Security Overview First and foremost, security is everyone's responsibility. If you observe something out of the ordinary, take the necessary action. All volunteers can assist the Security Committee and the security volunteers by familiarizing themselves with these security procedures and guidelines and remain vigilant throughout the festivities. Designated Security Volunteers: There will be adult volunteers specifically assigned security duties for the duration of the event. These security volunteers will be stationed at the main lobby entrance and at other positions throughout the school to ensure no one exits or enters the building other than through the main entrance unless there is an evacuation or emergency. To easily identify security personnel, all security volunteers will wear red colored tops and will be given a wristband and name tag. The Security Committee will have its base headquarters at the main lobby entrance in the foyer area inside Door #9. The ANGP volunteer coordinator will also have a base headquarters at the same location. The base headquarters will be manned for the entire duration of the ANGP and serve as the focal point for any issues that may arise. Security volunteers in strategic positions will be issued walkietalkies to maintain communication, and all security volunteers will have a flashlight for use during emergencies. In the event of an evacuation, announcements will be made over the PA system via the Activities Office. Security volunteers will direct all attendees to the nearest emergency exit and will remain until their area is cleared of all attendees, unless otherwise directed by Fairfax County emergency personnel or a school official. While security volunteers are clearing the building, the other ANGP volunteers will lead attendees to the Junior Parking Lot where roll will be taken. In addition to security volunteers, the ANGP committee has arranged for one Fairfax County police officer to be present for the entire ANGP event. School staff will also be on site for the duration of the event. Volunteer Training in Security and Emergency Procedures: The ANGP Safety Plan will be posted on the ANGP webpage that is part of the McLean High School PTSA website. A link to the Safety Plan will be included in the sign-up e-mail requesting volunteers, and all volunteers will be instructed to familiarize themselves with the emergency procedures described in the Plan. In addition, each volunteer will be sent a copy of or link to the Safety Plan by email prior to the event. Upon check-in, the night of ANGP, all volunteers will be briefed on their duties and the emergency procedures. In addition, they will each be given a check list to follow in an emergency and a copy of the Security/Fire/Evacuation Map. Before the event begins each volunteer will be instructed to locate their closest and alternate exits, as well as nearby fire alarms and fire extinguishers, and volunteers with radios will be trained on how to use them. 2 -- MHS 2017 ANGP Safety Plan

Check In/Out Procedures Volunteer/Vendor/Staff: Check In: For safety considerations and accountability, all volunteers must check in at the Security Committee headquarters table at the main lobby entrance in the foyer area inside Door #9. There will be two shifts of volunteers: The first from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.; the second from 2:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. All ANGP volunteers will be issued a colored wristband which must be worn during the entire time while on duty. All vendors and school staff will also be asked to check in with the Security Committee headquarters table. Check Out: To maintain an accurate list of who is in the building, all volunteers MUST check out with the Security Committee upon completion of their shift and return any issued equipment (radios, flashlights, etc.). Vendors and school staff who depart will also be asked to check out with the Security Committee upon departure. Graduates: Only graduates that have registered and paid will be allowed into the ANGP. Check In: All graduates MUST check in at the foyer area inside Door #9 between the hours of 11:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. At check in, each graduate will show a photo ID and then be issued a colored wristband for identification. This wristband must be worn while at the ANGP. An ANGP volunteer will note all graduates who have checked in on a master list of graduates who registered to attend. Once the doors are closed at 12:00 a.m., and check-in is complete, a phone call will be made to the parent/guardian of any registered graduate who has not checked-in. Once inside the facility the graduate must remain until the ANGP is complete. Graduates can only retrieve things from a car with a security escort. Early Departure Check Out: If a graduate elects to leave before the end of the ANGP, they must checkout at the Security Committee table inside Door #9. Prior to their departure, a security volunteer must either meet their parent/guardian at door #9 or be able to speak with their parent/guardian on the phone. Graduates who depart will not be allowed to return. The Security Committee will note all departures on the master list of graduate attendees that will be kept at the Security Committee HQ table inside Door #9. 4 -- MHS 2017 ANGP Safety Plan
