SECTION 08710 - DOOR HARDWARE 1.1 SUMMARY A. Door hardware required for swinging doors. No pocket or folding doors permitted at U of R. 1.2 SUBMITTALS A. Hardware Schedule: To be coordinated with doors, frames and related work to ensure proper size, thickness, hand, function and finish of door hardware. B. Product Data: Manufacturers technical product data for each type of door hardware, installation instructions, maintenance of operating parts and finish, and other information necessary to show compliance with requirements. 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Standard: ANSI/BHMA. B. Provide door hardware for fire rated openings that complies with NFPA 80 and requirements of authorities having jurisdiction. Provide only items that are listed and are identical to products tested by UL for types and sizes of doors required and complies with requirements of door and frame labels. 1.4 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS A. All hardware to be through bolted (door closers, panic devices, push/pulls, etc.). B. Salvaged hardware including cylinders turned over to Facilities Operations. C. All out swinging doors to have pin hinges. 1.5 PACKING AND SHIPPING A. Tag each item or package with door number it pertains to. 1.6 FINISHES 1. Satin Bronze US10 (ANSI/BHMA 612) for general hardware on River Campus, however some buildings will be US26D or US26. 2. Brushed Chrome US26D (ANSI/BHMA 626) for toilet, kitchen and service areas on River Campus. 3. Brushed Chrome US26D (ANSI/BHMA 626) for all applications at Medical Center. 4. Prime finish hinges at all exterior doors unless noted otherwise. 2.1 PRODUCTS A. Product designation and the name of one manufacturer are listed for purpose of establishing minimum requirements. Provide either specified product or equal product of one of other acceptable manufacturers listed. Products of other manufacturers are not permitted, unless specified otherwise. B. Hinges 1. Approved manufacturers: Hager, Stanley, Lawrence, McKinney. 2. Hager: a. BB1279 4 ½ x 4 ½ at interior doors up to and including 3-4 wide b. BB1279 5 x 4 ½ at interior doors over 3-4 wide. c. BB1260 swing clear hinges at all cross-corridor and storage area applications where frame detail permits. d. BB1168 hinges to be provided where heavy weight hinges are to be provided (two pair per leaf). e. BB1256 spring hinges. (Not to be used on fire rated door assemblies.) C. Pivots 1. Approved Manufacturer: Rixson D. Locks, locksets, latch sets and dead bolts 1. Approved Manufacturers: a. Medical Center: Corbin/Russwin ML 2000 series LWA trim, ML2000 Series LWA 626 style handle, LC (NO SUBSTITUTION). b. River Campus and Residence Halls: Corbin/Russwin ML2000 series LWA trim (or match existing lever trim) (NO SUBSTITUTION). c. Off Campus Properties: Corbin/Russwin, or Schlage to match existing in building. d. All partition doors (furniture systems), non-mortised applications: cylindrical locks Corbin/ Russwin CL3600 NZD- 626 (NO SUBSTITUTION). e. Gates and fencing: compatible with UR key system. 2. Special Requirements: a. All locksets provided with curved lip strike. b. All strikes to be provided with wrought strike box. c. Lock Cylinders and Keys: furnished by General Contractor and installed by Facilities Operations. Contact Facilities Operations for spec. Cylinder zero bited and 4 blanks to be provided. Cylinders installed by Facilities Operations. d. Construction cylinders and keys provided by Facilities Operations. e. No locks/cylinders to be installed by contractor that are outside UR key system. f. Door locksets are to be prepared by the General Contractor to receive lock/cylinders. E. Key control system 1. Key biting and master keying schedule to be determined by Facilities Operations. F. Exit (panic) devices 1. With approval by MC Lockshop supervisor provide Approved Manufacturers and Model at Medical Center: Von Duprin 99/98 series, Precision, Corbin/Russwin. 2. Approved Manufacturer and Model at River Campus: Von Duprin 33, 99, seriesand Impact Devices, are acceptable where appropriate. (NO SUBSTITUTES). 3. Applications: a. Fire rated cross-corridor HM double doors: Surface vertical rod less bottom rod, include fire bolt. b. All other double doors at Medical Center: Concealed vertical rods where possible, if not, surface vertical rods less bottom rod and with fire bolt are permissible. Where security is an issue, concealed top and bottom rods are required. c. All other double doors at River Campus: Surface vertical rod. d. Single doors: rim or mortise. 4. U. Thresholds. Set in full bed of sealant and anchored per detail/spec (provide). V. Key Removable Mullions 1. Approved Manufacturer: Von Duprin, Precision. W. Punch locks. ILCO Unican 8100 series mortise lock for Medical Center. 