ESB STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK 2020 World Class Sustainable Networks A Renewable Business Of Scale Best Practice Generation Portfolio Customer Focused Supply Business Significant International Presence And be a Leader in Carbon Management and Energy Efficiency

ESB stimulus for Irish Economy 2009-2013 1. Create 3,700 new external Irish jobs by 2013 through investment in new activities such as Smart Networks, Electric Vehicles and Smart Metering 2. Continue investments in Networks & Generation ( 3.5 billion) which sustain 1,300 jobs in Ireland 3. Provide the infrastructure to support continued job growth and economic progress well beyond 2013 in Smart Economy 4. Support the training of 800 apprentices & 300 professionals/ graduates

Apprentice & Graduate Recruitment ESB will recruit 400 school leavers into its craft apprenticeship programme During 2009/10, ESB will enable 400 unemployed apprentices to complete their apprenticeship ESB will recruit 300 graduates 250 Engineering Graduates 50 Finance/Accounting Graduates

1. Smart Networks/Smart Metering Install smart meters to 2.2m homes, on completion of industry trials Transform networks to enable delivery of national renewables targets and electrification of transport Support drive to increase penetration of micro generation in Ireland Support delivery of Smart Networks via new Networks IT and Telecoms systems Exploit potential for significant future economic development Will create up to 1500 jobs

2. Electric Vehicles Roll out a comprehensive charging infrastructure Initial pilot of 20m leading to nationwide roll out Open standards available to all suppliers/car companies Design and build supporting IT infrastructure Public education to promote electric vehicles Support conversion of large fleets to electric vehicles Support enterprise opportunities with export potential Battery technology, manufacturing, IT Systems Will create up to 600 jobs

ESB Head Office Redevelopment ESB will invest 200m in new Sustainable Head Office Existing buildings >50 years old in parts, very inefficient Will give leadership on sustainable buildings Capital release opportunity Important for ESB and for Dublin International Design Competition Will create up to 400 construction jobs

Eco-Investment Fund (Novus Modus) New 200m Investment Fund for Energy Innovation Positioning ESB as a smart-tech Utility for the future ESB investments will drive employment in this sector Renewable Generation Clean Energy Technologies Renewable services and logistics Low carbon and energy efficiency Will create up to 350 jobs

5. Home Energy Efficiency Programme Promote energy efficiency in the home Working with SEI & encouraging uptake of grants Free energy efficiency audits Targeting 25,000 householders in 2009 Recommend cost-effective remedial measures Provide details of approved contractors Working with banks to provide convenient financial packages for householders ESB to provide a quality assurance programme Will create up to 250 jobs
