Program Leadership Interns will work under varying representatives from each facility as they rotate through the program s disciplines, ultimately reporting to key leadership including Kunso Kim, Vice President of Gardens at Powell Gardens and James Burrow, Unity Village s Golf Course Superintendent and site manager for the program. JAMES BURROW James Burrow, has been involved in the golf course maintenance field for 20 years. He started his career in Kansas City at Tiffany Greens Golf Club, working there from 1998-2006. Through this opportunity, he learned about golf course construction and bent grass, greens maintenance in the transition zone. He was also involved in the Champions Tour events hosted at the club for several years. He has worked at The Amarillo Country Club as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, gaining experience at a high-end country club with high standards. He has worked for Leibold Irrigation, learning how to install golf course irrigation systems and the ins and outs of golf course construction. For the past 9 years, he has been a golf course superintendent managing both warm and cool season turf grasses for country clubs. KUNSO KIM Raised in Chollipo, a rural seaside village in South Korea, Kunso Kim s interest in the world of plants began at an early age as he familiarized himself with native species in the mountains surrounding his home. However, it wasn t until he began work at the nearby Chollipo Arboretum that he considered a career in Horticulture. This opportunity fueled his interest in horticulture and inspired him to apply to the international horticultural internship program. After a yearlong internship at Longwood Garden in Kennett Square, PA and another at Savill Garden in the Crown Estate, England, he returned to Chollipo Arboretum. While working at Chollipo, his desire to learn about public garden management on a deeper level, grew. He applied for the Longwood Graduate Program at the University of Delaware and was accepted with a full scholarship. This program was well-known for its mission to train leaders in public garden management. After finishing the fellowship program, Kunso began working with the Norfolk Botanical Garden in Norfolk, VA and eventually landed at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. In 2014 he was given an opportunity to lead the implementation of a horticultural master plan for Everland theme park at Samsung C&T Corporation in South Korea, where he stayed for three years. He joined Powell Gardens as Vice President of Gardens in January of 2018.
