FX ALL FX ALL CONTAINER, ENGINE/APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION 1.General A.This procedure has the removal and installation instructions for the engine and auxiliary power unit fire extinguisher containers. B.The removal and installation instructions are the same for the fire extinguisher containers from the two manufacture's. Except as noted C.Two fire extinguisher containers are installed on the front spar of each wing near the No. 1 and No. 3 engines. These fire extinguisher containers supply fire agent to wing and pylon area. Also, there are two fire extinguisher containers installed in the aft fuselage. These fire extinguisher containers supply fire agent to the auxiliary power unit and the No. 2 engine. D. E.The fire extinguisher containers can not be filled on the aircraft. Replace an empty fire extinguisher container with a full fire extinguisher container. F.Unless different instructions are given these procedures are the same for all engine/auxiliary power unit fire extinguisher containers. (1)Remove the applicable engine or APU discharge heads. ( REMOVAL OF THE ENGINE AND AUXILIARY POWER UNIT FIREX DISCHARGE HEAD, TASK 26-21-03-000-801) SUBTASK 26-21-01-030-001 (2)Remove the applicable fire extinguisher container (1) as follows: ( Figure 401 or Figure 402) FX 572, 624, 625, 628, 631, 642-645 FX ALL (a) (b)install a protective cap on the (P/N 53100647-1) on the discharge boss. (c)disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the pressure switch. 1)Install the protective caps and plugs on the fire extinguisher container (1) and electrical connector (2). (d)attach a hoist rope to the fire extinguisher container (1). ITEL 26-21-01 NOTE: Hoist rope is for wing engine Firex containers only. (e)on fire extinguisher containers for engines No. 1 or No. 3, remove bolt (7), washer (8), and disconnect fire extinguisher container (1) from clevis. 1)Remove bolt (3), washer (4), and nut (5) and disconnect fire extinguisher container (1) from clevis. (f)on fire extinguisher containers for engines No.2 engine or APU remove bolt (7) washer (8). (g) 1)Remove quick-release pin (6) and disconnect fire extinguisher container (1) from clevis. 1)Remove quick-release pin (6) and disconnect fire extinguisher container (1) from clevis. Page 3 of 10

SUBTASK 26-21-01-490-011 (1)Install the applicable fire extinguisher container (1) as follows: ( Figure 401 or Figure 402) FX 572, 624, 625, 628, 631, 642-645 (a) (b)prepare the mounting areas for electrical bond. ( ELECTRICAL BONDING - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES, SWPM 20-50-01) WARNING: GET SUFFICIENT AID FROM PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT TO HOLD THE COMPONENT DURING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION. THIS COMPONENT WEIGHS MORE THAN 35 LBS (15.9 KG). THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT. (c)for No.1 and No. 3 engine, attach the hoist rope and lift fire extinguisher container (1) into position. 1)Install the four bolt (3), washer (4) in the mount brackets and one bolt (3), washer (4), and nut (5) in the to clevis. 2)Remove hoist rope from No.1 and No. 3 engine fire extinguisher container (1). WARNING: GET SUFFICIENT AID FROM PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT TO HOLD THE COMPONENT DURING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION. THIS COMPONENT WEIGHS MORE THAN 35 LBS (15.9 KG). THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT. (d)carefully lift the No.2 and APU fire extinguisher container into position. (e) 1)Install the two bolt (7), washer (8) in the mount brackets and install quick-release pin (6) in the clevis. 1)Install the two bolt (9), washer (10) in the mount brackets and install quick-release pin (6) in the clevis. (f)do an electrical bond check for attach bolts to the mount brackets. ( ELECTRICAL BONDING - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES, SWPM 20-50-01) (g)remove protective caps on fire extinguisher container (1). (h)install fire extinguisher discharge head. ( INSTALLATION OF THE ENGINE AND AUXILIARY POWER UNIT FIREX DISCHARGE HEAD, TASK 26-21-03-400-801). 1)If a fire extinguisher container is being replaced due to a discharge event (either by command or due to the overpressurization of a firex bottle resulting in a thermal discharge), do a routing and leak check of the applicable engine/apu fire extinguishing deployment lines. ( SYSTEM, ENGINE AND AUXILIARY POWER UNIT FIRE EXTINGUISHER - TEST, PAGEBLOCK 26-21-00/501) NOTE: A five flight-cycle allowance is permitted so that the aircraft can return to a facility or base that is equipped to perform the routing and leak check on the applicable fire extinguishing deployment lines. (i)remove protective caps from connector (2) and pressure switch. 1)Check the connector (2) and pressure switch for damage and unwanted material.
