4 Before the installation I-WARM Heating Mats Before I-WARM system installations please, make sure that you chose the system suitable for your premise and desired type of heating (main or comfort heating). 4.1 Heating mat placement It is recommend to lay heating sections on the subfloor area free from fixed furniture. Place heating mats in the usable area: where you walk, where heat radiation is effective. To fit mat to the heated area configuration it is necessary to cut mesh into fragments. When cutting take care not to cut or damage the heating cable. Never allow strips of mesh to overlap. Never use one and the same mat for heating different types of premises (e.g. bathroom, hallway or kitchen). It is not recommended to use the same mat for heating premises with different floor constructions. For this purpose independent mats should be installed along with the thermostats. If it is necessary to heat balcony, terrace, interior garden, premises with many windows, open doorways, archways, premises with ceilings over 4 meter high, please, consult our manager who will offer you suitable system to heat the premise required. Heating mat placement example: 1. Heating area size estimation. Estimate heating area size and pick up adequate heating mat. Adjust mat to the heating area configuration. 2. First mat mesh cutting. 3. 90 mat turn. 4. Second mat mesh cutting. 9

5. 180 mat flip. 6. Heating mat after installation. Please, make sure that an existing in your premise electrical wiring can power I-WARM system. Please refer to paragraph 10.3 of the present instruction to see the amperage load for I-WARM heating systems. Take into consideration additional electrical appliances which can be energized by the same circuit. Also specify amperage load of your safety devices. 4.2 Electrical wiring and thermostat placement According to Electric Installation Code (edition of 2001) standard electrical wiring withstands the following currents and appropriate power loads (table 1): It is recommended to use a separate circuit and separate safety device to power I-WARM heating systems with power over 2kW. I-WARM systems are to be connected via Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) which actuating rated current doesn't exceed 30 ma. This is a small device mounted on the panelboard which controls safety of your equipment thermal insulation. When mat is installed in damp premises (bathrooms, saunas, swimming pools), heating mat screen must be connected to earthing lead of supply network. To this wire must be connected all available metal parts: metal shower trays, metal frames of shower cabins, etc. Conductor material Copper Aluminium Таble 1 Cross Max. load section, current mm 2 A, Max. total load power kw, 2 x 1. 0 2 x 1. 5 2 x 2. 5 2 x 2. 5 2 x 4. 0 16 19 27 20 28 35. 41. 59. 44. 61. 5 I-WARM system installation Using this Manual you can install I-WARM heating system by yourself. We strongly recommend to entrust connection and powering to a qualified electrician. High quality installation and connection of the system ensuring its warranty period can be performed by skilled specialists. Remember that heating system durability is 99% dependent upon its installation quality. Here you will find description and illustration of ultra-thin heating mat installation process. If you need to heat a non - standard premise, please consult our manager. Step by step I-WARM heating system installation: 1. Prepare the space on the wall for thermostat mounting. 2. Chisel out channels for power supply wires, mat cold leads and temperature sensor in the wall. 3. Chisel out 20x20mm long channel in the subfloor for floor sensor with connection wire placed in the corrugated tube. 4. Subfloor preparation: the floor should be even, secure, flex-free, with appropriate bearing capacity. The surface must be dry, clean and free of grease, dust and sharp pieces. 5. Place temperature sensor into the tube, which is included in the I-WARM heating kit. The sensor must be placed inside the tube close to its end. Its connecting wire must be exposed from the opposite end of the tube. The end of the tube with the sensor must be sealed to avoid ingress of cement mortar inside. Place the tube with sensor in the chiseled channel and lead to the thermostat or to the terminal box. Tube bending radius must be 5cm minimum. When corrugated tube is affixed to the wall and the floor, make sure that the sensor floats inside the tube. For this partially pull out and then insert back sensor connection wire. This installation method allows sensor replacement without removing flooring material. Attention: The tube end with sensor connection wire should ends at terminal box or thermostat, otherwise it will be impossible to replace sensor without removing floor covering. 11

