Important Notes: Please read carefully before installing your refrigerator. This Labcold product has been made with great care, tested thoroughly before being sent to you, and is expected to give good service over many years if looked after. The following information is provided for your guidance: 1. Acceptance: Immediately upon delivery to you the product packaging and the product itself should be inspected for any signs of damage. It was perfect when it left us and should still be so when you receive it. If this is not the case please contact the supplier from whom you ordered it within three days of delivery. 2. Positioning: Units should be positioned so as to allow adequate airflow around the refrigeration compartment. Once in its final position for use, the equipment must be left to stand for at least 2 hours before being switched on to prevent damage to the refrigeration system. 3. Stabilisation: Following the above resting period the equipment can be switched on and left for at least 24 hours to cool down and the temperature to stabilise. After this time the unit should be checked for correct operation. Only after this should the product be used for the storage of material. 4. Calibration: If desired, and following steps 1 to 3 above, the operating temperature inside the chamber (at the centre) may be checked against an independent thermometer of verified accuracy. Any adjustment necessary can then be made by reference to the appropriate section in this manual. All Labcold products have their operating temperatures factory set when being built but during transit, or when being operated in a different environment, small adjustments are sometimes necessary. Such adjustments are intended to be performed by the user and are not covered by the warranty. 5. Recalibration: For improved long term performance and security of contents the operation outlined in 4 above should be repeated at regular intervals. Labcold recommends once every six months. 6. Warranty: This Labcold product is warranted against manufacturing defect or malfunction for a period of 12 months from the date of delivery, or other time period as agreed in writing by the manufacturers. This warranty, valid within the United Kingdom only, covers all parts and all labour required to return the product to correct working order subject to the Standard Conditions of Sale provided it has been operated and cared for in accordance with this operator s manual. If the product was purchased through a third party vendor, or outside the UK, then different terms may apply and reference should be made to the vendor from whom it was purchased. 7. Liability is limited to the extent of the Standard Conditions of Sale. Customers are advised that their rights to claim for damages lies with the vendor from whom the item was purchased. Labcold and its agents accept no further liability for the loss of customer s stored samples, products or other contents, nor the direct or indirect economic or other consequences resulting from such loss. Customers are therefore advised to ensure that they establish suitable checking and monitoring protocols as appropriate to the importance and risk associated with the stored contents in order to mitigate any loss that may occur. Customers are further advised to ensure that they have a suitable contingency plan in place to safeguard their stored property in the event that the unit cannot be repaired in time to prevent its loss or spoilage. 8. Customers are advised to read this manual together with the vendor s Standard Terms and Conditions of Sale to which this product, its use, delivery and installation, repair, and warranty are subject. A copy of the Standard Terms and Conditions of Sale may be obtained by contacting the vendor or viewing their catalogue or web site. 1

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR LABCOLD PORTABLE MEDICAL REFRIGERATOR MODEL This product has been designed for reliability, efficiency of operation and long life. A little care with siting and use will be amply rewarded. BEFORE CONNECTION Please check the refrigerator for any transit damage. We are careful with packing and with delivery teams. Any damage must be reported to your supplier within 24 hours. Read these instructions and understand its operation. Keep all packaging until you are sure that the Refrigerator is operating correctly. Keep these instructions. LOCATION The RPDF0012 is capable of keeping contents at a stable temperature from -5 o C to +60 o C. The unit has a multi voltage power supply from 12v DC or 240v AC. The operates quietly and is ozone friendly using advanced Peltier refrigerating technology without the use of polluting cooling liquids and without CFC s. Compared to conventional compressor or absorption technology solutions the Peltier refrigerating technology enables the user to operate the unit at any angle of inclination. The outer refrigerator is extremely robust and lightweight and is supplied with integral handles making carrying easy. An additional shoulder strap is provided. The unit can be used in two positions normal (flat) or side standing (upright). Place the unit on a dry, sheltered, flat surface away from any edges. The unit must not be exposed to water e.g. rain, or used next to water. The requires good ventilation. Allow a gap of at least 15cm around the sides, back and top of the unit. Never use the unit in a tightly packed boot of a vehicle or against a seat or wall. Avoid placing the unit near a heat source e.g. radiator and preferably not in direct sunlight. Try and position the unit in the shade at all times as this will help the unit operate more efficiently and keep the contents cool. Do not drape the unit with any covering or block the heat exchange grille. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS This unit is fitted with a fused three pin plug to BS1363 which will be suitable for use in all establishments fitted with sockets to current specifications. If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlets it should be cut off and carefully disposed of. FITTING A NEW PLUG If for any reason you need to fit a new plug, the flexible mains lead must be connected as shown below. The wires in the mains lead fitted to this appliance are coloured in accordance with the following code: CONNECT BLUE TO NEUTRAL (N) CONNECT BROWN TO LIVE (L) 3 AMP FUSE MAKE SURE THE OUTER SHEATH OF THE MAINS LEAD IS SECURELY HELD BY THE CLAMP This appliance is double insulated and must not be connected to the earth terminal of the plug, which may be marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol or coloured green and yellow. 2

