General This technical report describes tests of the CSP-25M/P15 mark 2 crimp splice protection including environmental and climatic requirements and mechanical tests. 2. Description The Crimp Splice Protection CSP-25M/P15 mark 2 (new version) offers a mechanical and environmental protection for fiber optic joints. The aluminum crimp splice is re-coated with adhesive mastic and simply folded around the spliced fibers, using crimping tool. It does not require the application of heat after fusion splicing. The splice loss is not affected by using the crimp splice protector. All types of fibers with a primary protection 25μm are process able in the splice protector. 3. TZ_2_7_EN_splice 6. Process preparing of samples Splicing two pigtails. All splices were inserted into randomly chosen crimp splice protection and crimped. Insertion the splice protection into splice holder. Insertion the splice holder into test equipment (climatic chamber or mechanical test equipment) Setting reference. Starting test and attenuation of the splice at splice protection was measured. Type of optical fiber: Single mode 9/125, G652C type Type of fusion splicer: Furukawa S176, SN: 111 The initial Insertion loss shall be measured: IL.1 db All tests were performed by using the standard G.652C single mode fiber at 3 samples for each test. 7. Test Method 7.1. Insertion Loss (IEC 874-1, 4.4.7.4 method 7) The test samples shall be measured in the following system According to IEC 874-1, 4.4.7.4 (Picture 2) The Insertion Loss (IL) is defined as P 1 IL = - 1 log ----- Light Source Master P (db) P Optical Power Meter Photo Detector Picture 2 Insertion Loss (IEC 874-1, 4.4.7.4 method 7) First step Read of reference value P Second step Replace the Master Patch cord by set of two spliced pigtails, read the value P1.
