SECTION 31 10 00 - SITE CLEARING PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY A. Section includes removal of surface debris; removal of paving, curbs, sidewalks; removal of trees, shrubs, and other plant life; removal of underground storage tanks; and removal of abandoned utilities. B. Related Sections: 1. Section 32 14 40 Stone Paving. PART 2 - PRODUCTS NOT USED PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION A. Verify that existing plant life designated to remain is tagged or identified. B. Removed materials are to be removed from the site and disposed of in a lawful manner. 3.2 PROTECTION A. Locate, identify, and protect utilities from damage that are to remain. B. Protect trees, plant growth, and features designated to remain. C. Protect benchmarks, survey control points, and existing structures from damage or displacement. 3.3 CLEARING A. Clear areas required for access to site and execution of Work. B. Remove trees and shrubs indicated and in a manner specified on the drawings or in these specifications. Remove tree and shrub root bulbs in their entirety and to a maximum root diameter of one inch. 3.4 REMOVAL A. Remove debris, rock, and extracted plant life from site to the limits indicated on the drawings and/or as required for proposed work. 3.5 TOPSOIL EXCAVATION A. SECTION 32 14 40 STONE PAVING PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS: A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division-1 Specification sections, apply to work of this section. 1.02 DESCRIPTION OF WORK: A. The extent of work in this Section includes the provision and installation of the following paving materials, base foundations and appurtenances required for installation. B. The general extent of work for this Section is shown on the drawings and includes, but is not limited to, the following: 1. ¾ Gravel, Red Lava. 2. 1 Mexican Pebbles. 3. Boulders. 4. Blue Fines. 5. Metal Edging. 6. Mulch, Red Pro-Chip. 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. All manufactured items shall be inspected and approved upon delivery. B. Protect from damage and intrusion of deleterious materials during delivery, handling, storage, and installation. 1.04 SUBMITTALS: A. Contractor shall submit a one (1) quart sample indicating variation of size and color of stone paving to be installed only for proposed product substitutions. 1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING: A. Store stone paving material in a secure location. Coordinate with General Contractor for available stockpile location. 1.06 PROJECT CONDITIONS: A. Protection of Work: Protect work from trespass until unstable surfaces have cured. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS: ANLA Stone Paving 32 14 40-1

Crushed Granite (blue fines): Crushed granite fines to be ½ x 10 blue-gray colored fines, available through U-Save Rockery, www.usaverockerysj.com, (408) 293-8797. D. Boulders: 30 x 30 x 30 Field Stone available from U-Save Rockery, www.usaverockerysj.com (408) 293-8797, E. Mulch, Redwood Pro-chip, red color: U-Save Rockery, www.usaverockerysj.com, or approved equal. 2.02 ACCESSORIES: A. Filter Fabric: Mirafe 140N Non-Woven Polypropylene Geotextile fabric for separation and drainage. B. Metal Edgings: Permaloc Cleanline commercial grade landscape edging, aluminum maintenance strip to be 1/8 thickness, 3 high, black in color, length as required, use manufacturer recommended 12 aluminum stakes. C. Pre-emergent Herbicide Ronstar G Pre-emergent Herbicide by Bayer available from Horizon Distributors, Inc., www.horizononline.com. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION: A. ¾ Gravel, Red Lava: 1. Prepare and compact subgrade to 95% relative density. 2. Apply filter fabric per manufacturer recommendations. 3. Spread ¾ Red Lava to 3 depth, unless indicated otherwise on plans and/or details. 4. Fine grade surface to a smooth, uniform plane, flush with adjacent finish grade elevations. 5. Fine mist spray surface clean. B. Mexican Pebbles: 1. Prepare and compact subgrade to 95% relative density. 2. Apply filter fabric per manufacturer recommendations. 3. Spread Mexican Pebbles to 3 depth, unless indicated otherwise on plans and/or details. 4. Fine grade surface to a smooth, uniform plane, flush with adjacent finish grade elevations. 2-32 14 40 Stone Paving - ANLA

5. Fine mist spray surface clean. C. Boulders: Install as detailed on Drawings, buried approximately 1/3 rd depth in compacted soil. Fine-tune exact placement and orientation per Owner s Representative prior to embedment. D. Blue fines: 1. Prepare subgrade to remove weeds and extraneous matter. 2. Compact subgrade to 95% relative density. 3. Apply pre-emergent soil sterilizer per manufacturer recommendations. 4. Install and compact crushed aggregate base rock to a 95% relative density. 5. Mix Blue Fines with clean water to an oatmeal consistency so that it is spreadable, but not muddy. 6. Spread wetted Blue Fines in 3 to 4 thickness as indicated on plans and/or details. 7. Compact to 90% relative density after grading and wetting final lift. 8. Finish Blue Fines to a smooth, uniform plane, flush with adjacent finish grade elevations and fine mist spraying surface for compaction. E. Metal Edging: 1. Layout perimeter edging as shown on drawing with smooth, continuous transitions horizontally and vertically. 2. Where landscape edging contacts adjacent paved surface, top of edging shall terminate flush with top of adjacent paving material. 3. Top of landscape edging shall be installed ½ above finish grade in turf areas, 1 above finish grade in shrub planting areas and flush with surface of decomposed granite fines and rock or gravel paving materials. 4. Install per manufacturer recommendations using matching manufacturer stakes and accessories. F. Mulch, Red Pro-Chip: 1. Prepare subgrade to remove weeds and extraneous matter. 2. Fine grade smooth. 3. Apply pre-emergent soil sterilizer per manufacturer recommendations. 4. Spread mulch to uniform, specified depth and smooth surface.