Emergency Procedures Fire Alarm: Upon activation of alarm or detection of fire, security volunteers will turn on all lights and direct all vendors (either directly or via relay message using walkie-talkies, cell phones and the PA system) to immediately shut off all music. Anyone detecting a fire must immediately activate the fire alarm, call 911, and evacuate the area. Don't assume someone else has called 911. After calling 911 the security volunteers in the area of the incident will then use walkie-talkies or cell phones to notify the ANGP Chair of the fire. Volunteers and school staff will direct all occupants to leave belongings behind and exit the school in a safe and orderly fashion through the designated emergency exits. All security volunteers should make sure everyone has evacuated their area before departing. Other ANGP volunteers and school staff will lead graduates out through the nearest designated exit. If the fire alarm goes off, call 911 and evacuate the building even if you know someone pulled the alarm by mistake or as a prank. It's the law: If the alarm is activated you must call 911 and evacuate. Loss of Power: In the event of a power outage or complete black out, the emergency generator will automatically provide power for emergency exit signs, security lights, and telephones within 15 seconds. Security volunteers and school staff will gather all graduates in their areas and direct them to the nearest gathering point, either the cafeteria, or main gymnasium. If power is restored within 30 minutes, all activities will resume as scheduled. If the decision is made to cancel the event, volunteers will assist graduates in collecting their belongings and exiting the building. Evacuation Plan and Accountability Procedures: Prior to the start of the evening, the ANGP ticket coordinator will have make four copies of the list of registered graduate attendees. The ANGP Chair will have selected four ANGP volunteers to each hold one copy of the list for taking roll should an evacuation occur. In the event of an evacuation, everyone will go to the Junior's Parking Lot. The master list of graduates present, and the lists of all volunteers, vendors, and staff present, will be maintained at the Security Committee HQ table located inside Door #9. The security volunteer stationed at the HQ table will update the lists throughout the night to note any departures, and, in the event of an evacuation, will bring the lists to the Junior's Parking Lot and give them to one of the Security Committee Co-Chairs. Upon arrival at the Junior's Parking Lot, the security volunteers will station themselves around the perimeter of the lot and ask graduates not to leave until roll has been taken. 5 -- MHS 2017 ANGP Safety Plan
Upon arriving at the Junior's Parking Lot, other ANGP volunteers will separate the graduates into four groups of roughly equal size to assemble in each of the four corners of the parking lot. In each of the four corners, one of the four ANGP volunteers possessing a copy of the list of registered graduate attendees will take roll by marking each graduate present on his/her list. When the ANGP volunteer has marked all of those present, the volunteer will bring the list to one of the Security Committee Co-Chairs. The Security Committee Co-Chairs will then reconcile those noted as present in the Junior's Parking Lot with those who were actually present in the building immediately before the evacuation. The Security Committee Co-Chairs will then inform Fairfax County emergency personnel of any attendees believed to be missing. Re-entry to the ANGP after Evacuation: Once the Fairfax County emergency personnel have given an all clear and permit re-entry to the building, security volunteers will be re-admitted first through the volunteer check-in table inside Door #9. When all the security volunteers are in place, the other adult volunteers and staff will escort the graduates from the Junior's Parking Lot back into the building through Door #9. The reconciled list(s) in the possession of the Security Committee Co-Chairs from the evacuation will then become the master lists to be used for the rest of the evening in the unlikely event of a second evacuation. Medical Emergency: In the event of an illness or injury requiring medical attention, the security volunteer in the area of the incident will use walkie-talkies or cell phones to notify the ANGP Chair of the circumstances. If no one has already called 911, the ANGP Chair will decide whether the illness or injury warrants calling 911. If 911 is called then the ANGP Chair (or a volunteer or school official designated by the Chair) will accompany the ill or injured person to the emergency vehicle. 6 -- MHS 2017 ANGP Safety Plan
