Long term vision PTC = 5x MORE SUSTAINABLE (BASED ON TNO RESEARCH, 2016)

Improving your Performance by saving Costs

Evolution 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190b 2014 Mercedes S

Evolution ~ 1900 healthcare laundry 1960 First CombiFolder 2014 healthcare laundry

Evolution Improved internal combustion and tailored hybrids reduce the fuel consumption Intelligent Drive detects dangers, warns visually, audibly, haptically and reinforces the driver s reaction. Intelligent networking, forward thinking systems expand on the existing safety and comfort aspects.

Evolution Equipment with focus on saving resources, ergonomics, working environment and easy maintenance Automation and integration of entire laundry process Intelligent networking, forward thinking systems expand on the existing safety and comfort aspects.

About the impact of these new perspectives Not only the cherry on the cake... But: Money in your pocket.

Improving your performance by saving costs Integrated manufacturing increases the productivity (RFID) Data Systems as efficiency tools Reducing labour cost by automated processing

Integrated manufacturing for increased productivity Example: Finishing Area

The average finishing process, 2017 Manual feeding of large pieces Slow Inefficient Unhygienic Roller-heated chests Needs too much energy Needs too much space Needs a large team of operators

Feeding of large pieces using clamps Fast and easy feeding by clipping corners into clamps 3 or 4 loading stations with clamps positioned vertically allow a high PPOH Pivoting spreading clamps deliver a straight leading edge into the feeder

Feeding of large pieces - cornerless Double feeding capacity by cornerless feeding and ergonomic working conditions One grip no clamps Typical feeding sheet per operator: 500 700 pieces/hour

Feeding of large pieces by separating large, heavy, entangled pieces Strenuous work lead to higher working and social costs High dependency on workers A fully automatic separation of large table and bed linen increases the productivity Capacity per hour (max.) 2200 single sheets 1500 duvet covers

...to the ironing section for even more opportunities to increase productivity...

Roller-heated ironers vs. FlexChest ironers

Investment Roller-heated ironers: FlexChest ironers: To process 700 kg of linen, you will need three conventional rollerheated ironers, plus the space to install them. To process 700 kg of linen, you need one finishing line with a flexible chest. Space-saving, compact design.

Cost savings - labor Roller-heated ironers: To process 700 kg of linen, a team of 12 persons is required. FlexChest ironers: You need 4 persons to feed the linen. Cost savings: 8 persons x annual salary = 1/3 of investment

Cost savings - energy Roller-heated ironers FlexChest ironers: The entire rollers are heated, causing tremendous heat losses. Temperature changes cause time losses and halt the production process Optimized evaporation capacity: The chest can be heated in a fraction of the time, and with a fraction of the energy required to heat rollers.

Cost savings - energy Roller-heated ironers 265 kg steam is required to heat from 20 C to 150 C at startup in the morning. FlexChest ironers: 40 kg steam is required to heat from 20 C to 190 C at start-up in the morning. Yearly savings (360 days): 81 000 kg steam

Optimum evaporation capacity Poorly insulated ironer: 35% radiation loss FlexChest ironers: 10% radiation loss only 39% evaporation capacity 65% evaporation capacity Optimum energy efficiency by minimum heat escape

More benefits of FlexChest ironers Higher capacity The flexible chest adapts to the roll like a band-brake. By doing this, a full contact angle is maintained. New business opportunity, high customer flexibility The temperature can be quickly changed when the production is switched to different products with individual thicknesses, e.g. sheets and duvet covers.

The economic way to perfectly finished linen Reduce your total energy bill by at least 50% Do not compromise on the finishing quality.

(RFID) Data Systems as Efficiency Tools Because Knowledge is Power.

Getting ready for Industry 4.0 Globe by Gotli Labs, our new Joint Venture www.gotlilabs.com

Getting ready for Industry 4.0 Globe Gotli Labs Operational Business Expert offers data recording, production visualization as well as time recording and planning. Globe is the most complete production management information system in the market today: It is the first system that can manage all resources in a laundry - machinery, utilities, energy as well as staff.

