THE KAMENGO FEEDER AND KAMENGO DESIGNED BINS HAVE ESTABLISHED A TRACK RECORD AS A RELIABLE STORAGE AND FEED SOLUTION FOR HOG FUEL BOILER FEED APPLICATIONS KAMENGO
The Kamengo Feeder has been used on numerous hog fuel boiler feed and pile reclaim systems as well as retrofits of hog fuel day bins. With installations operating reliably since the 1990's, the Kamengo Feeder has established a good track record for hog fuel feed. While Kamengo has supplied Bins, Feeders and Chutes for new hog fuel boiler feed applications, it has also been common for Kamengo to supply new equipment to retrofit existing boiler feed systems. We have developed considerable experience designing equipment to fit into existing tight spaces. KAMENGO Hog Fuel Boiler Feed
8 7 There are three common arrangements for Kamengo boiler storage and feed systems: 6 D Distribution Isolation Gate Bin Kamengo Feeder Chute C Chute Expansion Joint SIDE VIEW (A) FEEDER AND COLD CHUTE B In this arrangement, material is fed from a distribution conveyor into a surge bin. Material from the surge bin is fed by a Kamengo Feeder into a chute, which transfers the material into the boiler. This arrangement includes the fewest mechanical items. However, since the Kamengo Feeder feeds over its full length, a large, tall chute is often required to bring the material to the boiler. The tall chute can consume valuable headroom that 3 3/8 could 2 otherwise be used to increase the height of the storage. VIEW B-B HOT KAMENGO A

Uncompacted fuel from the surge bin is fed by a Kamengo Feeder onto a collection screw conveyor, which conveys the fuel into a short chute that transfers the material into the boiler. There is no head of material above the screw which is running less than 30% full. As conveyors, the screws will operate well without the plugging and mechanical problems typically N81L experienced by a screw used as a feeder, as they have no head of material above. KAMENGO Hog Fuel Boiler Feed While this arrangement includes an additional mechanical component, it maximizes storage at the boiler by minimizing the required height of the chute off the Kamengo Feeder. Bin Kamengo Feeder Chute Screw Conveyor Chute (C) FEEDER AND LARGE STORAGE BIN The Kamengo feeder can operate well with a significant height of storage above. With new boilers, additional height can be allocated to the storage bin. The larger storage by the boiler makes the fuel feed system less sensitive to problems at the main storage, and also enables elimination of fuel over feed as well as the need for a return conveyor. In this arrangement, material is fed from a distribution conveyor into a surge bin. Uncompacted fuel from the surge bin is fed by a Kamengo Feeder onto a collection screw conveyor, which conveys the fuel into a short chute that transfers the material into the boiler. The plant would manage the operation of the distribution conveyor based on the level of material in the last bin to receive hog fuel. KAMENGO
KAMENGO AND THE KAMENGO FEEDER HAVE BEEN RELIED UPON FOR NUMEROUS HOG FUEL BOILER FEED APPLICATIONS KAMENGO Hog Fuel Boiler Feed
A SELECTION OF BOILER FEED PROJECTS HOG FUEL BOILER STORAGE AND FEED - NEW MILL (1990) Peace River, Alberta Our oldest boiler feeders have been in operation at the Daishowa mill in Peace River, Alberta, Canada since the start of the mill in 1990. The feeders continue to provide reliable flow to the boiler with little maintenance needed in almost 25 years of operation. HOG FUEL BOILER STORAGE AND FEED RETROFIT (1994) Kamloops, British Columbia We have two boilers at the mill using our system - the first since 1994 and the second re-built in 1996. At Kamloops, our feeders have provided a much higher degree of reliability compared to the previous star feeders, which tended to plug up in the bin as well as the chutes below. Along with eliminating hang-ups, the feeders have provided a uniform steady discharge of hog fuel compared to the pulsating action of the screws or star feeders which has improved fuel distribution and boiler output and efficiency. HOG FUEL AND TURKEY WASTE BOILER STORAGE AND FEED (2007) Benson, Minnesota We started up poultry litter fuel feeding equipment for a UK-based company s power plant in Benson, Minnesota in April 2007. Poultry litter essentially consists of wood shavings/straw used as a bedding material mixed with droppings from poultry. The resulting mixture has been problematic with screw type systems, but is handled with relative ease with the Kamengo Feeder. KAMENGO
HOG FUEL BOILER STORAGE AND FEED RETROFIT (2014) Tacoma, Washington The mill was experiencing severe plugging problems with screw feeders and could only operate with very low levels of fuel in the bins. The Kamengo Feeders have completely eliminated the plugging problems and have allowed the bins full capacity. Uniform steady discharge of hog fuel has improved fuel distribution and boiler output and efficiency. HOG FUEL TALL BIN STORAGE AND FEED RETROFIT (2000) Port Townsend, Washington This installation is a retrofit of a tall 4,000 cu-ft bin located in the boiler house. The circular bin was fitted with a vibrating cone and was prone to severe plugging such that only a fraction of the bin s storage could be used. Kamengo retrofitted the bin with insert plates to convert it into a mass flow (first-in first-out) hopper fed by a Kamengo Feeder. The bin is now used to its full capacity and provides reliable feed to the boiler. HOG FUEL BOILER STORAGE AND FEED RETROFIT (2014) Quesnel, British Columbia The Quesnel installation is a retrofit where eight small screw feeders experiencing chronic plugging where replaced by four surge bins and feeders. Each Kamengo Feeder feeds a split chute, which in-turn directs the hog fuel into two boiler spouts. KAMENGO Hog Fuel Boiler Feed
