Transition Arrangements This qualification and the National Certificate in Drilling - Hydrocarbon (Floorman) (Level 2) with strands in Off Shore Drilling, and On Shore Drilling [Ref: 1335] have been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Drilling (Level 3) [Ref: 2621]. The last date for entry into training programmes or courses leading to this qualification is 31 December 2016. The last date of assessment for the replaced qualification is 31 December 2018. People working towards the replaced qualification must complete its requirements or transfer to a programme of study or training leading to its replacement by 31 December 2018. It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to MITO at the address below. Appeals will be considered on a case by case basis. NZQF NQ Ref 1331 Version 3 Page 3 of 7 National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller's Assistant) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development Level 2 Credits 40 Purpose The National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller s Assistant) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development recognises the skills of an experienced driller s assistant in non-hydrocarbon drilling at an onshore drilling operation. The holder of this qualification is able to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures under supervision. A core compulsory of essential skills related to health and safety, working in the drilling industry, mobilisation of equipment and materials, providing support for drilling, and setting up and preparing for drilling is included in this qualification. A core elective that recognises a variety of skill sets is required due to the diversity of s. Elective 2 offers a choice of two standards relating to occupational health and safety practice. Elective 3 offers a range of standards that relate to drilling methods for the different activities undertaken in the drilling industry to the skill level of a Driller s Assistant. The optional strand in this qualification, Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development, offers standards covering skills for specific industry sectors. This qualification includes Australian competency standards that are part of the RII09 Drilling Training Package - Certificate II in Drilling Operations. These standards have been endorsed by the New Zealand Extractive Industries Training Organisation. This qualification is the beginning of a pathway, which continues with the National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller) (Level 3) with optional strands in Environmental/Geotechnical, and Water Well [Ref: 1332], the National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Senior Driller) (Level 4) with an optional strand in Water Well [Ref: 1333], and culminates in the National Diploma in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller Supervisor) (Level 5) [Ref: 1334]. Special Notes This qualification is a prerequisite to the National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller) (Level 3) with optional strands in Environmental/Geotechnical, and Water Well [Ref: 1332].

Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Changes to structure and content: Standards 16605-16610 were removed from Elective 2 as they are due to expire 31 December 2012. Standard 18138 was removed from Elective 2 as it is suitable in only a minority of drilling contexts. Elective 2 changed from a minimum of 12 credits to a minimum of one standard. Credits for Elective 1 increased from 5 to 13 to ensure the total credit value of the qualification remains 40. For detailed information see Review Summaries on the NZQA website. All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to version 2. People who have already gained unit standards 16605-16610 must complete version 1 of this qualification by 31 December 2013. People who have not gained unit standards 16605-16610 must complete these by 31 December 2012 or transfer to version 2.
