Mixed recycling Our dry mixed recycling service means you can put your cardboard, paper, tins and plastic bottles all in one bin. Easy. Landfill tax has risen 8 every year, reaching a record-high of 80 per tonne in 2014. The more you recycle, the more you save. Giving commingled waste new life Once we have collected the material from your business we take it to our advanced Materials Recycling Facilities (MRFs) where a combination of advanced mechanical sorting techniques and manual quality control is used to separate the materials. Our facilities are some of the biggest and most advanced of their kind in Europe. Each site operates under the highest quality, environmental, energy efficiency, health and safety standards certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and OHSAS 18001 respectively. A typical Viridor Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) Tipping floor and feed conveyor The commingled materials arrive at the Material Recycling Facility and are loaded onto conveyors. Pre-sort The sorting process begins. Non-recyclables and large items are removed. Trommel (<45mm and <170mm) The <45mm trommel removes glass. The <170mm trommel removes newspaper and pamplets, paper, card, plastic and metal. Glass Quality control All materials are checked and audited before dispatch. Glass sent for processing High-quality recyclates sold for manufacturing into new products. Optical sorter Different types of plastic are identified (bottles, pots and tubs) and separated using the optical scanners. Overhead magnet and eddy current Steel and tins are removed using magnets. Eddy current used to separate aluminium. Sorting lines Paper and card sorted into different grades. Quality control All materials are checked and audited before dispatch. Dispatch of final product High-quality recyclates sold for manufacturing into new products.
