GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Jackson JUNIOR electrically heated instantaneous water boiler is designed to operate on a 240v, single phase, 50 Hz supply. It can be wall or bench mounted. Electric and water supplies enter the boiler through the rear of the appliance. The boiler is connected to the water supply by means of the ¾ BSP male connection. The supply can come direct from the mains or by means of a header tank. The boiler is fitted with a solenoid valve, suitable for connection to water supplies with a pressure of 0.2-1 0 BAR (3-140 p.s.i) and, therefore, any header tank should not be less than 2.5 metres (8 feet) above the boiler. It is necessary to fit the single check valve, supplied, in the supply directly before the boiler. A union stopcock should be fitted in such a manner that it will not be operated by unauthorised persons and as close to the boiler as possible for servicing purposes. IT MUST NEVER BE TURNED OFF WHEN THE BOILER IS IN USE. The boiler is supplied with a three Metre length of mains cable and has a moulded three pin plug fitted to the lead as standard. If the plug is not suitable for your socket outlet, it should be cut off and destroyed. The appliance should be connected to a suitable switched socket outlet located nearby. Users Instructions (cont.) Operation a) Ensure that the water and electricity supplies are connected and turned on. b) If the boiler has been used previously and then had the electrical supply turned off or the water is now cold, drain all the contents from the tank. This ensures that as fresh water is added and heated, all water drawn from the boiler is at the required temperature. This prevents waiting 35 minutes and guarantees the tank contents are at 98 C. c) Turn the boiler on by pressing the rocker switch. The red (power on) lamp in the switch will glow. d) If the boiler has not been used before, water will flow into the tank via the solenoid valve until the heater is covered. You are now at the same stage as if the tank had been drained. e) The heater element then switches on and boils the water in the tank (approx. 11minutes). When this has boiled, more water enters the tank and in turn this is boiled. This process is repeated until the boiler is full. The whole process takes approx. 35minutes. f) Water may be drawn from the boiler after the initial heating up time of 12minutes (only if the tank was drained before switching on, if not wait 35minutes). g) Turn the boiler off by pressing the rocker switch, the lamp will then go out. Daily Cleaning IMPORTANT: THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE SWITCHED OFF AT THE ISOLATING SWITCH. IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR SAFETY. Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a cloth moistened with hot water and a mild detergent. Rinse using a cloth moistened with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. DO NOT use abrasives or wire wool or clean the appliance using a steam or water jet. Proprietary plastic cleaning pads may be used with care for removing heavy deposits if necessary. Users Instructions (cont.) General Notes for Descaling: If hard water is used, it is essential that the boiler should be descaled at regular intervals, depending upon the hardness and usage of the boiler. As a general rule, complete descaling should take place every three months. Descaling is performed by dismantling the appliance and removing the scale by mechanical means. The use of chemical solvent is NOT recommended. The scale should be removed by gently tapping and then swilling the components with cold water. Utmost care should be taken to avoid damage when carrying out this operation. A coating of scale will lower the efficiency and shorten the life of the heating element if it is not removed. Note: - The formation of scale in boilers is a phenomenon outside the control of Viscount Catering Ltd occurring naturally in some areas of Britain and descaling is therefore outside the terms of our guarantee. WE RECOMMEND THAT ALL EQUIPMENT IS SERVICED AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR, BUT MAY BE AS FRQUENT AS 6 MONTHS OR LESS IF CONTORLS FAIL TO OPERATE FREELY. ALL WORK MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY A QUALIFIED SERVICE ENGINEER. SERVICE INTERVALS CAN BE AFFECTED BY SPILLAGE AND SHOULD BE ASSESSED EACH TIME THE EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN USED.
