Light Sensor Module (LSM01) LSM01 PCB May mount in Comfort CPU or SEP K1 LSM01 VR1 R2 U1 NC COM NO TO SENSOR TO MAIN + IN S- O/P GND 12V GND Photocell (Externally Mounted in transparent box or behind PIR lens ) 10k -12K Resistor - may be soldered into the PCB in R2 position eg. To Zone 13 Input Type 24. Introduction The Comfort Light Sensor Module (LSM01) is used to provide indication to a Comfort system when the light level has crossed an adjustable threshold level. This may be used within conditional responses or used directly to trigger Responses based on a selected light level. The Light Sensor is a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR or photocell) which reduces its resistance when the light intensity increases. This module may also be used for Temperature and Water Applications by using a different sensor. 1

Physical Dimensions: 88 x 53 mm Mounting Holes: 4 5 mm from each corner Connections/Components JP1 - Connection to Light Sensor. JP2-12V/GND supply from Comfort JP3 - Light Sensor open-collector output to Comfort Input JP4 - Relay Output (Not Used) D2 - LED indicates when the Light Sensor Output is triggered. 4 x 25mm metal mounting posts and 3mm screws. Loose Photocell and 10k ohm resistor. Installation & Adjustment 1. Mount the PCB in the Main Comfort CPU using the screws and pillars provided. 2. Connect the 12V and GND from Comfort to JP2 (12V/GND). Light ON DARK Light OFF DAYLIGHT VR1 3. Connect two wires from JP3 (O/P and GND) to one of Comfort s Inputs, taking care not to ensure polarity is correct, i.e. O/P to Comfort Input, GND to COM (common centre pin) on Comfort. The LSM output is open-collector, which means that when it is off (low light level), the output is an open circuit, and when it is ON (high light level), the output is shorted to ground (0V). 4. Connect the Light Sensor (photocell) to JP1 between IN and +. Connect the supplied resistor between IN and S-. This resistor matches the resistance of the Light Sensor at normal light conditions. The LSM may also be configured with the matching resistor fixed on the PCB (R2 position). The Light sensor may be located a long distance away from the LSM. Check the wire resistance does not exceed 100 ohms. 5. Do this adjustment at dusk OR cover the Light sensor to approximate dusk. The indicator LED (D2) should switch ON. If it is not, turn the trimmer VR1 clockwise (CW) until the LED JUST turns ON. Note the position of the trimmer wiper. 2

6. Place the light sensor where the ambient light conditions are brighter than the required threshold light level. The LED should be OFF. If not, adjust VR1 clockwise (CW) until the LED turns on. Note the position of the trimmer wiper. Now Adjust the trimmer so that it is between the two positions. The switching point is subject to hysteresis, i.e. when the LED turns on, the light level has to go some way below the point at which it turned on, in order to turn off. This is so that at the threshold light level, the output does not oscillate between on and off. 7. Test the switching in a real situation. 8. If you wish, the resistor may be soldered into position R2 on the PCB. 9. You can fit the photocell in the doorphone or within an external pir or camera. If siting within a camera or doorphone use the spare cores from the 8-core cable to remotely site the LSM photocell. Drill a 6mm hole underneath the camera, apply a blob of hot-melt glue inside the hole and push the photocell into the glue from the inside allowing a bead type lens to protrude slightly from the underside of the plastic. Programming (Default: Zone 13) ZONE TYPE: Zone Type 24 (normally closed). Sensitivity change to 850 ms 1. Program the Input connected to the LSM as Zone Type 24 (Normally Closed Switch). The Zone Settings Menu is in Engineer Menu 1. Some Comfort default response use the light sensor attached to zone 13. Response 126 (external X10 L1 ON for 3 mins) and Response 231 (Hall light X10 A1 ON during entry alert). 2. Program up to 4 words to describe the zone from the wordlist eg. Light Sensor Control. 3. Set Zone Type 24 Sensitivity to 850 ms (default = 100 ms) to that the zone state change has to be 850 ms minimum to be accepted. This reduces the chances of multiple transitions arounf the threshold light level 4. When the LSM changes state at dusk level the output turns OFF, the Comfort input will detect an OPEN condition, which can trigger the ON Response for Dusk applications. When the LSM output changes state at DAWN, the Comfort input will detect an CLOSED condition, and will trigger the OFF Response 5. Program the ON or OFF Response or both to perform the actions required. If the light level is to be used for checking a condition within other responses, use the actions (79,13,12) in front of your response, this means check zone 13 (light level) and exit if zero (light). The light sensor will return a value of 1 on the zone when darkness is detected. 6. A Timer Delay is recommended in order to counter the effect of multiple switching of the sensor at around dusk or dawn despite the hysteresis provided in the circuit. A sample program is found in the next section 7. To test, select Security Check (Keypad F+3, 2 or User Menu 3,4,2). In Security Check Mode, Comfort announces all zones which turn on. When the 3