6. Fill in chiseled channels with tile adhesive or grout. 7. Mark out area on the subfloor where the sensor will be fitted. 10. For single-conductor mat it is necessary to put cold leads to the thermostat via channels chiseled in the wall. Make sure there are no wire breakoffs. To check the heating mat and temperature sensor was not damaged during the installation resistance reading of heating mat and temperature sensor should be taken. This reading should conform to their passport data. 8. It is recommended to prime the subfloor with deepened grounding solution. Intensive absorbing surfaces should be primed twice. Let the surface get dry. МH 9. Lay heating mat with mesh adhesive downside on the subfloor. Make sure that floor temperature sensor is centered between two heater wires. For double-conductor mat it is necessary to put cold lead to the thermostat via channel chiseled in the wall. Make sure there are no wire breakoffs. To check the heating mat and temperature sensor was not damaged during the installation resistance reading of heating mat and temperature sensor should be taken. This reading should conform to their passport data. 11. Sketch on the premise plan the diagram of heating mat, couplings and temperature sensor location. 12

heating mat, temperature sensor connection wires in corrugated tube to the thermostat. МHH 12. Pour tile adhesive solution onto the mat leveling the solution from 5 8 mm and let it get dry according to the manual of preparation and application of tile adhesive used. We recommend using tile adhesive for underfloor heating systems. Its preparation and application instructions are given in paragraph 10.4. 13. When tile adhesive is dry it is necessary to check whether heating mat or temperature sensor was damaged during installation, resistance reading of heating mat and temperature sensor should be taken. This reading should conform to their passport data. 14. According to Technical Certificates of mat and thermostat connect thermostat to the heating mat, and to temperature sensor; connect electric power to the thermostat; perform earthing. 15. Fill in with tile adhesive channels chiseled in the wall which leads connection wires, earth circuit, cold leads of the 16. Lay ceramic tile using new prepared adhesive solution. Maximum thermal resistance between heating mat and the premise produced by adhesive layer and ceramic tile should not exceed 0.06 m 2 K/W. Ceramic tile covering thickness shall be 5 mm minimum. 17. When tile adhesive solution is fully dry I-WARM ultra-thin underfloor system is ready for operation. Turn it on following instructions of thermostat manual. Drying tile adhesive solution time is determined by instruction manual of tile adhesive used. Tiling directly onto the heating mat is possible. Be careful not to damage the heating cable. Adhesive layer thickness shall be 8 mm minimum. Heating mat shall be installed minimum 100 mm away from other heating appliances, e.g. risers and tubes of water heating system. 13

6 System switching and operation I-WARM underfloor heating system can be turned on when tile adhesive is fully dry. Switch the thermostat on and set the desired level of heating, using instructions of its Technical Certificate. During the first turning on of underfloor heating system you can set the maximum heating level. It will accelerate floor heating. When the temperature gets to comfort level, reduce heating level as desired. When the system is turned on for the first time, the «warm floor» feeling will appear in some period of time. Mainly it concerns new build unheated premises. Please do not worry and let the system heat your premise. Bear in mind that I-WARM underfloor heating system refers to comfortable heating type, it might not have enough power to heat cold premise when basic heating system is off. 7 Hints and notes Due to automatic temperature regulation I-WARM system consumes exactly as much energy as it is necessary to maintain comfort level of heating. Thermostats installed in each room control heating independently that allows energy saving. I WARM 720 is a programmable thermostat which especially allows energy saving for it automatically reduces or turns off heating when it is not necessary. The thermostat is more profitable in case of double-rate payment. If your premise stays empty in the cold season it is recommended not to turn off the system completely setting the thermostat on the minimal level. In this case the power consumption will be minimal and the room will not be chilled completely so you could heat it quickly upon return. Correct choice of I-WARM underfloor heating system will allow you to reduce heating costs up to 50%. Heating mat must be placed minimum 30mm away from walls, fixed furniture or other items preventing effective heat radiation. During heating mat installation avoid direct contact with thermal insulation if it is of corrosive, hygroscopic, or flammable type. During the installation heating mat should not be exposed to oil, lubricant or similar substance influence. Braided shield of the mat cold lead must be securely connected to earthing terminal in the junction box or to adequate thermostat terminal. To avoid mechanical damage of the heating mat perform installation wearing soft elastic sole shoes or cover the mat surface with plywood boards or other material preventing heating cable damage when walking on it. Minimum mat installation temperature is -5 C. 14

