What are Grassmats? A multi- functional engineered rubber safety surface mat with fall protection certification and ground protection qualities. Made from 30% RECYCLED rubber. Grassmats have been sold with great success in the UK for 12 years. With approximately 36,000 mats sold each year. Grassmats were introduced into the US market in 2015, all test certification applicable to the U.S. market has been received. Grassmats have just recently been introduced into the Canadian market. What are some applications for Grassmats Playground safety surfacing (and ground wear prevention) Path and track way surfacing incl. handicapped access. Especially in environmentally sensitive areas where a natural grass vista needs to be preserved. Anti- slip deck mats on boats and quayside. Slipway mats Entrance mats Temporary event pathways and flooring Anti- fatigue and anti- slip mats behind catering outlets and bars Awning mats for motorhomes / caravans Snow mats for ski resorts Playground matting- can you explain more about playground fall height ratings for Grassmats? Grass Mats in Playgrounds 3m Critical Fall Heights (CFH) are often quoted but are also often misunderstood by customers. So, what does a CFH of 3m (10ft) actually mean? It means that, when tested in accordance with BS EN 1177:2008, a test height of 3m (10ft) provided a HIC (Head Injury Criterion) value of 1000. The British Standard states that the HIC value must not exceed 1000, a number whereby it is deemed unlikely that fatal or disabling injuries will occur. When a fall was simulated from a height of 3m (10ft) onto our mats a HIC value of only 550 was recorded. To put that into figures: If you fell onto a surface from 3m (10ft) and the HIC value recorded was 1000, the limit set by the British Standard, figures suggest that you would be 90% likely to sustain a

moderate injury. If you fell onto our Grassmats from 3m you would only record a HIC value of 550. Figures suggest that at this value there is only a 45% chance of moderate injury. Should Grassmats always be installed over grass? Not necessarily. They can be laid on a variety of surfaces from concrete to snow to provide a compliant safe surface. Note that fall height protection varies with the underlying surface. For instance mats laid on asphalt would only have a fall height rating for 1M (3.3 ft.) not 3M (10 ft.) What kind of grass can they be installed on? Bermuda is common in The South, Rye grass, Fescue or Bluegrass up North and Centipede/St. Augustine in Florida (very thick thatch). They can be installed effectively on any type of grass, best to cut grass as short as possible before installation as this assists with rapid growth through and meshing of the mat into the sward. Not that mats can't be lifted and relayed if needed for particularly thick sward grass types. This keeps the mat nearer to the surface. Should the grass be cut down? Yes, to help with Installations. Can it be installed on sand? Yes. Regular lifting may be required to keep the mats on the surface if the sand is soft and is not contained to prevent migration, but they have been used for beach access ways. Double layering of the mats is another solution or the underlying mesh and the Grassmats over the top. Can it be installed on mulch? Yes - But pegging is not possible. Mats tied together tend not to go anywhere due to the weight of the mats. Use Zip (cable) ties to join together. Can they be installed on dirt? Yes. Lifting and relaying mat be required if surface is fine and loose. Use underlying mesh to help prevent this if required. Explain the ground preparation required- do we need to have a compacted stone base/crushed stone base? Hard base not necessarily needed and actually reduces fall height protection. See install guide.

Does the system float & expand/contract in different weather conditions? They do expand in heat but do not become brittle in the cold, allow some room for expansion on installation, depending on ambient temperature upon installation. Accessibility standards- is this product wheelchair accessible? Yes- Grassmats meets ADA standards. Copies of certificates, available upon request. Is it accessible after grass has grown through it? Yes, if grass is mown short. In playground industry, our playgrounds have to be installed with wheelchair access to >50% of the components. What s the warranty? 5 years against faulty manufacture Can they be shaped/formed to curved area? Yes, use a box knife to shape. Many customers on boats cut the mats to fit. How can we attach to a curved edge? Edges normally tucked under other surfaces to prevent trip hazards. Specific details needed of other types of attachment plans. Could be screwed or nailed through. Explain the edge installation; See install guide available on request. Do we need to put a landscape fabric or mesh underneath? Mesh underneath for added load spread in softer ground conditions or where traffic likely to be high. Need to look at each projects conditions to see if needed. Golf clubs often use mesh below mats for golf cart tracks. What size are the Grassmats? 5ft x 3.3ft Do you know how thick they are? 0.9"thick. Are the mats recycled? Yes, made from 30% recycled rubber. Are they available in other colors?

No, they come in Black only. TEST CASE- If a customer has existing sand, or wood mulch, can Grassmats be placed on the material as a floating system, or would you recommend excavating mulch to a compacted surface before installing the mats. Mats could be floated on mulch when tied together - depends on how soft and deep existing mulch is under mesh may be required to help stabilize the mulch. Are they slip resistant? Yes If applied directly over grass, does the grass need to be mowed continually? You do not have to mow continually it depends what you want the area to look like. Long grass may affect wheelchair access? Can you explain the installation process? HOW TO INSTALL: INSTALLATION, LEVELING & COMPACTION The Grassmat surface was laid over an existing level lawn area. The Grassmat panels were attached to each other using zip ties. The Grassmat was staked down to the existing lawn using the supplied stakes. The grass in the lawn area was cut to a length of 1.5 to 2.0 inches above the soil 5 days prior to testing. Remove any stones or debris from the area. A We recommend using a rake B Lay out your mats flush to each other, one row at a time, until the desired area is covered. C The mats now need to be cable tied together on all adjoining edges. As a guide there should be roughly 1 cable tie through every 5th hole. D Fold back the perimeter edges of the rectangle of mats and dig a wedge shaped channel around 4 deep. E Unfold the mats back down and into the channel. F Peg each corner of the mats into the sloped side of the channel before filling the channel with soil to bring it up to the level. G You now have a solid rectangle of mats secured at all edges. H Peg down mats in the middle of the rectangle as you see necessary. WHEN TO USE A MESH LINER- GRASSMATS MESH LINER: In situations where rubber grass mats are being installed onto an existing surface, which is already muddy, or prone to becoming excessively soft during

the winter months, you may wish to consider installing our underlay mesh beneath the mats. The fine 6mm x 8mm mesh helps to spread loads across a greater surface area helping to prevent the mats from sinking down in to the ground. CAN WE USE A LANDSCAPE FABRIC IN PLACE OF THE MESH LINER? STAKING: are the landscaping stakes provided sufficient to keep the system in place, or would you recommend a more durable option, e.g. landscape stakes? Plastic 140mm pegs ideal for holding down rubber Grassmats or lighter grades of mesh are available.
