Garden of Eternal Memories, Fawkner Vault style graves, Fawkner FAWKNER MEMORIAL PARK For over 100 years Fawkner Memorial Park has been serving the people of Victoria. The cemetery opened in 1906, with the first burial taking place on 10 December 1906 and, at 113 hectares, it is arguably one of Australia s largest cemeteries. Fawkner Memorial Park has a history of innovation and leadership in the Victorian cemetery industry including the introduction of Victoria s first modern purpose built crematorium in 1926 and the introduction of grand public mausoleums and ornate private mausoleums into Australia. FACILITIES Fawkner Memorial Park features three nondenominational chapels set amongst native vegetation and plantings. Refurbished in 2015, the Fawkner chapels are modern and contemporary spaces that provide a serene and tranquil option for families to hold a funeral or memorial service. Following a funeral or burial service, families may choose to relax and reminisce with family and friends over a cup of tea and light refreshments at our well-appointed and accessible Historic Tea Rooms, or at the Commemoration Function Centre across the road at Northern Memorial Park. Adjacent to the peaceful Alder Court Gardens, the GMCT chapels are wheelchair accessible and equipped with audio-visual systems and recording equipment. Ample parking is provided and the three chapels have variable seating capacities to accommodate services of various sizes. BURIAL AND MEMORIALISATION OPTIONS Depending on demand, some grave and niche types are available to pre-purchase, while others are only available to purchase when the time comes to arrange a funeral service. BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE Housed under glass in the Chapel of the Archangel Raphael, Holy Angels Mausoleum, is the leather-bound, gilt-edged Book of Remembrance. The fine parchment pages are inscribed by our Master Calligrapher, with memorials recorded on significant dates. The pages are turned daily. CHAPEL LAWN These new, premium lawn graves are located in a prime position adjacent to the Fawkner chapels and feature bronze plaques mounted on a granite desktop ledger. CHILDREN S AREAS Special areas of Fawkner Memorial Park have been set aside for the burial of young children, or the placement of their cremated remains. These areas are commemorated with a range of plaque and headstone memorials. CHINESE ANCESTRAL GARDEN The Chinese Ancestral Garden presents a unique opportunity to purchase individual, side-by-side graves, and to mark these graves with conjoined monumental masonry. Incorporating a memorial to the first Chinese- Australian pioneers, this section is much sought after. CREMATED REMAINS MEMORIALS Across Fawkner Memorial Park s substantial grounds, many options are available for the interment and commemoration of cremated human remains.
Chapel Complex, Fawkner Commemoration Centre Cafe Rose memorials Tree memorials Wall niches Garden niches Boulder Memorials Columbaria (Holy Family Mausoleum) GARDEN OF ETERNAL MEMORIES FAMILY ALCOVES Set in the tranquil and beautifully-designed Garden of Eternal Memories (also available at Edendale in Northern Memorial Park), these family earth graves can be marked with a half-headstone or a bronze plaque affixed to a feature boulder. Available for up to four interments. PUBLIC MAUSOLEUM All positions in the Holy Angels Mausoleum are now sold. GMCT about to commence construction on the fourth stage of the Holy Angels development. The new addition will reflect the existing building s landmark contemporary design, with completion expected in 2016/17. Expressions of interest are currently being accepted and off-the-plan sales are expected to commence in mid-2016. PRIVATE MAUSOLEA Fawkner Memorial Park has limited space exclusively set aside for the establishment of private mausolea. Working with your own architect, you have the opportunity to create a lasting memorial for your family over generations. VAULTS Located in close proximity to the Holy Angels Mausoleum, Vaults are fully concrete lined graves allowing families to memorialise their family members with ornate masonry and traditional ornamental features. NORTHERN MEMORIAL PARK As Melbourne s northern suburbs continued to expand, it became clear that Fawkner Memorial Park would not have sufficient land to accommodate the needs of the community into the future. Northern Memorial Park was established on land adjacent to Fawkner Memorial Park in order to meet the needs of the growing population. Set amongst beautifully landscaped gardens, Northern Memorial Park occupies a serene location along Merlynston Creek. A natural spring and lake are home to many varieties of water birds, creating a peaceful, natural environment for quiet reflection. Planning activities are underway to extend Northern Memorial Park s boundaries, expanding the park to a total of 94 hectares. Combined with Fawkner Memorial Park, this equates to more than 200 hectares of peaceful burial grounds to meet the needs of generations to come. FACILITIES Northern Memorial Park is serviced by Fawkner Memorial Park s non-denominational chapels, and also offers a range of facilities for visitors such as pergolas, rotundas and native gardens for moments of peaceful reflection. It also features the Commemoration Function Centre and Café, a complex that includes two spacious and well-appointed function rooms for catered wakes and commemoration services, and a public café with al-fresco dining. The Commemoration Function Centre offers a range of contemporary and traditional menu options to suit a variety of tastes, and the two function rooms can be combined to accommodate large services.

These lawn areas are decorated with sculptures reflective of childhood and youth. EDENDALE In a well-appointed lawn area adjacent to the natural brush and birdlife of Merlynston Creek, Edendale affords families an opportunity to create bespoke memorials for their loved ones in the form of a premium lawn headstone grave. Family plots are also available for up to five interments. LAWN PLAQUE GRAVES A plaque is a classic and timeless memorial, and these lawn graves allow families to cast their message in bronze. The plaque is placed at the head of the grave and, depending on the section, on an individual foundation, a concrete beam or a sloped ledger. turfed over to seamlessly create the appearance of a lawn headstone grave. MONUMENTAL GRAVES These graves are a traditional style of earth grave. The shared foundations allow each grave to support substantial masonry-work, often with granite or marble kerbing, ledger and headstone. Located next to the café, visitors to this area can enjoy a cup of coffee in the sunshine and fresh air with views across selected native plantings, meandering pathways and memorial boulders. HERITAGE GRAVES From time to time, unused graves in the most sought-after sections of Fawkner Memorial Park and Northern Memorial Park may become available for purchase. LAWN HEADSTONE GRAVES One of the most popular types of grave is a lawn grave with a headstone and inscription. Due to demand, this type of grave is currently unavailable.
