South Gloucestershire u Heneage Court is situated on the edge of the village of Falfield in the centre of the Berkeley Vale. The popular market towns of Thornbury (5 miles) and Wotton under Edge (6 miles) provide for every day requirements and are all located between the River Severn and the Cotswold Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) providing a variety of stunning landscapes in a relatively small area. u Within the locality there are excellent shopping and recreational facilities such as the Cribbs Causeway Shopping Centre and a first rate variety of schools and colleges. Nearby major centres include Cheltenham, Gloucester, Bath, Bristol and Cirencester. u The property is located close to Junction 14 of the M5 which is about 4 miles from the Almondsbury interchange providing excellent links to the West Country, South Wales and London via the M4 Corridor. There are railway links to London Paddington from Bristol Parkway (about 90 minutes) or locally at Cam and Dursley Station. Bristol and Birmingham International Airports, and Staverton Airfield are also easily accessible. u There is no shortage of sporting activities in the area including polo at Westonbirt, racing at Cheltenham, Chepstow and Bath, hunting with The Berkeley and Wick Hounds, golf at Bristol, Cotswold Edge and Minchinhampton, premiership rugby at Gloucester and Bath, motorsport at Castle Combe, and water sports in the Cotswold Water Park. Heneage Court u Heneage Court sits within approximately 60 acres overlooking ancient pasture land, its own lake and mature deciduous woodland. The property is approached by a quiet lane off the A38 through a pair of impressive stone entrance pillars and a holly hedge-lined drive leading to the country residence. The drive splits leading to the side of the property, stable yard and estate buildings providing ample parking for visitors and guests. u The original property dates from the 17th century is Grade II Listed and is believed to have been built just before the Civil War. The most recent alterations have been carried out by the current owner in the 1980s including the creation of a large lake which the main house overlooks and swimming pool and leisure complex. u The beautiful grounds were remodelled in 1913 and have been maintained ever since providing sensational gardens including flagged stone paths to terraced lawns, orchards and water gardens with an ornamental foot bridge over the lily pond. In the corner of the garden is a stone sun loggia which commands fabulous views over the property which is dissected by hedges and mature oak trees. All provide a sensational setting throughout the seasons.

Historical note u Little is known of the early history of this house or its owners, except that, on the attainder of Edward, Duke of Buckingham Henry VIII granted it to a Thomas Henneage. However, the Henneages do not seem to have remained in possession for long and in 1649 Richard Allen, a fuller of Bath, sold to Thomas Skey a messuage of land at Falfield. The deeds referred to the house as newly erected and for the next 150 years the property seems to have remained in the hands of the Skeys whose name is still perpetuated in Skey s Copse and upon a circular stone basin of an old cider mill still present, dated 1707 and bearing the initials W.S. u In 1803 William Skey, the last of the male line, died leaving a daughter Jane as a sole heiress and in 1810 Jane married Peter Edward Scobell of Penzance. Jane moved to Penzance and Heneage Court was then a let farm causing it to suffer neglectful treatment and rough usage. When bought by the well known Bristolian Mr Russell Thomas in 1912 he instructed its repair and enlargement through his architect, Mr Edward Warren. So as not to impair its original style and character, the dwelling was entirely reroofed with Gloucestershire Slates from Stonesfield. The fine old panelling still present today was restored as was an 18th century chimney piece in oblation style taken from a house at Bristol and installed in the Drawing Room.