2.2 ACCESS CONTROL DOOR TYPES AND HARDWARE A. Install only if done with card reader and electronic hardware. Do not install hardware only for future reader. B. Door Types 1. Access control may be installed on most door types, but must follow the design specifications per drawings. Single, double (with or without center mullion), single doors with an inactive leaf must include some means of securing and/or monitoring the inactive leaf. Electric strikes are to be installed per design with a monitoring contact included as an integral part of the strike assembly (unless otherwise specified). See door strike specifications below. Magnetic locks may be used on doors where an electric strike is not applicable. Any door installed with a magnetic lock must be wired to the appropriate area fire alarm system to release the magnetic lock upon a fire alarm unless otherwise specified. C. Lock Set Types 1. Single door hardware is to include a storeroom lock set. The storeroom set provides: a. Latch bolt by grip inside or by key outside. b. Outside grip always rigid. c. Inside grip always free. D. Electric Door Strikes 1. See specifications for 12 volt DC and 24-volt DC electric door strikes below. E. Magnetic Locks 1. Magnetic locks shall be dual voltage coils 12/24 vdc, fail safe and meet ANSI/BHMA A156 23-1992 or latest classification criteria including a minimum holding force of 1000 LBS. Locks used on labeled fire door assemblies shall be listed or labeled by a nationally recognized independent testing laboratory. Magnetic locks shall include a built in, concealed SPDT door status monitor switch to indicate door status at a remote location. Magnetic locks are to be used as specified, typically on double doors or application specific. Fire alarm interface must be connected per all code requirements. F. Electrified Lock Set Option 1. Corbin/Russwin electrified lockset. G. Request To Exit Sensors (REX) 1. A request to exit motion sensor is to be installed on the secure side of a card reader door unless otherwise specified. The motion sensor is to be located above the door, on the wall or at the ceiling to provide for coverage at the door. The motion sensor is used to provide a signal, masking a forced door condition when exiting the area. Section 08710 Door Hardware Page 4 of 5

H. ADA Requirements 1. The card reader may be mounted such that the highest operable part is 54 AFF if the device can be reached by someone in a wheelchair with a side approach (i.e. parallel to the wall with no obstructions). If the device is located in a nook or above a counter and a wheelchair can only approach head on (i.e. feet toward the wall) then the device cannot be mounted any higher than 48 AFF. In most cases, especially in corridors, a side approach is available and 54 is allowed. These rules are explained in 4.2.5 and 4.2.6 of the ADA regulations. 2. The access control system must be able to interface with a push pad control for handicap access where applicable. Automatic doors may be integrated with the access control system but must include all existing safeties without modification of function. Any automatic door(s) that use pushpads must be hard-wired to the door operator -not battery operated. I. Automatic Door Operators 1. Any new automatic door operators being installed shall conform to all applicable NFPA codes which include the operator de-activating during a fire alarm while providing a latched door condition and allowing free egress from the secured space. Any automatic door(s) that use push-pads must be hard-wired to the operator - not battery operated. J. Access Control System Door Components 1. Electric Strike Specifications: a. 12/24 VDC operating voltage. b. Continuous duty rated solenoid. c. Fail secure. d. Integral strike with monitoring or infrared monitoring. 2. Suggested Manufacturers: a. Folger Adams 600 series - Fail Secure12/24/VDC-with Monitoring contact, Continuous Duty, 3-hour fire rating-ul10b. b. VonDuprin- 6000 series Type A or C- Fail Secure 12/24/VDC-with Monitoring contact, Continuous Duty, 3 hour fire rating-ul10b. c. H.E.S. - 1003 series- Fail Secure 12/24/VDC-with ILM (Infrared Latch bolt Monitor), Continuous Duty, 3-hour fire rating-ul10b. K. Electromagnetic locks Specifications 1. 12/24VDC Fail Safe- must meet ANSI/BHMA A156 23-1992 or latest classification. Minimum holding force - 1200 Lb. holding force. 2. Device must include monitoring contact or equivalent means. 3. Suggested Manufacturers: a. Locknetics - 310, 380, or 390 Series 12/24 VDC Fail Safe. b. DynaLock Corp- 3000 Series, 12/24 VDC Fail Safe. 4. Note: Where application uses electromagnetic lock(s), an electric key switch override must be installed on reader side of door. a. Suggested Manufacturer - Locknetics 750 Series - Product 753-15 DPDT Momentary. L. Electronic Panic Device Power Supply 1. Where electronic panic bars are specified, the UL power supply supporting the electronic crash bar(s) shall include a fire alarm interface and battery back-up capabilities.
