ssembling your Dyson vacuum cleaner Ensure the wand cap is closed. Ensure hose is kept straight when inserting wand into hose. rush tool Stair tool Crevice tool Slide hose into runners at back of machine and click into place. Click wand handle into top of machine. Click tools into place. Wind cable anti-clockwise around cable winders and secure with clip. Slide wand straight down in to hose until it clicks into place. 3

4 Using your Dyson vacuum cleaner D The machine is intended for domestic use only. Fine dust such as plaster dust should only be vacuumed in very small amounts. Do not press the cyclone release catch whilst carrying the machine or it could fall and cause injury. C Ensure the cyclone is secured to the machine. Do not shake the machine whilst carrying or it could fall and cause injury. 1 Keep hair and loose fabrics away from wand cap when machine is on. nti-jam brushbar (models with brush control) DC14 models without brush control are not suitable for hard floors, as the brushbar cannot be turned off. We recommend brush control models for homes with mixed flooring. Ensure the machine is fully upright before adjusting the setting. For hard floors For carpets 1 TM Plug in and press on/off button. Using your Dyson vacuum cleaner Ensure machine is in upright position before using tools. Ensure hair and loose clothing are kept clear of wand cap when machine is switched on. Ensure wand cap is closed, unless using with tools. Powerful suction can cause the hose to pull back. Please take care when cleaning stairs. C Wand mode Tools can be fitted directly to the end of the wand for hard-to-reach places. Hose mode With wand extended, press side buttons to remove wand handle from the hose. C The tools can be fitted directly to the end of the hose. Stair cleaning lways work with the machine at the bottom of the stairs. 5

6 Emptying the clear bin TM Turn power off and unplug before emptying the bin. Do not use the machine without TM the clear bin in place. The ritish llergy Foundation considers that this product may in proper use reduce exposure to both House Dust Mite (Der p 1) and Cat llergen (Fel d 1). It is strongly recommended that a sensitive person should take care when emptying the clear bin. We recommend the manufacturer's emptying instructions should be strictly followed. Empty bin as soon as the MX Option 1 Option 2 mark is reached. Press catch to release cyclone and bin from the machine. Push the button as shown to empty directly into dustbin. Emptying into bag is recommended for allergy sufferers. Place bin in bag and push button. Let the dust settle and close bin base securely before removing from bag and refitting bin on machine.

Cleaning the clear bin TM Do not use detergents, polishes or freshening products. Do not immerse the cleaner in water. Ensure the bin is completely dry before refitting. Cleaning the shroud (optional) Ensure bin is empty and bin base is open. Press catch to release the clear bin from the cyclone. Clean shroud with a cloth or dry brush to remove fluff. Cleaning the clear bin TM (optional) Ensure bin is empty and bin base is open. Rinse with cold water only. Ensure bin is dry before replacing. Re-assembling the clear bin TM Holding carry handle, fit cyclone assembly inside the bin. Line up the front and rear guides and push down to secure. 7

8 Washing the filter at least every 6 months Turn power off and unplug before emptying the bin Check your filter regularly and wash at least every six months. The filter may require more frequent washing if vacuuming C fine dust. Do not use the machine without the filter in place. Do not use detergent. Do not put the filter in the dishwasher, washing machine, oven, tumble dryer, microwave or near a naked flame. Remove cyclone from machine. Press catch to release cyclone pack. ccessing the filter Washing the filter Lift filter release catch and remove filter from machine. Separate blue filter and yellow case. Wash filter and case in cold water only. Only wash blue foam and yellow case. Do not use detergent. Do not put the filter assembly in the dishwasher, washing machine, oven, tumble dryer, microwave or near a naked flame. Wash filter and case in cold water only. Repeat until water runs clear. C Dry for at least 12 hours or overnight. Ensure filter is completely dry before refitting onto the machine.

Finding blockages Turn power off and unplug before checking for blockages. If any part of the machine D becomes blocked, it may automatically shut off. Unplug machine and clear blockage before restarting. Please note: Clearing blockages is not covered by your machine s guarantee. (Keep your proof of purchase safe.) eware of sharp objects when clearing blockages. C Refit all parts of the machine securely before using it. On models with brush control, a ratchet noise warns that the brushbar is obstructed. Ensure machine is disconnected from the power supply before clearing the obstruction. Check tools, wand and hose are clear of blockages. To remove the hose, press hose release button at front of machine and slide hose out. U bend inspection rushbar obstructions C Tilt machine forward, slide out U bend and check inside for blockages. Remove wand and cyclone assembly and turn machine upside down. irway inspection valve D Squeeze release catches and check inside for blockages. Undo fasteners using a coin and remove soleplate. Remove fluff and hair from brushbar. Rest the 3 tabs on inside of yellow bumper and replace soleplate, tightening the fasteners. Ensure soleplate is in correct position before use. 9

10 Changing/fitting the belt (machines without brush control) Turn power off, unplug machine and allow machine to cool for 1 hour before changing/fitting belt. C E Ensure soleplate is in correct position before use. D F Remove wand and cyclone assembly Remove fluff and hair from C To replace the belt, remove the E Rest the 3 tabs on inside of and turn machine upside down. Maintaining the mini turbine head (supplied with certain models or available as an accessory) Remove mini turbine head from machine before carrying out maintenance. C D Release catches and remove the soleplate. Remove both brushbars and clear away thread and hair. C To re-assemble, match the arrows on the brushbar to the arrows on the central support. D lign front of soleplate with front of tool and secure all 2 catches. 11

Important Information Take care to ensure objects or body parts are not inserted into the cleaner head. This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance. The plug must be removed from the socket outlet before cleaning or maintaining the appliance. Check to ensure your electricity supply corresponds to that shown on the rating plate, which can be found underneath the machine between the wheels. The machine must only be used as rated. If the supply cable or the cleaner is damaged, disconnect from the socket immediately. The cable must be replaced by Dyson Ltd or our appointed agent to avoid a hazard. Do not use the cleaner if the cable or plug are damaged or if the cleaner has been damaged, dropped or has come in to contact with water or any other liquid. In these cases, contact the Helpline. When vacuuming, certain carpets may generate small static charges in the clear bin. These are entirely harmless and not associated with the power supply. Do not use the cleaner if any parts appear to be faulty, missing or damaged. Do not carry out any maintenance work other than that shown in this manual or advised by the Helpline, and do not put anything into the openings or moving parts of the machine. Only use parts recommended by Dyson; failure to do so could invalidate your guarantee. If you have a query about your Dyson, call the Dyson Helpline with your serial number, which can be found on the rating plate underneath the machine.
