Cabinet and Control Panel 1. Remove the two screws from each side of the louver. They are located between the vents as shown in. Remove the louver. 2. Remove the filter by grasping and pulling it free (.) 3. Flip the heater upside down and set it on its top. Look in through the filter opening. Remove the two screws holding the control panel L bracket (Fig. C.) Remove the L bracket (Fig. D.) Continued on next page. Fig. C Fig. D Page 8

II. Cabinet and Control Panel B. Removing the Cabinet (RSBH) continued 4. Remove the two screws from each side of the wiring tray (Fig. D.) 5. Grasp wiring tray, and turn it as shown in Fig. F and G to pull it out through the opening in the bottom of the heater. It may be necessary to bend the sides of the bracket slightly with pliers to get enough clearance. 6. The thermostat wiring should now be exposed. Grasp the sides of the thermostat connection plug and squeeze while pulling to disconnect it (Fig. H.) Continued on next page. Fig. E Fig. F Fig. G Fig. H Page 9

II. Cabinet and Control Panel B. Removing the Cabinet (RSBH) continued 7. Remove the six bottom cabinet screws using a T-20 torx bit (Fig. I and J.) 8. Grasp the heater by the wheels and lift the heater out of the cabinet (Fig. K. and L.) Set cabinet aside. NOTE: When reinstalling heater into cabinet check that all wheels spin 360 degrees without hitting the legs before reinserting screws. Fig. I Fig. J Fig. K Fig. L Page 10

C. Removing the Cabinet (RSBH-SB) 1. Flip the heater over with the vent side down as shown in Figure A. 2. Each wheel has one screw next to it securing the heater to the cabinet () Remove the four screws. 3. Remove the filter and grasp the heater control panel. Slide the heater out of the cabinet (Fig. C and D.) Fig. C Fig. D Page 11

D. Accessing the Control Panel (RSBH-SB) 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown on page 11. 2. Use a small flat screwdriver to pry off the four screw cover caps () 3. Remove the four screws holding the panel in place (.) 4. You can now access the wiring to the on/off switch, the thermostat, and the circuit breaker (Fig. C.) Fig. C Page 12

E. Replacing the on/off Switch II. Cabinet and Control Panel 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Locate the switch wiring inside the control panel mounted in the cabinet (.) 3. Remove the three connectors from the back of the switch by squeezing with the needle nose pliers () 4. Use a flat screwdriver or pliers to squeeze the switch tabs in while pushing the switch out through the front of the panel (Fig. C and D.) 5. Push new switch into the panel from the outside and reconnect the leads. For wiring help see the diagrams on page 35 through 36. Fig. C Fig. D Page 13

F. Replacing the Circuit Breaker II. Cabinet and Control Panel 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Locate the circuit breaker and wiring inside the control panel mounted in the cabinet (.) 3. Remove the two connectors from the back of the circuit breaker by squeezing with the needle nose pliers () 4. Grasp the retaining nut on the outside of the circuit breaker with needle nose pliers or fingers and unscrew it from the breaker (Fig. C.) Remove breaker from the inside. 5. Install new breaker from the inside and secure retaining nut on the outside. Reattach leads. For wiring help see the diagrams on page 35 and 36. Fig. C Page 14

G. Replacing the Thermostat (Dial) II. Cabinet and Control Panel 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the thermostat cover (.) 3. Locate the thermostat wiring inside the control panel. 4. Disconnect the leads to the thermostat using two sets of needle nose pliers. See page 6 for easy disconnect instructions. 5. Use a 5/16 socket to hold the first nut on the back of the thermostat while unscrewing the screw on the front. Repeat with the second nut and screw. (.) Remove the thermostat. 6. Install the new thermostat from the outside and secure with the nuts and screws. 7. Reconnect the thermostat leads. For wiring help see the diagrams on page 35 and 36. Page 15