Jenfeed Express: 1800 pcs/h Record figures in CleanTech laundries: more throughput, higher availability: 0.8 kwh/kg resp. 1.76 kwh/lbs of linen Transparent figures thanks to Globe

Automated processing Example: Washroom area

Washing of large volumes with only stand-alone equipment Inefficient handling: Door open Load Close Choose program Wash Door open Unload Move to next machine

Washing of large volumes with only stand-alone equipment Expensive handling: Workers cost are increasing Social cost are increasing Good operators are difficult to find

Washing of large volumes with only stand-alone equipment Expensive operation: High water consumption Expensive energy bill

Washing of large volumes with only stand-alone equipment Lack of hygiene a problem in times of: Higher frequency of Noro viruses and MRSA infections Comeback of «old» diseases, such as tuberculosis and scabies

Requirements An automated solution that is built up like a road of individual machines, with total batch integrity and no colouring of the linen Top wash results, cost-efficient operation

The solutions A tunnel washer with automated loading A tunnel washer with loading belt

Important in tunnelwashers An extra shower in the first chamber for maximum soaking and best wash performance Monitoring and logging of ph/ conductivity value and water hardness - higher quality assurance, higher productivity

Important in tunnelwashers Rotary encoder for individual swiveling angles and level control for improved wash quality, less wear and tear, and lower energy consumption Excellent rinse processes for highest customer satisfaction

What to look for A versatile tunnel washer that reuses energy and water internally

What to look for Solid design with completely welded helix A partner that trains your staff on how to ensure total process security......through trainings on site and at the factory.

Benefits of Academy trainings Knowledge transfer Practical training with immediate feedback Keep up with the latest technical developments in a fast changing environment Stay competitive!

Training through documentation

Profile 5. Energy saving Energy saving in drying Energy consumption of the drying process is the major part of the total energy consumption of the laundry process, as shown in the energy balance The purpose of drying is to remove excess water from the textile products e.g. dry cotton in standard conditions still contains 6-8% water Drying is a 2-stage process Stage 1, mechanical dewatering Stage 2, thermal drying

Profile 5. Energy saving Energy saving in drying Mechanical dewatering - Fast, low level of energy consumption Thermal drying - Slow, high level of energy consumption Conclusion : Optimization of the dewatering step is a very effective way to minimize energy consumption for drying

Profile 5. Energy saving Energy saving in drying Optimizing of the dewatering process is possible by : Applying maximum pressure, however the maximum pressure is not only a machine parameter, but also depends on the laundry type Using sufficient pressure time; however, extended pressure times have hardly any extra effect on residual moisture Account for the time used to build up pressure Use dewatering presses with fast build-up of pressure Using high rinsing water temperatures, limitations of rinsing water temperature are connected to the applied washing process, the membrane of the press and the laundry type

Profile 5. Energy saving Energy saving in drying, new developments (1) Recovering of heat from drying air in tumble drying Research project TKT showed: - Up to 25 % energy savings - Shorter drying cycles - Stand alone application

Profile 5. Energy saving Energy saving in drying, new developments (2) Recovering of heat from ironers Research project TKT showed: - Up to 25 % energy savings in ironing - Heat used for heating up washing water - High level of process integration is required - Enabling technology for energy neutral washing

Profile 5. Life time of textiles Textile lifetime is a key element in textile services. A short lifetime, less usage cycles per product, means that more often new textiles have to be purchased. Textile lifetime has also an effect on energy consumption as it requires a lot of energy (and other resources like water) to produce e.g. 100% cotton. The energy content of 1 kg cotton is estimated to be 134 MJ/kg! A longer lifetime is beneficial for as well cost price as energy consumption.

Profile 5. Life time of textiles The lifetime of a textile product is determined by: 1. The composition of the textile material 2. The applied laundry process Both aspect will be discussed

Profile 5. Life time of textiles Laundry process and lifetime In a TKT- research project, textile wear was measured as a function of : 1. Bleaching (chlorine or oxygen bleaching) 2. Washing temperature 3. Number of washing cycles Some results are presented below

Profile 5. Life time of textiles Laundry process and lifetime Conclusions: Higher washing temperatures have a negative effect on product lifetime Bleaching has a negative effect on product lifetime Effect of chlorine bleach is more pronounced than that of oxygen bleach

Profile 5. Life time of textiles Composition of the textile material Most products in textile service are made of cotton and polyester and blends thereof. The higher the polyester content, the higher the lifetime in general is. Polyester can have negative influences on performance, e.g. comfort and moisture uptake.

