Good indoor air also means cleanability of ductwork

General An AC plant must be designed, constructed and installed so that its interior, all of its components, including those inside ducts, and the ductwork can be cleaned and maintained through cleaning doors or by removing components. There must be openings in a dropped ceiling. If the large size of a duct requires that the duct must be cleaned from the inside, the type and location of the cleaning door must allow safe and unobstructed access and exit for cleaning staff. The design and installation documentation must specify the location, type and dimensions of cleaning doors as well as the devices uring devices, etc.). The settings for these devices must also be included to allow the correct settings to be restored after cleaning. Any component removable for cleaning can be used as a cleaning door as long as it meets the criteria set for cleaning doors. The cleaning method may vary according to the air distribution system and cleanliness class, which also determine the frequency of cleaning as well as the location of cleaning doors and the distance between them. The tightness of cleaning doors must match that of the same way as the duct. Cleaning doors in public places or otherwise accessible by unauthorised persons must be protected so that they cannot cause injury to people or be easily removed, pushed into the duct, opened without a tool, etc. In the case of an uninsulated cleaning door within in place must be ensured to prevent the spread of combustion gases within and outside the compartment. Size If the cleaning method is known and documented, the size of cleaning doors can be determined according to the cleaning method and be bigger or smaller than what is given in the tables. Minimum dimensions for cleaning door, circular duct Nominal duct size D (mm) Table 1. Rectangular or oval opening Minimum opening in the duct A x B (mm) Nominal duct size Minimum opening or D (mm) branch size d (mm) 100 100 200 160 Table 2. Branch or T-piece with duct end Minimum dimensions for cleaning door, rectangular duct Side of the duct where the Minimum opening opening is made S (mm) in the duct A x B (mm) Side of the duct where the Minimum opening or opening is made S (mm) branch size d (mm) If the technical documentation does not specify a cleaning method, the door size should be as in the tables. The tables conform to pren12097 Rev9. Fläkt Woods FIFLO EN 02.2008 2 All rights reserved.

Location The cleaning of duct-internal components that cannot be cleaned through or removed for cleaning must be made possible by, for example, providing them with cleaning doors on both sides. Such components include: - regulation and shut-down dampers - heating and cooling coils - duct fans - heat recovery devices Cleaning doors must be located to allow cleaning of the duct/component where the shape or size of the duct changes. A change in the duct size or shape may require a change of cleaning tool or method. Rising ducts should be provided with cleaning doors at both ends. Distance The distance between two cleaning doors depends on the ductwork design and the cleaning method. The cleaning doors must be located to allow cleaning of the entire ductwork and all of its components. Cleaning method not documented. Max. distance: 7.5 m (pren12097) - straight duct, no change in diameter - straight duct, diameter changes by one size - max. one bend of more than 45 Safety Screws and/or rivets: Ducts are typically joined together using screws or rivets, provided that there is no risk of damage to cleaning tools or injury to cleaning staff. Rivets are recommended. Screws must not exceed 13 mm in length. Sharp-pointed screws should not be used within 1 m of an air terminal device or cleaning door or on ducts that must be entered by a person for clean- duct, any sharp screws must be replaced with rivets within 1 m of the door. When making an opening in a duct for a retro- or projections around the opening. When installing cleaning doors or cleaning the ductwork, wear suitable gloves and other appropriate personal protective equipment and adhere to Cleaning doors in public places: accessible by unauthorised persons, must be secured in place using, for example, self-tapping screws to make it impossible to open the door without a tool. Spread of smoke through cleaning doors: In the case of an uninsulated cleaning door within a place, even when the sealings, etc. are gone, must be ensured to minimise the spread of combustion gases within the compartment. Installation Install and secure the door in accordance with the instructions supplied with it. Cleaning method: brushing. Max. distance: 10 m - brushing, straight duct, no change in diameter - brushing, straight duct, diameter changes by two sizes - brushing, max. two 90 bends, no change in diameter Max. distance 3 5 m - ducts of exhaust air class 4, depending on impurities contained in the air All rights reserved.
