Recycling and Who: Households and businesses Limit: Businesses limited to one pickup truck load of recyclables per week. See limits for plastics, paper and plastic bags at www.hennepin.us/greendisposalguide. Plastics Bottles, jugs, cups, containers (empty, rinsed) Metal Food and beverage cans Paper Mail, office, school; magazines and catalogs; newspapers and inserts; phone books (limit 100); shredded paper in closed paper bag; boxes like cereal, cracker, gift, toiletry, etc. Glass Bottles, jars Plastic bags (clean, dry, placed in open bag) Cartons Milk, soup, broth and wine cartons; juice boxes Cardboard and Who: Households and businesses Limit: Bloomington: Flatten boxes. Preferred size 3 x 3. Households limited to one pickup truck load of cardboard per day. Businesses limited to one pickup truck load of cardboard per week. Larger quantities of cardboard should be delivered to the Brooklyn Park Transfer Station. Brooklyn Park: Flatten boxes. No preferred size or limit. Cords and lights and Electric cords and string/holiday lights 4

Tires Cost: $3 each and Limit: Less than 4 in diameter; no commercial tires Scrap metal and no payment for scrap metal and Who: Households and businesses Limit: Grills Lawn mowers Pipes and poles Metal shelving Bed frames Must remove all non-metal parts and drain all fluids before bringing scrap metal to facility. You will NOT be allowed to remove non-metal parts and fluids on-site, which includes the recycling area or parking lot. Mattresses and box springs Cost: $15 per piece all sizes (including futon and crib mattresses). Factory split box springs are considered two pieces. Where: Accepted at the Brooklyn Park facility only 3

Go to our Green Disposal Guide for households: www.hennepin.us/greendisposalguide Hennepin County will not accept waste from businesses which includes condominium, neighborhood, or townhouse associations; governmental entities; home-based businesses; nonprofit organizations; rental properties; or any other activity intended to produce income. Hennepin County will not accept waste from commercial activities that was generated or stored in a household. Business options: Search: www.rethinkrecycling.com/businesses. NOT ACCEPTED at Hennepin County Drop-off Facilities: Ammunition Asbestos Business hazardous waste Carpet Concrete, asphalt Construction materials Empty gas cans Explosives Furniture Garbage Medicines Radioactive waste Remodeling debris Treated wood Yard and tree waste For more information about Hennepin County Drop-off Facilities: Go to: www.hennepin.us/dropoffs. Free product centers Both facilities have reusable paint, automotive products, cleaners, adhesives and other products available for free. Residents must be 18 years or older to participate. Limits: * Aerosol cans: 2 cans per week * No more than 10 items per week * Reselling products is prohibited The county does not guarantee these products or their availability, and items selected by residents are used at their own risk.

Organics Cost: No charge facilities ONLY Tuesday-Friday Who: Limit: Households and small businesses only Not accepted on Saturdays. Must be generated in Hennepin County. Accepted from county residents and small businesses only. Must be separated from trash and recyclables. Five bags per person per day. Must be in a closed, BPI-certified bag. Look for the BPI logo. All food - fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, bones, dairy products, eggs, egg shells, pasta, beans, rice, bread, cereal, nuts and shells Food-soiled paper - pizza boxes from delivery, napkins, paper towels, paper egg cartons, parchment paper Certified compostable products - compostable paper and plastic cups, plates, bowls, utensils and containers. Looks for the BPI or Cedar Grove logos or the term compostable on certified products. Other compostable items - coffee grounds and filters, hair and nail clippings, cotton balls and swabs with paper stems, houseplants and flowers, tea bags, wooden items such as chopsticks, popsicle sticks and toothpicks Needles and sharps and Limit: Sharps must be stored in a punctureresistant container with a screw-on lid. Label the container, Do not recycle: Household sharps. CERT # S-A-M-P-L-E At the county s drop-off facilities, staff will guide you to the needles and sharps drop-off area. Your sharps must be in a proper container and you will be responsible for placing your container into the drop-off bin. Note: Sharps will not be accepted if not in a rigid, puncture-resistant container with a screw-on lid. Staff will not handle needles and sharps. Also, do not put unused medicines contained in sharps (epi-pens) in your container. 5
