2017-2018 Snow Mold Control Evlution: Mrquette Golf Club Mrquette, MI Kurt Hockemeyer nd Pul Koch, Ph.D. Deprtment of Plnt Pthology University of Wisconsin-Mdison OBJECTIVE To evlute fungicides for the control of Typhul blight (cused by Typhul incrnt) nd Microdochium ptch (cused by Microdochium nivle) on golf course turfgrss. MATERIALS AND METHODS This evlution ws conducted t Mrquette Golf Club in Mrquette, MI on creeping bentgrss (Agrostis stolonifer) nd nnul bluegrss (Po nnu) golf course firwy mintined t height of 0.5 inches. Individul plots mesured 3 ft x 10 ft nd were rrnged in rndomized complete block design with four replictions. Individul tretments were pplied t nozzle pressure of 40 p.s.i using CO2-pressurized boom spryer equipped with two XR Teejet AI8004 VS nozzles. All fungicides were gitted by hnd nd pplied in the equivlent of 1.5 gllons of wter per 1000 ft 2. Grnulr pplictions were mde by evenly spreding pre-weighed mount of product over the designted plots. pplictions were mde on 12 Oct 2017 nd lte pplictions were mde on 6 Nov 2017. The experimentl plot re ws not inoculted. Snow cover ws present from mid November through lte April, totl of pproximtely 170 dys. severity, turf qulity, nd color were mesured on 30 Apr 2018. severity ws visully rted s percent re ffected, turfgrss qulity ws visully rted on 1-9 scle with 6 being cceptble, nd chlorophyll content (turfgrss color) ws rted using FieldScout CM 1000 Chlorophyll Meter from Spectrum Technologies, Inc. (Auror, IL). mens were nlyzed using Fisher s LSD method nd re presented in Tble 1. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Nontreted controls verged 99% disese, indicting extremely high disese pressure. On verge bout 75% of the disese present ws cused by T. ishikriensis nd 25% ws cused by M. nivle. Any tretment providing greter thn 90% control under these circumstnces performed exceptionlly well, nd there were surprising 22 tretments tht met this stndrd. In ddition, ny tretment providing greter thn 80% control in this tril will provide good control under most environments, nd there were nother 10 tretments tht met tht stndrd. Turf qulity nd turf color mostly reflected disese severity, though visible phytotoxicity ws observed with tretment 72.
