MAKING HISTORY LIGHTING THE WAY WE VE COME A LONG WAY SINCE 1946. Before the advancement of WWII, Edwin Billington, Walter Carroll and John Skidmore were employed by one of Leeds biggest electrical contractors of that time. Returning home from the battlefi eld, they founded BCS Electrics Ltd on the 19th March 1946. The company soon recruited Harry Furness, an old colleague to join the management team. BCS Electrics commitment to staff welfare started back in Harry s day when he regularly cycled from Leeds to Manchester to deliver wages. In the post war downturn, construction came to a halt as Yorkshire, like many industrial cities struggled. To ensure staff were paid, rugby league fans John and Ted visited Bradford Northern (now the famous Bradford Bulls) every week to take payment for their work on the stadium from ticket sales on the turnstiles. From humble beginnings in their premises on 44 The Calls, Leeds to the rise of the company through the decades they are still owned by the Furness family. Today, BCS are a team of 30 highly skilled engineers and project managers, some of whom have been with the company for the last 35 years.