Light Sensor Output turns on, Comfort should announce it, Light sensor Control 8. You may program Comfort to announce the zone when triggered (not in Security Check) by using Action 1 (Announce Zone) in a Response assigned to the zone ON response. To get Comfort to announce when the Light sensor turns off, Use Action 1 in a Response assigned to the OFF Response. Program Location 1689 with 229, which is the word for OFF. For example, you can set the Zone ON and OFF Response to 59, which has Action 1 to announce ON and OFF. See back page for troubleshooting. Light Sensor/Resistor The Light sensor and Resistor should be matched, especially if the light sensor is not supplied by Cytech Technology A suiitable Light Dependant Resistor (reference Farnell part number 7482280) specifications are as follow: * Resistor element type:light Dependent * Wavelength, spectral response peak:650nm * Voltage rating, DC:100V dc * Case style:radial * Depth, external:4.6mm * Diameter, lead:0.5mm * Length / Height, external:3.2mm * Length, lead:34mm * Power dissipation:50mw * Resistance, @ lux A max:100kr * Resistance, @ lux A min:50kr * Resistance, dark:5mr * Temperature, operating max:60 C * Temperature, operating min:-30 C * Wavelength, peak:550nm * Width, external:5.3mm At the required light level (ie dusk or dawn) measure the LDR resistance of the component when not connected to the LSM with a multimeter. This resistance should be matched to the vallue of external series resistor (in a range +/- 50%) If there is excessive switching of light sensor at the threshold light level, use a higher series resistor - tihis will reduce the sensitivity of the LSM to light. The Timer delay as described in the next section can also be used 4

Sample Response with Timer Delay This response uses 1 timer. The ON response will immediately do the required action without delay, when dark. The OFF Response activated when the sensor goes off, or when bright will start a timer, at the end of which the zone is checked, and if still Off (bright) will do the required actions. The timer delay is set at 180 seconds or 3 minutes. This can be changed as required Zone On Response: (Liight sensor detects dark) Do LightsOn [Lights On] Zone Off Response (Light sensor detects light) Do LightSensorOffDe [Light Sensor Off Delayed Response] After 180 Seconds Using LightSensorTMR Light Sensor Off Delayed Response (after Timer delay) If Input Zone13 = 0 Then Do Lights Off [Lights Off] End If 5

TROUBLESHOOTING 6 ELEMENTS WHICH GO TO MAKE UP 5 AUTOMATED LIGHTING RESPONSE BASED ON MOVEMENT AND LUX LSM01 ZONE 13 CHECK RESPONSE 4 ZONE ON 3 ACTION OUTPUT OR X10 SIGNAL - SWICHES LIGHT 1 MOVEMENT ZONE 2 If your design doesn t do what you expect it to do, you will need to troubleshoot it. The only effective way to do this is to break the chain of events down into logical stages and test each one individually. The above diagram shows the elements in a typical movement / LUX Level dependent scenario. Faults are usually caused by a simple mistake that has been made along the way. Here is the method to solve the above setup. It assumes that the function is being tested under simulated darkness Conditions. Either the sensor has been darkened with a covering or the LSM01 threshold sensitivity has been adjusted to simulate dark light conditions using VR1 pot. 1. Check the light operates manually using other means such as Home Control Menu or if X10 based, use Radio transmitter HR10 with TM12U. 2/3. Check the movement detector is programmed correctly with the correct zone type and response and working. Walk Test the sensor use menu F3/ 2. 4. Check the response is entered correctly using (Eng Menu 3,6). 5. Check the light sensor zone is programmed correctly with zone type 24 and that it the zone announces using Walk Test F+3, 2. 6. Check that the LSM01 is showing the red LED(D2) meaning it is Dark, if not turn the pot VR1 clockwise until it just illuminates. Remove the LSM01 output from the Light Sensor Zone Input by unplugging the terminal block. In this condition Comfort thinks it is dark, now test the calling response again by walking in front of the PIR. IMPORTANT: Responses CANNOT Operate while the system is in Security Check Mode (F3, 2). 6
