Curbside Garbage & Recycling Collection Calendar July 0 June 0 pentictonca/garbage Important Changes to Waste Collection! NEW CHANGES New collection trucks have hit the road, equipped with technology that will identify prohibited materials found in garbage, recycling, and yard waste carts All carts have a unique RFID chip and serial number that are associated with your address New cameras in the hopper of the trucks will allow operators to identify prohibited materials, or materials considered as contaminants As an example, car batteries in the garbage or plastic bags in the recycling can be identified by operators, and they will notify City staff This technology will be used to better identify how to educate residents on how to most effectively participate in the solid waste program If you unknowingly put material in your cart that is best disposed of elsewhere, look to your mailbox for an educational letter! Recycling is something everyone can take pride in, as it reduces our impact on the environment by saving resources and generating new products with old materials For example, the can of tomatoes you rinsed and placed in your recycling cart will eventually be recycled into a new can, maybe for green beans The sorting facilities that separate the plastics, metals, and paper from one another are modern and efficient, but they have one catch thin soft plastics such as shopping bags or overwrap plug up the machinery Placing bags, wrap or pouches into your recycle cart will ultimately jam up the conveyor belts and rollers of the sorting machines By taking bags and thin, soft plastics to the bottle depot you are ensuring they are recycled properly and are not ending up in the moving parts of the machinery Please review the recycle guide for more information about what can go into your home recycle cart Always check the websites below, or the RCBC Recyclepedia, for an up-to- date list of depots and accepted items wwwrcbcbcca, -00-- Campbell Mountain Landfill 0 Spiller Road 0--0 Hours: March November 0: Monday through Sunday*: :0 am : pm *December, January & February: Closed Sundays Closed all Statutory Holidays, Boxing Day and winter Sundays Also accepts: Household Hazardous Waste wwwregenerationca Light fixtures & bulbs - wwwlightrecycleca Small appliances & power tools - wwwelectrorecycleca Used motor oil, filters and containers wwwusedoilrecyclingca J & C Bottle Depot 00 Rosetown Ave 0-- Hours: April September 0: Mon-Sat :0 am :00 pm October March : Mon-Sat :00 am :0 pm Closed Sundays & Holiday Also accepts: Beverage Containers - wwwreturn-itca Electronics -wwwreturn-itca Household Hazardous Waste wwwregenerationca Light fixtures & bulbs - wwwlightrecycleca Small appliances & power tools - wwwelectrorecycleca
