Standard Exterior Painted Steel Finishes and Constructions All unit models are available in a variety of colors including Beige, White, Buckeye Gray, Desert Brown, and Dark Bronze. See unit specifications for exact colors offered for each model. Painted steel finishes are very resilient regarding scratches and abrasions. They also offer excellent corrosion protection under most application conditions where the unit is not exposed to harsh chemicals, salt spray, or other severe environmental conditions. Exterior cabinets of standard Bard HVAC products are constructed with 16, 18, or 20 gauge zinc coated steel that is cleaned, rinsed, sealed and dried prior to a polyurethane primer being applied, followed by a baked on textured enamel. This coating system has been tested to 1000 hours exposure time per ASTM B 117-003 testing standards. Exterior cabinet screws and fasteners use a Magni 550 coating system. Parts coated to this specification are capable of withstanding neutral salt spray testing for a minimum of 1000 hours with no red rust. Exterior Aluminum Finish and Construction Aluminum exterior finish cabinets are often selected for reduction in unit weight, and corrosion resistance. Aluminum exterior finish cabinets are available for most unit models. The exterior sides, door panels, and service access doors are of a stucco textured Aluminum 3003 H14 material with excellent corrosion resistance. Exterior cabinet screws and fasteners use a Magni 550 coating system. Exterior Stainless Steel Finish and Construction Exterior Stainless Steel finish cabinets are often selected for corrosion and chemical resistance. Higher grades of stainless steel are often specified to meet the requirements of harsh environments. Units may not only be exposed to windblown dust, dirt, lint, and fibers but also may be exposed to corrosive agents. The Bard stainless steel unit offers a high quality stainless steel grade enclosure and fasteners for years of operation in these conditions. Features: Sides, doors, grilles, back panels, and top are 316 grade stainless steel. Base, condenser partition, and fan shroud are 304 grade stainless steel. Stainless steel exterior cabinet screws, washers, nuts, and bolts are used. Stainless steel outdoor motor mount and motor mount hardware. Compressor mounting hardware is stainless steel and hex no-spin rivet nuts are used in the unit base. Corrosion resistant coating is applied to fan blade. Bard highly suggests units exposed to extremely harsh environments, high quantities of airborne dirt and dust, or sprayed with water hose and splashing water be ordered with the Blank Off Plate (BOP) ventilation option. The BOP ventilation option installs plates over the fresh air intake and exhaust openings. Coil Only Coating Options Evaporator and Condenser Coil Coating Options All models use a standard aluminum fin copper hairpin evaporator and condenser coil. An additional corrosion resistant coating may be ordered for the evaporator coil, condenser coil, or both evaporator and condenser coils. Phenolic Coated coils will withstand exposure to many corrosive atmospheres with the exception of strong alkalis, strong oxidizers, wet bromine, and chlorine and fluorine in concentrations greater than 100 ppm (part per million). Because the resistance is dependent upon the environment and unit application, contact Bard for job specific recommendations. Two options are available to offer additional equipment protection for applications in chemical processing, fertilizer storage areas, power plants, petroleum refineries, pulp and paper mills, water and sewage treatment plants and mining operations. Highest Level of Protection. 4= Exterior Unit Cabinet & Condenser Section - The 4 option unit contains our corrosion resistance phenolic coated coils and a coated unit condenser section. By coating the condenser section, the copper tubing, motor mount, sheet metal parts, filter/drier and compressor housing in the condenser area are protected with a epoxy semi-gloss coating. 5= Exterior & Interior - The 5 option unit contains our corrosion resistance phenolic coated coils and is both internally and externally coated. By coating the interior and exterior of the unit, the copper tubing, motor mount, sheet metal parts, filter/drier, compressor housing, blower assembly, and any optional ventilation features are protected with a epoxy semi-gloss coating. This is the highest level of protection available. It is required for applications where the internal and external features of the unit are exposed to a high level of salt or corrosive chemicals. Enginering Specification for Coating Process and Materials Coils: 1. The condenser (and/or) evaporator coil(s) shall be coated with Blygold PoluAl XT by a certified licensed applicator. The coating product manufacturer shall be able to document a Class 5B result on a Cross Hatch Adhesion Test (ASTM D5339) and the successful completion of accelerated product testing for a minimum 4000 hours in both salt spray (ASTM B117) and acid salt spray (ASTM G85) tests. Blygold PoluAlXT aluminum-impregnated polyurethane coil coating shall be applied ensuring total penetration and coverage without bridging or significantly affecting the heat transfer ability of the coil. The total dry film thickness of the coating shall be 25 microns (1 mil). The coating shall provide inherent protection against ultraviolet radiation and have a dry temperature resistance from -4 F to 302 F (-20 C to 150 C). Refrigerant Circuit and Casing/Cabinets: 2. The refrigerant circuit, piping and equipment components, and all exposed metal surfaces including the exterior (and/or) interior casing/cabinets are to be coated with Devoe Devran 224HS high-build epoxy & Devoe Devthane 379UV A high-gloss aliphatic urethane. The objective is to coat all piping, equipment components and exterior (and/or) interior sheet metal with a protective coating.