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS The unit can be connected to a wide variety of power sources such as:- 230v AC supply UK mains supply 12v DC supply typical car, caravan, boat battery SET THE TEMPERATURE USING THE UP AND DOWN BUTTONS SET THE POWER SWITCH TO ON FOR NORMAL OPERATION SET POINT DISPLAY PRESS THE BUTTON TO MUTE THE FAN NOISE CLOSE THE LID WHEN IN USE Please check the power source carefully before connecting up the unit. If you need an extension cord for direct connection to an external 12v current source this is available as an optional accessory. To achieve an optimum cooling capacity, please note the following: Do not leave the lid open longer than is necessary and do not open the lid more than necessary. Do not place the unit in the sun; this can lead to a substantial reduction of the cooling capacity. Make sure that the louvres on the side of the unit are not covered and that sufficient air circulation is possible. For this reason do not run the unit in a closed area, this can lead to overheating and permanent damage. Please make sure that the lid of the unit is always closed properly. If the door is not closed correctly this causes higher current consumption or poor cooling performance. Use the insulated panel to ensure temperature remains stable. Do not overfill; always allow some airspace around the contents. 3

USING THE UNIT Ensure the 12v cigarette connecting lead does not interfere with the way you drive, always secure and position the unit in consideration of a possible road accident. 12V SUPPLY 240 VOLT SUPPLY 12V SUPPLY CORD STORAGE If the unit is used for a longer period of time, it is advisable to ensure that the inside of the unit is free from ice because this can affect the cooling performance considerably. Rooms or areas with high humidity are conducive to the formation of condensed water and ice. The set is adjusted at the factory so that icing cannot occur with usual humidity. If however ice forms inside the unit due to the climate, turn off the unit in order to thaw the ice. After use please unplug from the electrical supply and allow the unit to return to normal room temperature. Clean and store the unit in a clean dry place, leave the door slightly open to prevent stale smells and mould formation. NOTE: To avoid a flat car battery do not leave the plugged into the cigarette lighter socket for extended periods while the engine is switched off. The unit must be disconnected from the vehicle before high speed battery chargers are used. IMPORTANT: For safety always switch off at mains before disconnecting the cable from the refrigerator. MAINTENANCE The unit is maintenance free. Although the interior of the unit is made of food-safe and easy to clean plastic and metal, please do not use any sharp or abrasive cleaning agents. The best method is to wipe the interior with a damp cloth soaked with a mixture of vinegar and water or with mild cleansers such as a weak solution of bicarbonate of soda. The unit must be protected from sand, dust, dirt and moisture. Before cleaning the cooler, always switch off and disconnect the power supply. Lift and withdraw the removable shelf and wash it in warm soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Make sure the cooler is wiped dry before replacing the shelf or any contents. The exterior of the unit can be wiped clean using a clean, damp sponge or cloth and dried before using again. Take care that no water enters the unit. 4

SAFETY WARNING: IT IS HAZARDOUS FOR ANYONE OTHER THAN AUTHORISED SERVICE PERSONNEL TO CARRY OUT SERVICING OR REPAIRS WHICH INVOLVE THE REMOVAL OF COVERS. TO AVOID THE RISK OF AN ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER OF THE REFRIGERATOR. To avoid the risk of electrical shock, never plug in or unplug the unit with wet hands. Close supervision if necessary when the unit is being used near children or a person with any physical impairment. To reduce the risk of electrocution, always unplug after use. Do not place the unit in a position where it could be pulled or could fall over into water, such as a sink. If the unit does fall into water, with dry hands, unplug from the power socket immediately. If the unit has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly or it has been damaged or dropped into water, return it to a qualified service centre for examination and repair. Keep the electrical cable away from the edge of sharp or heated surfaces. Check the louvres are clear of any blockages. Never attempt to put the unit away when it is still plugged into the electricity supply or is still cold or hot. Never operate the unit on any soft surfaces such as a chair or a bed. Do not place corrosive or solvent based substances in the unit. Do not use harsh, abrasive or solvent based substances to clean the inside or outside of the unit. Do not fill the unit with liquid or ice. Damage to the electronic module/motors by foreign bodies such as sand, dirt or water will invalidate any warranty claims. TROUBLE SHOOTING If the unit is not working: Check it is plugged in correctly. For AC connection check the fuse in the plug has not blown. Plug in another appliance such as a reading lamp to see if the socket is working. For DC connection most vehicles require the ignition switched on to supply the current to the cigarette lighter. Check the cigarette lighter socket is not dirty and that it is making a good connection with the plug. Check that the fuse in the vehicle has not blown and refer to the vehicle manufacturer s user guide. 5

If the cigarette lighter plug gets warm check that the socket inside the vehicle is clean and the plug is inserted correctly, making a good connection. If the unit is not freezing then please check to see if the insulation panel is being used. Also check the unit is in AUTO mode and not MUTE mode. If you are unable to identify and eliminate the fault, do not attempt to repair the unit yourself as it might endanger yourself or others. Should you require service or assistance with any problems concerning the refrigerator, please call our Service Department on 0870 300 1010.