II. Cabinet and Control Panel H. Replacing the Thermostat (Programmable) 1. Remove the control panel as shown on page 12 Section D. Accessing the Control Panel (SCHH-SB.) 2. Loosen the thermostat cover screw located on the bottom of the thermostat (.) 3. Remove the thermostat cover (.) 4. Disconnect the leads to the thermostat. See page 6 for easy disconnect instructions. 5. Use a 5/16 socket or needle nose pliers to hold the first nut on the back of the thermostat while removing the screw on the front. Repeat with the second nut and screw. (Fig. D.) Remove the thermostat. 6. Install the new thermostat from the outside and secure with the nuts and screws. Be sure to secure the ground wires as well. 7. Reconnect the thermostat leads. For wiring help see the diagram on page 36. Fig. C Fig. D Page 16

I. Replacing the Indicator Light (RSBH) II. Cabinet and Control Panel. 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Flip the cabinet upside down and locate the indicator enclosure. Remove the two screws from the indicator enclosure cover and slide the cover off. ( and B.) 3. Disconnect the indicator leads using needle nosed pliers. See page 6 for easy disconnect instructions. 4. Push the indicator out from the inside. (Fig. C) 5. Remove indicator. (Fig. D) 6. Insert new indicator from outside in. (Fig. D) 7. Reconnect the leads and coil the wires back into the indicator enclosure. () 8. Slide the indicator enclosure into place and reinstall enclosure screws. () Fig. C Fig. D Page 17

II. Cabinet and Control Panel J. Replacing the Control Panel Wire Harness (RSBH) 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the two screws from the indicator enclosure cover. () 3. Slide indicator enclosure cover out and remove. () 4. Disconnect indicator leads (Fig. C.) See page 6 for easy disconnect instructions. Slide the wire harness through the grommet in the indicator enclosure. Push one connector through at a time. 5. Remove the screws from the two harness retainers. II. Cabinet and Control Panel J. Replacing the Control Panel Wire Harness Continued (RSBH) 6. Disconnect the leads from the circuit breaker, on/off switch, and thermostat. (Fig. E.) 7. Remove the grounding screw. (Fig. F) 8. Pull the wire through the rubber grommet. (Fig. G) Push the wire connectors up through the grommet one at a time. (Fig. H.) 9. Run the new control panel harness through the grommet one wire at a time and then pull it through to the indicator light. 10. Reinstall the harness retainers and fasten them back to the cabinet as shown in Fig. D on the previous page. 11. Reconnect the leads to the indicator, circuit breaker, on/off switch, and thermostat. II. Cabinet and Control Panel K. Replacing the Indicator Light (RSBH-SB) 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. The indicator light is mounted on one side of the vent. Remove the screw on top of the indicator mount (.) 3. Remove the screw on the bottom side of the indicator mount () 4. Remove the ground screw located on the outer wall of the heater underneath the indicator mount (Fig. C.) 5. Disconnect the leads to the indicator light. See page 6 for easy disconnect instructions. Use needle nose pliers to squeeze the tabs on the indicator light while pushing it out through the bracket (Fig. D) 6. Insert new indicator from outside in. 7. Reconnect the leads and coil the wires back into the indicator enclosure. Secure the ground screw to the heater wall and reinstall the indicator mount using the two screws. Fig. C Fig. D Page 20

II. Cabinet and Control Panel L Replacing the Control Panel Wire Harness (RSBH-SB) 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the indicator light from the harness as shown on page 20. 3. Push the harness through the two rubber grommets in the indicator mount enclosure one wire at a time (.) 4. Locate the harness retainer clip (.) Secure the nut on the inside with needle nose pliers and remove the screw from the outside of the heater (Fig. C.) 5. Push the harness through the final opening in the wall of the heater one wire at a time (Fig. D.) Continued on next page. Fig. C Fig. D Page 21

