Niagara for Security Applications Integrating security within building automation systems brings added functionality and efficiencies to building operation Tridium are the global leaders in building systems integration. This increasingly includes security and video systems, as more building operators realise the value of converging their systems onto IP and fully integrating the functionality and visualisation displays. Security integration allows building managers to share and operate systems from one common user interface and to achieve effective system interoperability. For example, security events from access control and CCTV systems can be linked to lighting and HVAC systems to ensure more energy efficient day-to-day building operation, and greater safety in the event of an emergency. Whereas in building automation systems there has been a strong trend towards use of open standard networks, there are not yet established open standard protocols for security system operation. The result has been that integration is complex, expensive and time-consuming, or limited to one manufacturer providing all systems. Tridium offers two security solutions for integrated systems, both of which can deliver simpler and less expensive integration between different manufacturers products. Integrating different manufacturer systems Access Control For access control the OPC alarm and event driver enables integration with various manufacturer s systems (e.g. Cardax), while the obix driver supports other systems eg Honeywell Prowatch. Beyond that, Tridium develops manufacturer specific drivers as required commercially. The Niagara AX video driver already supports the full range of Dedicated Micros NetVu DVR s, Axis IP cameras, as well as Honeywell* and Milestone s DVM systems. More drivers are in development and will be available to support a wide diversity of security manufacturers equipment. 1 Integrating different manufacturers systems Security architecture Tridium offers a variety of effective, low-cost software drivers which integrate access control and video surveillance systems with other building systems using the Niagara AX Framework as the middleware system glue to link everything together. This software runs on security versions of our established JACE controllers, which are already installed in tens of thousands of locations around the world. For small sites, the security JACE is all you need as the identity database is stored in the JACE itself and the user displays are web served to any browser for the administration of the system. On large sites, a server based version of the security software coordinates the database across multiple JACEs, ensuring the solution is fully scalable to thousands of sites. System architecture With Niagara deployed worldwide, the core architecture of Enterprise Security is proven and designed to solve the complexities of integrating disparate systems in real world scenarios. Photo ID linking Vykon Security can be easily linked to photo ID card software applications, such HID s Assure ID product. This easy to use solution for the production of PhotoID cards links with Vykon Security via a shared SQL database. Fully integrated PhotoID within Vykon Security will be supported in a future release. In addition to controlling door access, Vykon Security can be used as a basic time and attendance system, providing reports on when users entered and exited the building, or particular areas. With the addition of occupancy detectors and other security devices connected via remote I/O modules Vykon Security can also function as an intruder detection system. Video security integration Niagara Video is an open video framework solution designed to integrate various manufacturers devices and protocols into a unified, smart facility management system. Built on Tridium s Niagara AX Framework, Niagara Video integrates with IP and analog based camera systems to create complete interoperability between video, security, lighting, energy management and building automation for any facility. System Components Vykon Security is fully scalable; from just one securityjace containing the application and database (avoiding the need for a dedicated PC) to large systems with multiple securityjaces all synchronised and administered using the Enterprise Security Supervisor running on a Windows PC or server. Support and Training Vykon Security is a smart appliance application designed to be easy to use without requiring much training or support. A full User Guide is included in the software with context sensitive help which answers most queries, and there is further help on the Tridium Europe web site. Additionally our partners can provide both training and support for Vykon Security users. For systems installers Tridium offers a 3 day Vykon Security training course either at our European Head Office, or at the partner's premises. Vykon Security is built on the Niagara AX Framework which enables integration with other systems and custom engineering in more complex applications. Extensive Access Zone Management In addition to common access control functions, enterprise security includes comprehensive rule based access control through access zone management. The system provides one click global lock down as well as supervisor rule enforcement thereby restricting access to areas unless appropriate supervisory staff are present. The extensive occupancy counting functions allow access restrictions based on maximum and minimum number of occupants. Occupancy data can be used to automatically adjust building comfort controls by leveraging the extensive facility integration capabilities. Access Zone management Powerful Integration Toolset A comprehensive, integrated toolset is a fundamental part of the Vykon Enterprise Security offering. The graphical toolset enables non-programmers (domain experts) to extend the capabilities of the standard product. Using the toolset, integrators can integrate Building Automation, Energy Management, Lighting Control and a wide range of custom solutions tailored to their end user s needs - all while working in a powerful drag-and-drop, graphical programming environment. Integration Control Strategy Intruder Detection Whilst Vykon Security includes modules and software features to enable it s use as an intruder alarm system, the Niagara Framework also allows integration with other manufacturers security systems. Niagara supports the SIA intruder panel protocol, as used by the Honeywell Galaxy systems. This interface enables the setting/unsetting of the panel by groups, presentation of alarms, reading of zone and output status, and commanding outputs.
