M-500 COMMERCIAL WEB PRESS SYSTEMS
2 introduction
WITH PROVEN PRINT QUALITY AND EASE-OF-USE FEATURES, THE M-500 PRESS DELIVERS AN IMPRESSIVE COMBINATION OF PERFORMANCE, VALUE AND VERSATILITY. 3 Print quality expectations and turnaround times are becoming more demanding. Productivity, reliability and simplified operability are becoming more essential. For commercial printers evaluating press requirements based on these market conditions, the Goss M-500 system continues to emerge as a top choice around the world. Adept at a wide range of run lengths, the M-500 press offers a well earned reputation for print quality and a long list of proven features in 16-page as well as half-web formats. Affordability and a straight-forward design also make this an easy press to own and operate. Versatility is another M-500 press hallmark. Printers ranging from large web operations to smaller companies adding their first web system choose this press as a high-quality solution for magazines, catalogs, books, direct mail products and general commercial printing. Versatility also makes the M-500 press an especially attractive option for printers that rely on a single web press to produce multiple formats and jobs.
quality and reliability 4 PROVEN, HIGH-QUALITY DESIGN FEATURES MAKE IT EASIER TO ACHIEVE EXCEPTIONAL PRINT QUALITY AND PRODUCTIVITY. M-500 printing units were designed according to two key criteria. They had to measure up to the rigorous, long-term reliability standards that define every Goss web press and they had to incorporate proven features for high print quality and simplified operation. Goss International started with fundamental features like cast iron frames utilizing boxtype construction, shaftless drives, a one-toone in-line cylinder stack, hardened stainless steel bearers and a 14-roll inker for reliable and consistent print quality. Because fast, efficient makereadies are essential, the M-500 press is also equipped with single sided quick-toggle plate lockups and motorized cylinder adjustment capabilities. Additional performance features include Goss Omnicon controls, regenerative braking, automatic lubrication and a fully interlocking guard system. The result is a press system that is easy to operate and maintain through the busiest production schedules and one printing companies can depended on for long-term durability.

folding options 6 SEVERAL OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE, PROVIDING THE OPPORTUNTITY TO CUSTOMIZE AN M-500 PRESS FOR SPECIFIC PRODUCT AND MARKET REQUIREMENTS. The leading choice is the JF-40, a singlechopper combination folder capable of matching the 40,000 impressions per hour M-500 press speed over a wide range of products and stock weights. This model features cast iron construction, circulating oil lubrication, an automatic grease system and fast manual changeover capabilities with no tools required. The compensator, nip roll pressure, lap adjustment, quarterfold blade timing and vacuum slowdown can all be controlled on the run. JF-40 options include angle bars for increased product versatility and a double-parallel and delta fold feature with pneumatic push-button changeover capabilities. Adding a 4/8 page pinless module extends the versatility, allowing an M-500 press to produce four- or eight-page magazine signatures open on three sides, with or without a lap.
The JF-40 combination folder (LEFT) can be equipped to produce up to 18 product formats. An optional 4/8 page module increases the versatility, producing magazine signatures open on three sides. 7 Additional options The JF-35 C combination folder is an ideal fit for M-500 presses running more than two webs, offering the ability to produce standard commercial products as well as tabloid and broadsheet formats. The durable and accurate 2FF double former folder is also available, providing multiple pagination and delivery options for M-500 presses that are used primarily for magazine printing. Many companies also opt to configure full- and half-web M-500 presses with sheeters and in-line finishing systems.
controls 8 OMNICON CONTROLS AND THE GOSS WEB CENTER WORKFLOW PROVIDE A POWERFUL, MODULAR SYSTEM TO OPTIMIZE M-500 PRESS PERFORMANCE. Precision, automation and integration are the defining characteristics of the Goss Omnicon press control system. As the name implies, this innovative system does it all including complete component control, preset storage and retrieval, optimized job planning and production data management. The user-friendly Windows based operating system allows operators to monitor and manage a wide range of press, folder and auxiliary functions and provides varying levels of automation, according to user preference. The Omni Color remote color control feature includes a touch-screen display for precise inker control and presetting. Open architecture also makes it easy to integrate closed-loop control systems, and an optional prepress gateway can accept CIP-4 files for automated ink key setting, integrating the M-500 press with the most modern digital workflows. A standard Omnicon connection links each press system with Goss International service personnel for continuous monitoring, and the Goss Web Center workflow system offers optional modules for automated job preparation, waste reduction, data collection and digital communication.
splicing & drying FULL INTEGRATION of auxiliaries ADDS TO THE EFFICIENCY AND PRODUCTIVITY OF M-500 PRESSES. 9 Goss Contiweb SH40 splicers The Contiweb SH40 splicer with integrated infeed delivers optimum web tension, smooth acceleration and deceleration, easy operation and proven zero-speed reliability at any roll diameter. Advantages include: Speeds up to 8 meters per second (1,575 feet per minute) Web widths up to 1016 millimeters (40 inches) Ecotherm and Ecoweb dryers Two Goss dryers complement the M-500 press, providing high print quality and low operating costs. The Ecotherm model pioneered integrated pollution control, and the Ecoweb dryer is designed for use with central pollution control systems. Both feature exclusive Goss exhaust recirculation technology that captures air containing the evaporated ink solvents and uses it to fuel the burners, reducing gas consumption by up to 30 percent. Goss dryers also operate at lower temperatures and with higher air volumes for higher gloss, less fiber lifting and less corrugation. The patented Goss cross-jet airbar system keeps the web flatter and prevents large sine wave motions. The resulting lateral stability decreases the risk of web breaks, even with narrow or off-center webs. Motorized dancer and pull roll Microprocessor control and remote diagnostics Optional automated roll handling and production data management systems
configuration flexibility 10 SEVERAL CONFIGURATIONS ARE POSSIBLE, AND THE M-500 PRESS BRINGS FULL-WEB DESIGN FEATURES TO THE HALF-WEB SECTOR. Goss International offers two options based on the M-500 platform incorporating all of the high-quality design features of the full-web model. A standard eight-page, half-web M-500 press has a 508 millimeter (20-inch) web width, while a 12-page version accommodates webs up to 673 millimeters (26.5 inches) wide. Both presses are available in cutoffs up to 584 millimeters (23 inches) and can be paired with the JF-40 combination folder to produce a wide range of products. These half-web M-500 presses also excel with sheeters and inline finishing configurations. 29.5 M - approx. (97 ) 8 units, 2 webs, duplexed (shown from above)