II. Cabinet and Control Panel L. Replacing the Control Panel Wire Harness Continued (RSBH-SB) 6. Disconnect the leads from the circuit breaker, on/off switch, and thermostat. (Fig. E.) See page 6 for easy disconnect instructions. 7. Remove the grounding screw and nut. (Fig. F) 8. Run the new control panel harness through the grommet one wire at a time and then pull it through to the indicator light. 9. Reinstall the harness retainer clip and fasten it to the inside of the heater wall using the screw and nut (Fig. G.) 10. Reconnect the leads to the indicator, circuit breaker, on/off switch, and thermostat (Fig. H.) Be sure to reattach the ground wire with the grounding screw and nut. A. Accessing the internal compartment III. Internal Compartment 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the five screws holding the top of the metal compartment. There are two on each long side and one in the middle of the side with the thermostat connector (.) 3. Gently pry the top up using a small flat screwdriver. ( and C.) 4. Remove the heater top and set aside to access the internal compartment (Fig. D.) WARNING: The heater top and sides have may have sharp edges. Use caution when handling or working around these parts. Fig. C Fig. D Page 23

B. Removing the Back Panel III. Internal Compartment Removing the back panel allows for easier access to the internal components of the heater and is necessary to replace some components. WARNING: The edges of the heater panels can be sharp. Use caution when handling. 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23. 2. Remove the 6 screws from the panel. There are 3 on each side. () 3. Use needle nose pliers or a flat screwdriver to squeeze the tabs on the sides of the internal harness connector and push it in through the panel. (Fib. B) 4. Pull up on the panel and let it drop to the side. (Fig. C and D.) Fig. C Fig. D Page 24

C. Replacing the Tilt Switch III. Internal Compartment 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23. 3. Remove the two screws securing the tilt switch to the heater wall. () 4. Disconnect the leads by squeezing the backs of the connectors with needle nose pliers and pulling. 5. Reconnect leads securely to the new tilt switch and secure the new tilt switch to the heater wall. 6. For wiring help see the diagram on page 37. Page 25

D. Replacing the Relay III. Internal Compartment 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23. 3. Remove the connectors using needle nose pliers. 4. Remove the two screws securing the relay to the heater wall. () 5. Secure the new relay to the wall using the two screws. 6. Reconnect the wire leads. Be sure the connectors are plugged in all the way. () 7. For wiring help see the diagram on page 37. Page 26

E. Replacing the Power Cord III. Internal Compartment 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23. 3. Remove the back panel as shown in Section III, B, on page 24. 4. Pull the 5 heyco cable ties from the side panels and cut them off of the wires.(, and B.) 5. Disconnect the black and white wires from the power cord using the two sets of needle nosed pliers. Refer to the technique used on page 7. Free the ground wire by removing the screw. (Fig. C) 6. Pull on the heyco cord strain relief from the outside of the panel while squeezing the wings with pliers on the inside. Slide the cord through the washer and out through the panel.(fig.d) 7. Insert the new power cord with heyco strain relief from the outside of the panel. Slide the washer on the new cord from the inside and secure it against the panel. 8. Reconnect the black and white wires as they were before and tighten down the ground wire. 9. Replace the 5 heyco cable ties around the wires and secure them to the heater. Fig. C Fig. D Page 27

F. Replacing the Fan Thermostat III. Internal Compartment 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23. 3. Remove the thermostat connectors by squeezing them with needle nose pliers and pulling () 4. Remove two screws securing thermostat. 5. Install new fan thermostat by connecting the leads and using the two screws to secure it to the heater panel. 6. For wiring help see the diagram on page 37. Page 28

G. Replacing the Main Wire Harness III. Internal Compartment 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23. 3. Remove the back panel as shown in Section III, B, on page 24 4. Cut the 3 heyco cable ties that secure the main harness to the side of the heater wall. () 5. Disconnect the main harness from the relay, tilt switch, cross blow fan, and fan thermostat. NOTE: It is best to connect each lead from the new harness as the old ones are disconnected. 6. Remove the 3 grounding screws and the two screws securing the leads to the element. () 7. Remove the two screws securing the thermal fuse hold down.. (Fig.C) 8. If not done already, connect all new harness leads to the components. (Fig. D) 6. For wiring help see the diagram on page 37. The six pin connector must be installed in the back panel so that it lines up with the mating connector from the control panel harness. 9. Secure the wire harness to the heater wall using new heyco cable ties. Fig. C Fig. D Page 29