8 Your safety Do not change mat configuration made by manufacturer apart from mesh cutting during installation. Do not replace cold leads breaking sealed coupling connections made by manufacturer. Do not alter thermostat design. Never turn on rolled up heating mats even for a short period of time. Never plug heating mats to power supply with voltage different from operating voltage stipulated in Technical Certificate, marking or packaging. Never perform thermostat installation and repairing with ON power supply. Use a qualified installer. Never use heating mats without minimum tile adhesive layer which covers heating cable completely. Pour adhesive solution onto heating mat leveling it evenly along the total surface. Avoid air gaps near heating cable which prevent heat radiation. Floor sensor installation shall be done in the way which allows its further replacement without removing flooring material (See paragraph 5). Do not cover floor surface where heating mat is installed with any thermal isolation materials (carpets, blankets et.c.). Do not hammer nails, dowels or screw into the floor surface where heating mat is installed. Violation of any enlisted requirements will invalidate your warranty. 15

10 Appendix 10.1 Expansion joints Do not install heating cable through an expansion joint. Heating cable should be installed right up to the joint, if necessary, but do not bridge the joint. 3 4 1 subfloor 2 expansion joint 3, 4 heating mats 2 1 10.2 Thermal insulation Taking into account that the design of I-WARM underfloor heating system does not imply arrangement of cement-sand layer 3 5 cm thick, direct laying of the heating mat on thermal insulation is not recommended, because in this case thin layer of tile adhesive covering the mat can crack with heat. The base on which the mat is installed must be solid and be of sufficient bearing capacity. 20

10.4 Recommendations on preparation and application of tile adhesive for underfloor heating mats Subfloor preparation Make sure the floor is clean, secure and free from dust, grease and et.c. Fill in all cracks and holes in the floor surface. It is necessary to prime clean surface using brush or roller. Minimum subfloor temperature should be +5 С. Underfloor Heating System Construction Place heating mat and temperature sensor on the prepared surface according to the Underfloor heating system Instruction Manual. Adhesive solution preparation Pour dry mixture to the vessel with clean water according to the requirements of dry mixture manufacturer and mix it thoroughly using construction mixer until smooth. Let it cure and mix it again according to the requirements of dry mixture manufacturer. Do not add other components to the mixture! Unclean vessels and tools reduce material time of use! Underfloor heating system grouting First option (Tiling of subfloor with heating mat installed) Apply in small portions prepared adhesive solution to the subfloor with laid heating mat spreading solution with a tipped trowel. Lay the tile on the spot and sunk it into the adhesive with a slight touch. Be careful not to damage heating cable. Tile adhesive shall cover heating mat fully and be in tight, air-void free contact with tile surface. Tile shall not touch heating cable or lean on it. Tile adhesive layer thickness shall be 8 10mm. Second option (Primary protective layer construction) Pour self-leveling floor onto the mat to a thickness of 5 8 mm according to the instruction manual for preparation of this modified adhesive solution. This interlayer shall cover the mat completely with no air voids, heating mat shall not float up, heating cable shall be buried in this layer. When covering layer cures (curing time should be specified by dry mixture manufacturer) prime the foundation and then perform tiling using prepared tile adhesive solution to a thickness of 5 10mm. Important Notes During application and curing of tile adhesive, ambient temperature shall be from +5 C to +25 C. Make sure there are no draughts in the working room. Underfloor heating system can be turned on only when tile adhesive is fully cured. 23
