CERTIFICATION SCHEDULE EC TYPE-EXAMINATION CERTIFICATE Sira 09ATEX1341X Issue 1 13 DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT The 2500 IR Optical Bench is an industrial spectrophotometer measuring concentrations of fluids in the infrared or visible regions of the spectrum. The components of the system are a hot body to provide a radiation source (440 µw), an optical chopper and motor housed in a chopper box, a sample cell, a detector and associated electronics. The electronics are housed in two cast aluminium boxes, one at each end of the sample cell. A duct connects these two boxes. This duct acts as a chassis and carries cabling. Each of the end boxes has a hinged lid. The sample cell length varies with application. The end box containing the radiation source and optical chopper also contains an electronics assembly (power control board) to drive the radiation source, chopper motor, chopper box heater, and calibration/sample switching solenoid valves. The solenoid valves do not form part of the equipment. The end box containing the detector assembly also contains a mains transformer and an electronics assembly (transmitter board) for signal processing, into which plugs a switch mode power converter. The detector assembly includes a pre-amplifier. A microprocessor board, a sensor/interface board, a keypad and a display are mounted in the 2500 Optical Bench and into the transmitter board. The keypad and display are mounted on the hinged lid. An optional output board may be also fitted to the transmitter board and provides two volt free relay contacts and two isolated current/voltage outputs. The keypad and associated circuit is intrinsically safe. The design of the equipment may be modified by the addition of a gas filter adapter PCB or multicomponent adaptor, the equipment type number becomes 2510 or 2550 when these boards are used. Safety is achieved by purging the contents of the enclosures with a suitable quantity of protective gas (either air or an inert gas such as nitrogen, argon, etc.) prior to pressurisation and the eventual powering up of the equipment. The enclosures are of good mechanical strength and purging and pressurisation is controlled by a suitably certified purge controller. A Pressure Measuring System is intended for incorporation into the 2500 Series of Gas Analysers as an option and comprises a suitably certified pressure transducer and if certified under the Ex ia protection concept a suitably certified Power Supply. The Power Supply is to be located within the source end purged enclosure (non-hazardous area) with the Pressure Transmitter mounted on the outside of the 2500 Series Analyser in a potentially hazardous area. Electrical connections between the Power Supply and Pressure Transmitter, if fitted, are made by means of a cable having a maximum length of 2 metres. Access for the cable is provided by a suitable gland arrangement fitted into a wall of the source end enclosure. Intrinsic safety is assured by the limitation of voltage and current to the Pressure Transmitter. Variation 1 - This variation introduced the following changes: i. An alternative label material was allowed to be used. ii. A steam heated cell option was included, the marking being: Ex px ia [ia] IIC T4 Gb (Ta = -20 C +55 C). iii. The use of alternative mains filter mounting spacers was recognised. iv. Drawing number 02501/876J/0 was removed from the approved drawing list. This certificate and its schedules may only be reproduced in its entirety and without change.
