BLUEJACK BUILDERS Kitchens: $75,000 up to $125,000 Edina
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: For this young and modern couple, finding a new house in their desired neighborhood was not the problem. However the house they purchased was dated and worn down, left alone, and ill equipped for day-to-day living and entertaining purposes that the homeowners envisioned for themselves and their lifestyle. The down side of this 1969 two story home, besides the original finishes, was that it was segmented and divided into a layout that cut everything off from each other, providing no feel of conviviality the way the homeowners desired. The existing floor plan consisted of a centrally located kitchen in the rear of the house with a separated dining room, and an extra sit-in eating area adjoining the kitchen on the other side, with no connection or openness in any practical manner to the living room. There was no direct access to the backyard patio space from the kitchen, making any type of outside entertainment inconvenient. Bluejack Builders understood the homeowners needs and wants and conceptualized and designed the new layout which provides the style, taste, and the much-needed functionality for the homeowners. The first step in achieving the open floor concept, was to swap the position of the kitchen and dining room, relocating the kitchen to the rear corner of the house causing it to line up perfectly with the front living room, allowing for the center dividing wall to be opened up to create an opening between the two spaces. Connected to the other side of the kitchen is an open dining room, with beautiful three quarter height paneling, finely enameled in a dirty white, creating the perfect contrast for the homeowners choice of wallpaper Featured in the kitchen is a fantastically sized center island made from beautifully stained maple wood, giving perfect contrast to the white enameled custom cabinetry that lines two of the surrounding perimeter walls. Detail in the island included a built in wine fridge, bookshelves on adjacent ends, and even an area for two dog bowls at floor level for the family pets.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: continued Granite counters in contrasting shades, clear glass cabinet doors showing tile running up the back of the cabinetry, with a centered built in hood vent with an arched top, a traditional style farmhouse sink, new stainless appliances, a simple but effective backsplash, and new walnut wood floors unify the new spaces and underline the incredible design. For the homeowners, who now had the perfect layout for their new property designed by Bluejack Builders; the next step was the selection of the different fixtures and finishes. The homeowners, having a history in design were very confident and sure of the direction they wanted. With the design guidance from Bluejack Builders, the homeowners were able to effectively choose all their selections and finishes from the beautiful tile, to the calming colors, to the unique light fixtures, in perfect form for the space. Through the new redesign, Bluejack Builders created an entirely new feel appropriate for the young hip couple who were left incredibly happy.
FLOOR PLAN: before
FLOOR PLAN: after
BEFORE PHOTO: #1 A great kitchen for many with newer updates, but functionally did not fit the homeowners needs of an open concept floor plan suited for entertaining guests.
AFTER PHOTO: #1 Every detail was considered and planned in creating this wonderful new kitchen. The homeowners were at awe with the new kitchen and the way everything complimented each other.
BEFORE PHOTO: #2 This picture of the existing kitchen shows no connection to the living space beyond the range. A narrow passage way leads to the dining room and then the living room.
AFTER PHOTO: #2 This photo captures the enormous size of the new kitchen. An 8' island with seating for 4 is surrounded with beautiful white cabinetry. Storage in this kitchen wasn't an issue.
BEFORE PHOTO: #3 This picture showing the sitting area in the kitchen didn't have use to the homeowners.
AFTER PHOTO: #3 With the new layout change, a formal dining was created in the old sitting area of the kitchen. Adding the new patio door provided need access to the back yard.
AFTER PHOTO: #4 Creating a focal point in the kitchen was a desire of these homeowners. A sleek copper tile backsplash and custom made hood vent with an arched top highlighted this wall.
AFTER PHOTO: #5 This pictures shows the signature details and customization these homeowners received in their new kitchen with a continuation of the backsplash tile through the glass upper cabinetry.
