Designed and manufactured by KHD Suppliers and technical support located in Europe, USA, Australia, NZ, Japan Telephone +44 (0)1785 811443 info@steamtools.com www.steamtools.com Keith Handy Design Limited, UK Belt Cleaning Technology for the food industry Issue 5 Page "1

Description KHD has two types of portable systems for cleaning flat conveyor belts, Brush and Brushless. Both types are designed for cleaning flat belts (webs) in a wide range of environments, from dry environments where wet cleaning has to be avoided, to damp and wet environments. The systems use steam to break down debris and oils, sanitising as they work. An efficient vacuum draws away the debris and moisture to leave the belt dry. The Brushless System is best suited to cleaning light debris, oils and many confectionary products such as chocolate. The Brush System has a rotating food grade brush to help shift more stubbornly adhered debris, such as thicker deposits of caramel and pastry. The speed and ease in which the belt cleaners fit to each belt make these very cost-effective and useful belt cleaning solutions for multiple belts. The cleaning heads use the power of steam from portable steam generator technology without resorting to chemicals, using as little as 13-26 litres of tap water per hour. These are powerful and environmentally attractive tools for the food industry. Product Features Full width steam clean Vacuum removal of debris and moisture leaving the belt dry Portable and fully adjustable for use on different belts Good for dry environments Minimal water usage from only 13 litres per hour FDA contact materials Quick and easy set up Robust and hygienic design Benefits Improves line productivity (availability) Speeds-up conveyor cleaning Saves on maintenance and labour costs Frees-up sanitation staff Improves sterility kills microorganisms Maintains or increases product shelf life Extends life of conveyor belts Keith Handy Design Limited, UK Belt Cleaning Technology for the food industry Issue 5 Page "2

Steam Generator Steam for cleaning is typically generated using a generator such as the specially manufactured boiler for KHD by Doman. This powerful machine retains all the features for general steam cleaning, and is re-engineered to include features for working with KHD belt cleaning equipment. Alternatively we can use your steam suppy. As standard, the KHD Doman models have auto external water feed, auxiliary electrical socket for external equipment, simple interlock for integrating steam control to other equipment, 24VDC output for KHD equipment, panel control for steam functions, wetness control, high and low steam power, fine variable steam control, integrated 40L water tank, long life electrolytic water softener, factory visible alarm beacon, and centralised E Stop. No other portable steam generator has been this well thought out, and no other steam generator is uncompromisingly engineered for both specialised applications and general cleaning. KHD Doman models from 9kw to 72kW. Model shown is 18kW. Keith Handy Design Limited, UK Belt Cleaning Technology for the food industry Issue 5 Page "4

Conveyor Cleaning Head Steam from the generator is fed to the conveyor cleaning head for applying to the moving conveyor. A vacuum is attached to remove the debris and moisture. The KHD cleaning head has many design features that make this the most usable portable belt cleaners available for cleaning flat belts in the food industry. As standard the Brush and Brushless Systems are fully portable between different belts, fully and quickly adjustable for structure width, fully adjustable for Brush contact (brush version), 24VDC power (brush version) from the steam generator, simple operation, quick release steam connections, quick release 24VDC cord, low weight with robust hygienic construction. Brush and Brushless Systems are available to suit all sizes of conveyor Keith Handy Design Limited, UK Belt Cleaning Technology for the food industry Issue 5 Page "5

High temp Hansen quick release collars Virtually any size, and can be used on similar sized belts, to about 250 of the maximum designed width belt. Example: A belt cleaner designed to clean a maximum 850 belt will be suitable to clean belts around 600mm to 850mm wide. Note steam will be delivered over the vacant width, resultant moisture normally extracted by the vacuum. Standard arrangement uses a slim tray inserted under the belt and clamped to the conveyor structure. Unless otherwise specified the tray is supplied to fit a structure 200mm wider than the maximum designed belt width. The standard tray overhangs the maximum conveyor structure width by 100mm each side. Example: The standard arrangement for a belt cleaner designed to clean a maximum 850mm belt will clamp against the sides of a maximum 1050mm wide structure. The overall length of tray would be approximately 1250mm. Please note that the tray can be made to other proportions. Applications Suitability Comments Belt Type Plastic Mesh - Fine Use other models Plastic Mesh - Open Metal Mesh Use other models Use other models Consider using the Jet System for these types of belts Wire (ladder style) Modular Closed Flat-Top Continuous Flat Use other models Unknown Excellent Early prototypes successfully cleaned the contact surface of modular flat-top belts. Note, the reverse side cannot be adequately cleaned and may require a special version. The Brush and Brushless belt cleaners were specifically designed to clean these types of belts Belt Speed Slow Excellent Medium Excellent Fast Excellent Environment Dry Excellent The greater the contact time for steam the better and faster the debris removal. The type of debris has a significant impact on cleanability. Lightly adhered debris and dust type debris can be removed at higher belt speeds. The Jet System was specifically designed to clean in this difficult environment Damp Excellent As a general rule, if the cleaning regime is a factory wide foam clean and hose down there is limited potential. Using the system in this Wet Excellent environment will not eliminate need for wet cleaning with chemical.
