ESB stimulus for Irish Economy 2009-2013 1. Create 3,700 new external Irish jobs by 2013 through investment in new activities such as Smart Networks, Electric Vehicles and Smart Metering 2. Apprentice & Graduate Recruitment ESB will recruit 400 school leavers into its craft apprenticeship programme During 2009/10, ESB will enable 400 unemployed apprentices to complete their apprenticeship ESB will recruit 300 graduates 250 Engineering Graduates 50 Finance/Accounting Graduates

Smart Networks/Smart Metering Install smart meters to 2.2m homes, on completion of industry trials Transform networks to enable delivery of national renewables targets and electrification of transport Support drive to increase penetration of micro generation in Ireland Support delivery of Smart Networks via new Networks IT and Telecoms systems Exploit potential for significant future economic development Will create up to 1500 jobs

Electric Vehicles Roll out a comprehensive charging infrastructure Initial pilot of 20m leading to nationwide roll out Open standards available to all suppliers/car companies Design and build supporting IT infrastructure Public education to promote electric vehicles Support conversion of large fleets to electric vehicles Support enterprise opportunities with export potential Battery technology, manufacturing, IT Systems Will create up to 600 jobs

ESB Head Office Redevelopment ESB will invest 200m in new Sustainable Head Office Existing buildings >50 years old in parts, very inefficient Will give leadership on sustainable buildings Capital release opportunity Important for ESB and for Dublin International Design Competition Will create up to 400 construction jobs