H. Removing the left side panel III. Internal Compartment Removing the left side panel will allow you to access the cross flow blower and the element. 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23. 3. Remove the back panel as shown in Section III, B, on page 24 4. Remove 14 screws from long edge of the side panel () and 6 from the vent side () for 19 screws total. 5. Grasp panel and remove it from heater. (Fig. C) WARNING: The heater top and sides have may have sharp edges. Use caution when handling or working around these parts. Fig. C Page 30

I. Replacing the Crossflow Blower III. Internal Compartment 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23.. 3. Remove the back panel as shown in Section III, B, on page 24 4. Remove the left side panel as shown in Section III, H,on page 30. 5 Remove the screw securing the ground wire to the blower. () 6. Remove the black and white connectors from the blower. () 7 Remove the two screws (one on each side) securing the blower mounts to the panel. (Fig. C.) 8. Remove the two screws (one on each side) securing the mounts to the blower as shown in Fig. D. 9. Reattach mounts to new cross flow blower. Use one screw on each side to secure the mounts to the heater wall. 10. Connect the leads to the new blower fan as shown in and secure the ground wire 11. Reassemble unit by reversing steps 1 through 4 Fig. C Fig. D Page 31

J. Replacing the Element III. Internal Compartment 1. Remove the heater from the cabinet as shown in Section II, B and C, on pages 8 through 11. 2. Remove the top panel as shown in Section III, A, on page 23. 3. Remove the back panel as shown in Section III, B, on page 24 4. Remove the left side panel as shown in Section III, H,on page 30. 5. Remove the two screws securing the tilt switch, and the two screws securing the relay to the mounting panel. () This is necessary to access one of the element power wire screws. 6. Carefully remove the two screws securing the power wires to the element. If possible hold the connector using needle nose pliers to prevent damaging the element pin. () 7. Remove the two nuts and washers securing the element to the inner wall using an 11\16 wrench. (Fig. C) 8. Carefully remove the element through the open side panel. (Fig. D) 9. IV. Troubleshooting 1. The heater will not blow any air. The indicator light is on. Possible Cause Thermostat is set below current room temperature. The element is still heating up. The thermostat is out of calibration. The in-line thermal fuse is blown. Faulty tip switch or relay. Element is not heating up. Solution Set thermostat above current room temperature. Allow two minutes for the air inside the heater to warm. At that time the fan will begin to operate. Calibrate the thermostat according to the instructions in Section II, A, on page 7. If the heater is not warming up at all but the indicator light is on the in-line thermal fuse could be blown. Check the fuse and replace the wire harness if necessary. If the in-line fuse is still intact, check the relay and tip switch and replace if necessary. Check element. Replace if necessary. NOTE: The element used in this heater should have a life of 10 years or longer. Do not change the element unless all other components have been eliminated. 4. The programmable thermostat display doesn t light up. Possible Cause The switch is set to Standby mode. Solution Slide the On/Standby switch to On. Page 33

IV. Troubleshooting The heater will not turn on. The indicator light does not light up. Possible Cause Inadequete power source The circuit breaker has tripped. Solution Make sure the heater is plugged directly into an unused, grounded 120 volt, 15 amps or higher circuit receptacle. Check the breaker. If it has trippied, turn the heater off and unplug it from the power sources. Press the circuit breaker button to reset it. Plug the heater back in and turn it on. If the breaker trips a second time check the heater componatns for an electrical short. The power cord is damaged or faulty. Check the power cord for damage and continuity. Replace if necessary.