Profile 5. Life time of textiles Overview properties cotton, polyester and their blends

Profile 5. Life time of textiles Composition of the textile material In a TKT-research project, the effect on the lifetime of the replacement of a 100% cotton towel by a towel with a polyester ground fabric and cotton pole yarns was investigated. First, it was established that the moisture take-up of the towel was not negatively influenced by the polyester in the ground fabric. So end-use performance was as good as the reference.

Profile 5. Life time of textiles Overview results 100% cotton towel PET/cotton towel Lifetime in cycles 70 79 Energy consumption production in MJ/towel.cycle Energy washing in MJ/towel 0,51 0,48 2,48 2,29 Energy savings in % - 8%

Profile 5. Life time of textiles Composition of the textile material Lifetime was prolonged from 70 to 79 cycles, by the introduction of the polyester in the ground fabric. Besides, significant energy savings were achieved at the drying process (up to 20%), as the residual moisture after dewatering is much lower due to the polyester.

New Equipment Technology to meet global trends

Trends in laundry by 2030 截至到 2030 年的洗涤行业趋势 The following slides are taken from a paper prepared by the Board for Washing Excellence in 2015. The aim of this paper is the identification of trends that will shape laundry washing by 2030, and their effects on it, based on the expert judgment of the members of the Board for Washing Excellence. The conclusions indicate that the demand for washing will rise; laundry hygiene will be a major issue; laundry machines will be technologically advanced and interconnected; textiles will be more functional, based on not only new fibre blends but also on nano- and micro- technologies, and will have electronic tags interacting with the laundry machines; the share of bio-based detergents and textiles will increase as an answer to the resource restrained World. Using extracts from this and other sources I will go into this more deeply. JEREMY OWENS 2016 Herbert Kannegiesser GmbH 23.10.2017 2

The world population continues to grow so the demand for laundry services will continue to be strong The rate of growth has fallen from its peak in the mid 1970 s The number of people aged 65 and above has increased by 60% since 1960 1960 年以来,65 岁及以上人口增加了 60% The number of people of working age peaked in 2010 and is slowly decreasing. In some regions the rate of decrease is much higher The number of people aged 0-14 has decreased by 30% since 1960 自 1960 年以来,0-14 岁的人口减少了 30% 2016 Herbert Kannegiesser GmbH 23.10.2017 4

As the global population is predicted to continue to rise between now and 2030, even taking into account the predicted growth in renewable energy sources it is clear that the provision of energy and water will continue to be an issue. Policies will therefore have to be developed to maximise the efficiency of equipment such as washing machines, water extraction press, dryers and flatwork ironers. Traditionally consumers have wanted the ability to take control of the washing machine and decide on variables such as wash temperature, wash duration and spin speed. In future, laundries may grow to accept that many products they interact with are best left to work on autopilot such as driverless cars. 2016 Herbert Kannegiesser GmbH 23.10.2017 5

By 2030, cotton production is expected to become increasingly constrained as water becomes scarcer, and pesticides more expensive and regulated. In addition to the farming practices, there are various stages, such as dying and others, in the cotton supply chain which raise environmental concerns in the recent years. In the light of the technological developments, as well as the challenges related to natural fibers especially cotton, it may be foreseen that in the near future environmental issues will have more impact on the industry. The increase in world population and the exhaustion of renewable resources will increase the need for new textile. New techniques and materials will evolve to help resolve problems and create better products. The diversity of textiles, colours, and fibres will create new challenges as shown in the next slide. 2016 Herbert Kannegiesser GmbH 23.10.2017 6

Global Trends - Internet of things For Laundry treatment this means that most of the textiles will be tagged. Currently these tags are in the form of RFID chips enabling Laundries to establish a database of their linen to control linen life and use ERP ( Enterprise resource management) systems to manage inventory and delivery of linen. The growing development of Apps for Mobile phones and tablets enable much faster communication between users and laundry companies. The development of Smart Laundry Systems (Industrial 4.0) to enable machine information connectivity passing on batch data information to monitor batches throughout the different process to automatically program machines downstream and identify different customer batches at the end of the process to avoid customer mixing 2016 Herbert Kannegiesser GmbH 23.10.2017 8

The hygienic requirements on a textile laundering process in 2030 will stand in an area of interaction of mainly two trends: The scarcity of the energy and water resources, and the increasing need for infection prevention measures Secondly, hygiene measures are needed to face the potential scenario that antibiotic resistances in bacteria will rise and spread and no substantially new effective antibiotics will be discovered. 2016 Herbert Kannegiesser GmbH 23.10.2017 9
